ABOUT

After finishing his academic studies in 2006, started in the same year his studies in Architecture in Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Lusíada do Porto.

In 2010, during Erasmus Programme, he attended the Bauhaus-Universitãt Weimar in Germany for a year.

Post-Erasmus, he retuned to Universidade Lusíada do Porto to finish his studies of the MSc in Architecture. Completed the MSc with his Thesis with the theme “Documenta Invaders – The Modularity And The Temporariness of the Architecture of Exhibition”, whose theme was based on a competition for the Documenta Halle in Germany, with 17 as final grade.

University competitions:• “Bridging the Gap”, bridge construction as a link between architecture and engineering - Weimar Bauhaus-Universität, Alemanhaw.Co-authored by Rui Lima, distinguished by the faculty.

• Project competition “Documenta Halle”, art gallery / temporary exhibition - Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Germany.Theme End of course thesis.

• Competition OBA ideas, Observatory Aurora Borealis - Finland.Co-authored by Vítor Oliveira and Christian Esteves, 50 best of 524 proposals.

At the moment is with the IEFP Internship as Project Designer completed at Atelier d’Arquitectura J. A. Lopes da Costa, with over one year of professional experience.

SOBRE

Após conclusão dos estudos do secundário em 2006, iniciou nesse mesmo ano os estudos em Arquitectura na Faculdade de Arquitectura da Universidade Lusíada do Porto.

Em 2010, ao abrigo do Programa Erasmus, frequentou a Bauhaus-Universitãt Weimar na Alemanha durante um ano.

Pós Erasmus, regressou para a Universidade Lusíada do Porto onde finalizou os estudos do Mestrado Integrado em Arquitectura. Finalizou o Mestrado com a Dissertação “Documenta Invaders - A Modularidade e o Temporário na Arquitectura de Exposição”, cujo tema foi baseado num concurso para a Documenta Halle, na Alemanha, com nota final de 17 valores.

CENTRO PAROQUIAL FURADOURO, PORTUGALFURADOURO PARISH CENTRE - FURADOURO, PORTUGAL

Preliminary draft held at the Atelier d’Arquitectura J. A. Lopes da Costa. This project consists of a parish centre for Furadouro Ovar, consisting of four classrooms for catechism, which can be turned into multi-purpose hall. It also contains a small office with meeting space, as well as a small bar and sanitary support.

Ante-projecto realizado no Atelier d’Arquitectura J. A. Lopes da Costa. Este projecto consiste num centro paroquial para o Furadouro em Ovar, constituído por quatro salas de aula, para catequese, que se podem transformar numa sala polivalente. Contém também um pequeno escritório com espaço para reuniões, bem como um pequeno bar e sanitários de apoio.

Rehabilitation project of a “Portuense” residential building from the 21st century in downtown of Oporto, Portugal.The 3-storey building consists of a rehabilitation for multifamily housing with a 1 bedroom apartment on the ground floor, a T0 and T0 Evolutionary on the 1st floor and 2 Bedrooms on the 2nd floor. Minimum space with maximum utilization of areas, thus defines this project, along with a little touch of assigning a distinct colour for each fraction in the doorway, hallway and kitchen modules.

XIX na baixa da cidade do Porto.O prédio de 3 andares consiste numa reabilitação para habitação plurifamiliar com um apartamento T1 no rés-do-chão, um T0 e T0 Evolutivo no 1º andar e um T2 Duplex no 2º andar. Espaços mínimos com aproveitamento máximo das áreas, assim se define este projecto, juntamente com um pequeno toque de atribuir uma cor distinta para cada fracção, na porta de entrada, corredor e módulos de cozinha.

Renovation of the Spa zone1, Swimming Pool2 and Changing Rooms3, as well as Bathrooms4 of the rooms at Hotel Plaza.Any intervention was made so as to affect the minimum spaces the hotel, giving a new and improved image, creating more cozy and contemporary environments. The Plaza Hotel is located in France, more precisely in the Futuroscope theme park in Poitiers.

Remodelação da zona de Spa(1), Piscina interior(2) e Balneários(3), bem como as Casas de Banho(4) dos quartos do Hotel Plaza.Toda a intervenção foi feita de forma a afectar o mínimo os espaços do hotel, dando uma nova e melhorada imagem, criando ambientes mais acolhedores e contemporâneos. O Hotel Plaza encontra-se em França, mais precisamente no parque temático Futuroscope, em Poitiers.

Remodelling project of a residential building in the seaside area of Furadouro in Ovar, Portugal.Remodelling the 2nd floor and ceiling, turning the 50’s three bedroom apartment in a large modern one bedroom apartment, reshaping completely the terrace as a hall/multi-purpose area, with a view to the sea and main street.

Projecto de remodelação de um prédio de habitação na zona balnear do Furadouro, em Ovar.Remodelação 2º piso e recuado, transformando o apartamento de tipologia T3 dos anos 50 para um T1 amplo e moderno, reformulando por completo a cobertura num salão / zona polivalente de estar, com vista para o mar e avenida principal.

Model study of an intervention for Lodge in Chizavane, Mozambique. Topographical study, location of the Lodge according to the program, with proposed minor changes in landfills and earthworks. Contour studied with topographic data, so that the intervention respected the “Genius Loci” (“spirit of place”).

Maqueta de estudo de uma intervenção para um Lodge em Chizavane, Moçambique. Estudo topográfico, localização do Lodge de acordo com o programa, com propostas de pequenas alterações em aterros e desaterros. Curvas de nível estudadas com os dados topográficos, de forma que a intervenção respeitasse o “Genius Loci”(“espírito do lugar”).

O empilhamento de pisos com diferentes tamanhos, com diferentes funções em cada um, e todo o edifício - fachada, lajes, paredes - feitas de betão branco, dá o carácter construção de um templo, um lugar de culto, que reestabelece ligações antigas entre o homem e seu planeta. A forma, a fachada do edifício assemelha-se a uma casa simples, comum, mas ao ser feito em apenas num material, betão, dá a ideia de um refúgio, mas ao mesmo tempo, a ideia de um monumento. O tamanho do edifício, dá uma leitura de referência no contexto da floresta infinita, portanto, criando uma dualidade de formas / estados puros entre o homem e a natureza. O núcleo central, que mede 7x7 metros, contém diferentes elevadores, escadas de emergência, condutas de infra-estrutura e espaços serviços. Projecto de concurso com a co-autoria de dois colegas, Vítor Oliveira e Christian Esteves.

The stacking of floors with different sizes, with different functions in each, and all the building – facade, slabs, walls — made out of white concrete, gives the building character of a temple, a place for cult, a character that re-establishes ancient connections between man and his planet. In shape, the facade of the building resembles a simple, ordinary house, but being made out of only one material, concrete, gives the idea of a refuge, but at same time, the idea of a monument. The size of the building, gives a reading of landmark in the infinite forest context, therefore creating a duality of forms/pure states between man and nature. The central nucleus, which measures 7x7 meters, contains different elevators, emergency staircases, ducts for infrastructure and service spaces. Project competition with co- authorship of two colleagues, Vítor Oliveira and Christian Esteves.

Baseado na pixelização do jogo “Space Invaders”, o projecto cria um conceito de um sistema modular para gerar o conteúdo programático, começando com um cubo de 6m e explorando a sua forma de “jogar” com o programa de tal tão pequeno espaço. O seu conceito é híbrido, “mutante”, multi-funcional, com a mudança e manipulação de si. De uma construção e estrutura simples de 6x6x6m, cria dois andares cada um com 36m2, com a aplicação de materiais pré-fabricados, torna-se ideal para a construção de baixo custo, fácil de montar e desmontar para reutilizar, sendo este leve para permitir mover de um sitio para o outro, alterando a ordem. Orientação pragmática / clássica, seguindo a primeira grelha, (baseada na orientação do jardim, semelhante ao jardim clássico francês do Séc. XVIII), “Mutável” para uma forma orgânica, permitindo a mover-se os cubos para criar um “movimento orgânico “, manipulado por eles mesmos.

Based on the pixelized image from the game “Space Invaders”, the project creates an idea of using a modular system to create the program, starting with a cube of 6m and explore the cube in a way to “play”with the program in such as small space. The concept of the cube: hybrid cube, “mutated”, multi- functional, with changing and manipulation of itself. With a construction simple of 6x6x6m, creating 2 floors, each one with 36 square meters, with a simple structure, applying materials pre-made, ideal for low cost construction, easy to mount and dismount to re-use, light cube to allow moving from place to place, changing order. 1St orientation: pragmatic/classic, following the first grid (based on the garden, similar to the French classic garden with strict grid from the 18 cent.), “Mutated” to an organic shape, allowing to move the cubes, creating an “organic” movement, manipulated by themselves.

This project is based in the same programme of Documenta Halle exhibition, but in a purpose to explore software’s freely for an workshop:The algorithm for generating the structure is really simple: Draw a generated tree with parametric codes; Create the tree for each corner; Change the generative way, creating randomness of the lines; Choosing the right image that represent the title “Heavy Lightness”. For the 2nd Task, it’s related to the first image from the 1st Task, created by the software Processing and shaped in a 3D way, creating two layers of holes, connecting them, first with the software Modo, and then shaped and rendered in Rhino, to reach the intention of the catch-phrase “Heavy Lightness” in a 3D sculptural/project way. The 3rd Task was with the idea of picking the sculpture shape and creating in an architecture way, developing the interior, associated to the organic shape as the building have. The 4th and last Task, is with the intention of choosing a picture to create the poetic image, giving the interpretation for the last render, picking a colourful Lomography picture.

Este projecto baseia-se no mesmo programa da exposição Documenta Halle, mas com a intenção de explorar softwares de forma livre para um workshop:O algoritmo para gerar a estrutura da 1ª Tarefa é realmente simples: Desenhar uma árvore gerada com códigos paramétricos; Criar a árvore para cada canto; Alterar o modo como generativa, criando aleatoriedade das linhas; Escolher a imagem certa que representar o título “Schwere Leichtigkeit” (“Leveza Pesada”). Para a 2ª Tarefa, que está relacionada com a primeira imagem da primeira tarefa, criado pelo software Processing e criado numa forma 3D, gerando duas camadas de buracos, conectando-os, primeiro com o software Modo, e, em seguida, trabalhado e renderizado no Rhino, de forma a alcançar a frase “Schwere Leichtigkeit” numa escultura 3D / projecto. A 3ª Tarefa era com a ideia de escolher uma forma escultórica e criar um projecto de arquitectura, desenvolvendo o seu interior, associada à forma orgânica que o edifício detém. A 4ª e última Tarefa, é com a intenção de escolher uma imagem para criar a “imagem poética”, dando essa interpretação para o último render, onde foi escolhida uma foto Lomográfica colorida.

Construction of a bridge as a link between Architecture and Engineering. This project was intended use parametric design techniques in the design of a bridge. The study form reached a delicate balance between structure and function.Competition project with the co- authorship of the colleague Rui Lima.

Study project with the software Autodesk Ecotect Analysis. This software allows the comprehensive analysis of a project/building designed in BIM format, with the analysis in its insertion site. Based on geographic information and with the design of the project surrounding in 3D, it allows to study shadowing, ventilation, air flow, solar orientation, solar radiation, energy costs and even budget estimate of the work. With the program’s help, you can give the location with geographic coordinates, which can make analysis for only one day or it’s behaviour during the entire year.

Projecto de estudo com o software Autodesk Ecotect Analysis. Este software permite fazer a análise integral de um projecto/edifício concebido em formato BIM, com a análise no seu local de inserção. Com base na informação geográfica e com o desenho da envolvente em 3D junto do projecto, permite fazer o estudo de sombreamento, ventilação, circulação de ar, orientação solar, radiação solar, custos energéticos e até mesmo estimativa orçamental da obra. Com a ajuda do programa, é possível dar as localização com coordenadas geográficas, podendo fazer análises desde apenas um só dia ou o seu comportamento durante um ano inteiro.

The urbanism project “Vale do Ourto”, is located in Lordelo do Ouro parish, in front to Douro River, in a area with extensive views to Foz and Gaia.It aims to intervene in expectant spaces, restructuring of major routes and roads in order to create a more structured and organized urban structure, correcting the connection points of two distinct realities of the area. The purpose of rehabilitating Lordelo do Ouro area, comes from its excellent location in the city of Porto, thus giving more emphasis to its economic and urban value.In continuation of urbanism project, is followed by a larger scale project to create a public space with the project “Secondary School “Parque Escolar””.

O projecto de urbanismo “Vale do Ouro”, situa-se na freguesia de Lordelo do Ouro, frente ao rio Douro, numa zona com vistas amplas para a Foz e para Gaia.Tem como objectivo intervir nos espaços expectantes, com reestruturação de eixos e vias principais, de forma a criar uma estrutura urbana mais estruturada e organizada, corrigindo os pontos de ligação de duas realidades distintas da zona. O propósito de reabilitar a zona de Lordelo do Ouro, advém da sua localização de excelência na cidade do Porto, dando assim mais ênfase ao seu valor económico e urbano.Na continuação do projecto de urbanismo, segue-se um projecto de escala ampliada para a criação de um equipamento, com o projecto de “Escola Secundária “Parque Escolar””.

The concept of deployment, part of the place assumption of the plan and conditions of the program. It is marked by a large parallel volume Marginal, which develops on 2 floors, accenting the street ahead and the building’s relationship with the river and the public space to the south, while helping to solve the quota of transition due north , functioning as the land containment. About come to rest perpendicularly other bodies that animate volumetrically by taking advantage of both the form either of the sloping ground, with which it will directly relate. It is the parallel volume to the river that houses the non-teaching spaces, distributing and harbouring large part of the program, this volume seeks to show its most public aspect, relating to the theme of Secondary School, the quest for fluidity and objectivity of design the same, and its entrance marked by two important volumes, not only for its composition but also the program that contains the administrative area and secretariat, the East and the Library, the West. These spaces connect the call Learning Street, which works with structural axis of the whole building and that this program of great importance, since the objective is to create an informal space, community, which at the same time you can study. Throughout this volume, there are moments of alternate experiences for the composition of its interior with multi-purpose spaces and bar area, connected by the Learning Street and separated by courtyards for light input, creating leisure time that mark and punctuate this space.

O conceito de implantação, parte do pressuposto do lugar, das condicionantes do plano e do programa. É marcado por um grande volume paralelo à Marginal, que se desenvolve em 2 pisos, acentuando a frente de rua e a relação do edifício com o rio e o espaço público a Sul, ajudando ao mesmo tempo a resolver a transição de cota, para norte, funcionando como contenção do terreno. Sobre ele vêm pousar perpendicularmente outros corpos, que o animam volumetricamente, tirando partido, quer da forma, quer do desnível do terreno, com o qual se vão relacionando directamente. É no volume paralelo ao rio que se situam os espaços não lectivos, distribuindo e albergando grande parte do programa, este volume procura demonstrar o seu aspecto mais público, relacionando-se com o tema de Escola Secundária, pela procura da fluidez e objectividade da concepção do mesmo, sendo a sua entrada marcada por dois volumes importantes, não só pela sua composição, mas também pelo programa que contém, a zona administrativa e secretaria, a Nascente e a Biblioteca, a Poente. Estes espaços ligam à chamada Learning Street, que funciona com eixo estruturante de todo o edifício e que neste programa adquire grande importância, visto que o objectivo é criar um espaço informal, de convívio, onde ao mesmo tempo se possa estudar. Ao longo deste volume, existem momentos de vivências alternados, pela composição do seu interior, com espaços polivalentes e zona de bar, ligados pelo Learning Street e separados por pátios, para entrada de luz, criando momento de lazer que marcam e pontuam este espaço.
