XMediusFAX®— a powerful fax solution!

Sagemcom was instrumental in significantly reducing the cost of a 1,720 Multifunction Printer (MFP)fleet upgrade at one of the major electric power supply companies in the U.S. Thinking outside the box Xerox recommended Sagemcom’s XMediusFAX® on-premise fax server solution to significantly reduce costs and gain a win over Ricoh.

XMediusFAX

The Challenges:

• The customer – a major power supply corporation in the U.S. was challenged with meeting budget requirements and could not justify paying a premium for their MFP solution.

• Xerox was challenged to reduce cost on a 1,720 unit competitive knockout opportunity over Ricoh.

• Xerox was 10% higher in their RFP response compared to Ricoh.

The Solution:

• Xerox realized that they could eliminate all of the analog fax lines and desktop fax devices within the company by offering an XMediusFAX® FoIP fax server solution.

• The XMediusFAX® solution was combined with an Extensible Interface Platform (EIP) Connector that allowed the Xerox MFPs to become the on-ramp for all walk up faxing.

• XMediusFAX® offered the highest level of security in the fax server market.

The Results:

• The elimination of over 1,720 analog fax lines achieved over $4 million in IT savings over time. These future savings far outweighed the premium of 10% for the Xerox MFP solution.

• XMediusFAX®’s commitment to security features within its solution helped the customer avoid costly fines associated with non-compliance to strict regulatory

compliance requirements in their industry.

Customer Profile

Headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, the customer is one of the largest electric utility supply in the U.S., serving over 5 million customers in 11 states.

The company owns:

• Nearly 38,000 megawatts of generating capacity.

• More than 40,000-miles of electricity transmission

network - the largest in the nation.

• More 765 kilovolt extra-high voltage transmission lines

than all other U.S. transmission systems combined.

The Challenge

In today’s competitive business environment and challenging economy, businesses must meet budget requirements in order to stay competitive and achieve company objectives. The customer was faced with this challenge as they decided to upgrade their existing 1,720 Ricoh MFP fleet.

Xerox was the preferred choice but it was up against internal cost cutting measures in the organization that would not allow the customer to pay a premium for Xerox MFPs.

After Xerox presented its best and final price to the customer, they were still 10% higher than Ricoh when only comparing the cost of the MFPs .FOR R

EFERENCE ONLY

Benefits at a glance

• Reduced Total Cost of Ownership

• Integration with the Xerox MFP’s with our EIP connector offering full faxing functionality at the MFP device

• Faxing from the desktop was also enabled increasing productivity of sending faxes

• Built-in security features helped with regulatory compliance

Solution specifications

Xerox products supported:

• A wide variety of EIP compatible Xerox MFPs

Software:

• XMediusFAX® on-premise solution

• XMediusFAX® Xerox EIP connector

Applications supported:

• Microsoft Office 2013/2010/2007/2003/ XP

• OpenOffice.org 4.1/3.0/2.0

• XMediusFAX SendFAX client for advanced fax composition

• Any SMTP mail client (i.e. Outlook Express, Eudora and Mozilla)

• Microsoft Office Internet Fax Service Integration

The Solution

The Xerox analyst who had recently learned about Sagemcom’s XMediusFAX® on-premise software solution came up with the idea of replacing all of the desktop fax devices and eliminating all of the analog fax lines at the customer’s location. The customer had already made an investment in a VoIP phone system and it made perfect sense to leverage that investment by implementing a Fax over IP (FoIP) solution. XMediusFAX® solution would allow Xerox to reduce their equipment cost by taking out 1,720 unneeded fax kits.

The customer was excited to see the powerful additional features that were enabled on the Xerox MFPs by adding Sagemcom’s XMediusFAX® Xerox EIP connector to each of the devices.

The Results

The implementation of the XMediusFAX® on-premise fax server solution was just the right fit for the power supply company. With the elimination of 1,720 fax kit accessories, Xerox was able to cut out approximately $1M in costs from their solution and pass those savings along to the customer.

The truly remarkable part of the total solution offering from Xerox was that the additional cost savings to the customer from an IT perspective exceeded $4M over the 5 year contract. Xerox was able to far exceed the 10% MFP premium they held by thinking outside the box and bringing this valuable business idea to the customer’s attention.

Although initially a fax server solution was not considered but once the customer saw the potential savings they added this requirement to the RFP. The result was a win-win for both Xerox and the power supply company.

New Product Showcase

SM Series of Multifunctional Transport Antennas:Sinclair introduces its new SM300 and SM600 series of transport antennas specifically designed to address the need for compact, low profile, broadband antennas. These multifunctional antennas are single port which makes them easy to install. Given their broadband capabilities these models can serve multiple discrete RF systems when used with cross band couplers. SM300 covers 350-2500 MHz while the SM600 covers frequency bands between 746-2500 MHz. Designed to withstand constant vibration and harsh environments without compromising performance, these rugged antennas are ideal for rooftop mounting.

SC412 Rugged PIM Rated Omni Antenna: Sinclair’s new heavy duty SC412 is a broadband, high gain, collinear, omni-directional antenna designed to compete with the “PenetratorTM”. This low PIM (passive intermodulation) certified antenna covers the full frequency range of 746-869 MHz, with 11.5 dBd gain and handling 500 watts of power. It offers an impressive wind velocity rating of 170 mph. Available with 2,4,6,8 and 10 degrees of electrical tilt, this rugged antenna is ideal for critical applications. For optimal performance a top cross bracing kit is recommended (model SMK-345-A7) for side mounted installation. A null fill version of this versatile antenna is also available for close-in coverage enhancement.

SP304 UHF Panel Antenna:

Sinclair’s SP304 series, UHF panel antennas offer excellent reliability and durability for mission critical applications. These low passive intermodulation (PIM) antennas are available in vertical, cross and circular polarization. The polarized wideband version (SP304V-SWB, vertically polarized) is broadband and covers the full range of 380-512 MHz with other models in the series covering the band in two frequency splits: 380-450 MHz and 450-512 MHz.

Various electrical downtilt (0,10,15) and beamwidth (65/70, 90 and 120) options are available. The dual port, cross polarized version (SP304X) can be used for polarization diversity to reduce multiple path effect. This versatile dual band antenna can also be used as one Tx antenna and one Rx antenna to save tower space.

Case StudySinclair’s Omni Antennas Combat Harsh Desert Sinclair comes through for the U.S. Army.

The U.S. Army soldiers often operate in dangerous & difficult-to-reach locations. As a result secure and reliable communication is critical, particularly when it comes to transmitting information over areas like the Iraqi desert.

In order to have smooth operations the communication towers need to be equipped with strong and rugged antennas that are able to withstand strong winds. When their existing antennas proved to be unreliable, the U.S Army contacted Procom to find a better alternative. Procom in turn contacted Sinclair, its trusted partner for a reliable & cost effective solution.

The Challenge: U.S Army required a rugged and reliable antenna tested to withstand winds of 120 MPH with 6 dBd gain and a frequency range of 406 to 420 MHz.

The Solution: The experts at Sinclair suggested the SC329 low PIM (Passive Intermodulation), UHF collinear Omni-directional base station antenna.

This rugged antenna offered a wind velocity rating of 140 MPH, which exceeded the customer’s requirements. It also met other product specifications including a nominal gain of 6 dBd and a frequency range of 406 to 420 MHz.Designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, this durable antenna was the ideal choice for combating the desert winds without compromising performance.

“Sinclair saved the project for us with a quick and cost efficient solution that we are completely satisfied with”Gabe Najjar - President ProCom Corporation.

About Procom: Procom is a full service, wireless solutions provider located in Annapolis Junction, Maryland. The company is an independent value added reseller that works with several manufacturers to combine a wide variety of products and technologies to bring its customers industry leading solutions. Sinclair has had a successful five year partnership with Procom.

Tech Bulletin

Null Fill Optimization: A Step Towards Uninterrupted Communication.

At Sinclair we strive to meet the market’s demands through continuous innovation. And when a major OEM needed to resolve signal issues for their consumers in the downtown core of a major US city we were keen to offer a solution. Generally, antennas for mobile communications are placed in high altitudes where they are positioned to cover large areas. However due to the presence of null zones closer to the antenna, mobile users are often unable to receive reliable signals when they are in these null zones. Our engineers utilized “Null Fill Optimization” technology in designing antennas to overcome the problem of null zones. As a result the SC412 (E5608) and SC479 (E5608) Null Fill optimized omni antennas were introduced.

These rugged antennas with Null Fill capabilities provide close-in coverage enhancement to mitigate lost signals in null zones.

So what is Null Fill and why does it matter?A null is an area or vector in an antenna's radiation pattern where the signal is almost entirely cancelled out. Null Fill optimization enhances signal reception in a null field by redirecting a small amount of energy from the main lobe to the ground closest to the antenna. Null Fill optimization thus is the ideal solution for coverage needs in areas with null zones. Sinclair offers a number of antennas with various levels of Null Fill optimization including the new 746-869 MHz omni antennas - SC412 (E5608), 11.5 dBd gain and SC479 (E5608), 9 dBd gain, both with 25% Null Fill.

Importance of Side Mount Kits

Side Mount Kits are usually recommended for larger antenna models to improve performance and durability.

Side mount kits are usually recommended for larger antenna models to improve performance and durability.Side Mounting (vs top mounting) is preferred for larger antenna models because it makes mounting and bracing of these antennas easier and more stable. It also promotes greater use of tower space and offers better lightening protection vs. top mounting. For larger antennas, a side mount kit is recommended and in some cases required, for more information please contact Sinclair’s customer service team at: (800) 263-3275 or download the Side Mounting Kit Guide.

It should be noted that an omni antenna can be detuned if it is side mounted too close to the tower. In addition, the antenna pattern may be distorted by the tower itself, also known as “tower shading”. The antenna pattern distortion is determined by many factors including the tower size and structure, antenna type, antenna position on the tower, antenna operating frequency and the spacing between the antenna and the tower. Generally, it is preferred to install the antenna further away from the tower to reduce the distortion

caused from tower shading. However, the further the antenna is installed from the tower, the greater the wind loading and antenna vibration. Hence there is a trade-off between minimizing tower shading and antenna stability. This trade-off can be mitigated by using Sinclair’s side mounting kits which enhance bracing and stability of the antenna.

SC488-SF6LDF and SC488-SF9LDF Antennas

Sinclair’s lightweight collinear antenna series-SC488 is now available in 700 MHz low-band (694-746 MHz) for LTE 700 MHz applications and 700 MHz high-band (746-806 MHz) for public safety applications. These antennas are equipped with a 2 1/4" diameter UV protected fiberglass radome and offer 10 dBd gain with various electrical downtilt options. With the zero degree downtilt option, the antenna can be conveniently mounted either upright or inverted as per the customer’s need. Side mount kits are also available for these antennas. For more details please contact customer service at: 1-800-263-3275.

FPxxxRxxx Series Sinclair’s new Low Cost Lumped Element Compact Filters

Sinclair is now offering lumped element filters for applications requiring high isolation to eliminate interference. These filters provide superior performance for channel isolation between close frequency bands when:

• Two radio systems are co-located and are operating in close frequency bands

• One radio system is operating in presence of external RF interference sources in close frequency

Featuring extremely low insertion loss and compact packaging (4.83”x1.45”x0.96” aluminum housing), these units can handle up to 150W transmit power when mounted on a metal panel or bracket and provide 70 dB minimum rejection. Additional 70 dB isolation can be achieved between 160 MHz voice and 220 MHz data systems by installing aFP161R220 and a FP220R161 unit with the corresponding radio system. This saves tower or locomotive rooftop space and prevents the 220 MHz data system from de-sensitizing.The FP220R098 protects the 220 MHz data system from existing FM broadcasting channels, while the FP161R098 reduces interference from FM channels for 160 MHz voice radios. Both can be used for base station or mobile applications. For more information please contact customer service at: 1-800-263-3275.

Sinclair wins at Montreal Grand Prix!

Sinclair’s Quebec-based distributor - Production Electronique was chosen to supply antennas and filtering systems for the 2011 Montreal Grand Prix. Mr. Marcel Lacasse owner of Production Electronique stated that “One of our major dealers, METROCOM a division of Groupe CLR, successfully lead this project. Richard Corbeil, Sylvain Bigras and their technical team really appreciated our help. They also appreciated the high quality products and quick delivery from Sinclair Technologies.” He further added “In the past, several antennas were necessary to cover the entire site but now with Sinclair’s SD314 series only one antenna was able to cover the entire site. Twelve C3037 systems were also used and worked perfectly even with numerous frequencies in the vicinity. The high quality Sinclair filtering system prevented any interference.”

XMediusFAX® on-premise solution meets productivity challenges!

XMediusFAX® automates and simplifies workflow for a global chemical supply company.

XMediusFAX

The Challenges:

One of the biggest chemical companies in the world required a reliable and compliant fax solution that could overcome the following challenges:

• Security and Compliance — Traditional fax devices were a security and audit risk with faxes being out in the open in hard copy format.

• Employee Productivity — Employees were spending too much time on tasks such as walk up faxing.

• Cost — Analog fax lines were a monthly recurring cost that needed to be lowered.

• Mobility — With the increasing mobility and global nature of the company, tools needed to be put in place to address fax workflow for mobile workers.

• Sustainability — Needed to eliminate the nearly 20% of printed faxes that were coming in as junk faxes.

The Solution:

• XMediusFAX®’s on-premise solution was recommended as the best option to meet of the workflow challenges faced by the company.

• With the help of XMediusFAX® Xerox Extensible Interface Platform (EIP) connector the fax solution was seamlessly integrated with the company’s new Xerox MFP fleet.

A 24x7 Fax Solution for a 24x7 Pharmacy

XMediusCLOUD fax automates and simplifies workflow for a fax reliant 24x7 pharmacy. faxCLOUD

XMedius

The Challenges:

• Missed faxes due to malfunction of heavily used fax machines were a huge concern, especially when dealing with critical prescription information. There was also risk of litigation due to missed faxes.

• Every fax had a critical turnaround expectation for the 24/7 pharmacy routinely dealing with elderly patients.

• Long wait times to receive and process faxes, severely hampered employee productivity.

• The use of legacy fax machines and analog fax lines added to operational costs.

• The new solution was required to help with HIPAA compliance and audit trailing.

• Future regulations will require all faxes to be received electronically rather than in printed format.

The Solution:

• XMediusCLOUD fax was chosen because it can enable secure, traceable and timely delivery of important information 24/7.

• With secure paperless faxing via XMediusCLOUD

fax, the pharmacy saved on Cap-EX expenses, improved productivity and met HIPAA compliance requirements.

• The cloud fax solution seamlessly integrated with Xerox MFP’s with the XMediusCLOUD fax-Xerox EIP connector.

Customer Profile

As a busy 24x7 specialty pharmacy, the customer provides an important service to hospices, institutions, nursing homes, residential group homes and other assisted living facilities. The pharmacy specializes in veterinary compounding, prescription compounding, pain management and patient counseling.

A member of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), the pharmacy is covered by the medical information privacy provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and its regulations.

The Challenge

The customer was receiving over 15,000 incoming faxes from a variety of long term care facilities around the country. These faxes in many cases required quick turnaround with no room for errors or misplacement.

The pharmacy was challenged with having just one dedicated fax machine receiving the majority of these faxes. The machine had inherent flaws due to the analog nature of the fax component being plugged into one analog fax line dedicated to that device. As a result the employees were experiencing significant delays and pains when the fax machine would run out of paper or toner.

Being a 24/7 business, the pharmacy also had concerns about the fax machine failing or jamming up in the middle of the night with no other recourse to receive life critical prescription requests. These challenges resulted in a fax backlog that severely affected business operations.

XMedius

This caused employee dissatisfaction and frustration as clients would have to call and follow up on orders that were now delayed. Customer satisfaction which is top priority at the pharmacy was suffering because of the fax machine failure due to increased volume.

They were also challenged with maintaining strict security and compliance with HIPAA. Plus the pharmacy wanted to be well prepared for future regulations and guidelines that would require all faxes be handled in an electronic (non-print) fashion for this industry.
