I try to work on...- My constant lists: But it does alleviate anxiety and helps time management. Just do not touch my lists. - Taking time out: First in, last to leave. Learning to step away and recharge sometimes. - Saying No: Back in school, I was rubbish at Netball. But every Tuesday, without fail, I was there on the sub bench. Its okay to delegate or prioritise your own tasks. - Me: I’m not the finished product but try to make up for it in determination and an inquisa-tive mind.

Rational Thinker

I use the left side of my brain to help make sense of my job role and how my taks are best managed. It helps me keep track of everything I am doing and multi-tasking various projects. When faced with a problem or a tough decision, I can break things down and make an informed and sensible choice. I am happy keeping a

rough schedule and planning things ahead of time.

HOW I USE MY BRAIN AS AN EVENT MANAGER

Page 5: Portfolio

I use the right side of my brain to sometimes be spontaneous and impulsive in order to create exciting and adventurous projects. I’m not afraid to go with my gut instinct and pride myself on considering peoples emotions in the work place. I

like to express my individuality both in words and actions, and there are occasions when I love to improvise with new and unusual ideas.

HOW I USE MY BRAIN AS AN EVENT MANAGER

Why did I want to become an event manager:Success is not measured in the money you take home, nor the title you have or the company you keep. It is not decided on the degree that you studied, nor the University you went to or the grade you achieved.

Success is what you decide is an achievement. I succeeded in gaining a degree in Journalism and the success lay in the fact that I had thoroughly enjoyed my three years studying a ridiculously interesting subject.

I then succeeded further by ignoring my worries and deciding that being a reporter or writer was not the com-plete career I wanted. I gave Events a try and found a passion.

It was during a Ski trip in Les Arc (French Alps) in January 2012, where I found people complimenting me and thanking me for organising such a brilliant holiday for our Ski club. They could not believe how much informa-tion I had collated, how much I had organised and how calm I seemed to be. I also kept being pestered to ac-tually enjoy the holiday myself seen as I was part of the club. Secretly, I was enjoying it. It was their happiness that made me feel content and proud that I had created such an awesome trip for everyone. A friend of mine joked that I should have looked at Events Management... and a seed was planted.

With Events Management, you don’t have to have all the answers, but you need to be pretty good at knowing where you could find the answer, thinking of an alternative or at least being ready to deal with the aftermath of not knowing.

During the Fringe Festival in August 2013, we had a lot of children wandering off from their parents. You can’t panic, you can’t ignore it, you just have to deal with it. And people are depending on you in a serious situ-ation. There’s a part of that that gives me a buzz. People are relying on you. And not for a Project lasting 12 months or a spreadsheet that needs working on over the next couple of weeks, its today, its now. Theres people right in front of you asking you a million questions, all dealing with their own tasks and looking at you for guidance. I’m a problem solver.

The planning and collaboration that goes in to events is endless. Its experimental and new, its creative and exciting. And at the end of event, when all have gone home- its job well done, now on to the next one.

Events Management so far has taken me all around Europe, through different companies and ways of doing things, to music festivals and sporting events, meeting world performers and famous musicians. I’ve met incred-ibly inspiring people and learnt from their experiences.

Every day is different, every day there is a new challenge. Every day, your working towards something thats going to put smiles on thousands of peoples faces.

Side Project- Blog

What I’m trying to create with this blog, is almost like a comfort blanket. Cardiff is a ridiculously fresh start for me and one that was never planned and which takes me nearly 3 hours away from my family. So I’m exploring Cardiff and South Wales and writing my own take on it.

At the same time, I am basically exploring how us 20-somethings get used to living in whole new cities with whole new beginnings, whilst still wondering how the hell we got there in the first place…
