1920's glamour and contemporary seduction clash in the juxtaposition of these two styles to create a controversial series. A combination of a pair of pink trousers and a necklace of the same bright colour bring contrast to the darkly lit surroundings of a traditional church. This contrast brings out my concept of 1920's glamour with a hint of the sexuality of a scarlet woman.

Therefore I Am...Fashion Campaign

The project required me to create my own brief for a fashion campaign shoot. This resulted in the following.

You are to create a fashion campaign in which to sell the leg wear range from the 2010 autumn/winter collection of Kiwi designer Tessa Cumming. Using 35ml colour film, a model will wear the collection to portray the concept.

The focus of this collection is based on the roar of our nation’s individuality. This is presented through the different textures of the materials, and the green, white, black and gold colour scheme, relating to New Zealand’s “clean green image” is conveyed. Influencing the photo shoot are the green geometrical pants, the root of the collection. Aspirations can be placed on these pants and on the theme of the collection.

The aesthetics of the shoot are to be particular to the edgy style found in our culture here in Wellington. A pain black t-shirt will be used to compliment the leg wear, with black-heeled boots. Make up will be simple with natural skin, hair and lips. There will be one model provided for one shoot. The shoot will last for two hours due to availability of the model, taking place on Sunday 28th June, 8.30am to 10.30am.

The target market for the campaign is female, aged 18-25, with a focus on high street wear fashion-orientated style. To cater to this target market, the campaign will be placed in a magazine spread of a higher market fashion magazine such as lucire or New Zealand Vogue.

This project was an exploration of ephemera through the idea of lines drawn through pencils and the marks they leave behind.

As well as designed errors marked onto a page, a drawing featured on the opposite page influenced this project. Through the mark making process and experimenting with combining these marks together with the featured drawing, the following designs became apparent.

This project explored the combination of contemporary style and Gothic Lolita aesthetics. Details of the Gothic Lolita fashion can be transferred into contemporary clothing, creating a casual street-wear styling.

Special Project

This project was one to be considered carefully. I wanted to produce an idea that was not something to be passed over. By binging this project into an arena where the content is not normally discussed or advocated, a new perception of the subject is created in an environment readily able for action.

The brief given for this project was an opportunity to create something meaningful. As a beginning point, I chose the theme of AIDs. Having written an essay on this subject before, I wanted to be able to create an opening to further this discussion into my own fashion designs. Rather then looking at the medical side of this disease in the social realm. Therefore, my focal point came to rest on the exploration of what happens to the victims' social interaction and emotional environment. To display this investigation and to be put in place to visually see the disintegration of the self and their identity. The title of the garments stands without needing to be explained. They each represent the stages investigated. The title "Concealing Realities Conclusion" puts together a narrative for an individual to come across and educate themselves of a disease that is well known, yet not made aware of how dire it has become. There are procedures in place to provide medical and emotional help, however this is only available to those who can afford it. Therefore, the countries that have the ability to help, are not aware how to. Where the sick do not have the ability to help, they create their own remedies. Stories of having sexual intercourse with a virgin can cure you circulate rapidly, down falling the future of the healthy, and increasing the number of other issue.

Without knowledge, there is no power. Without power, we are left to become passive viewers on a take on life, which is deemed a reality.

Huffer Insomnia is about changeability, wanting you to play and mix things up. Go crazy, have fun and get amongst the mischief.

In our 2011 Summer Injection range, sleepless walker, we are all about the sleepless nights and the freedom that you feel, only when the sun goes down, and the mysterious underground of the night opens up into your playground.

The Huffer Insomniac is someone who lives for the night. They break free of their mundane daily routine and, when Insomnia sets in, uncover the mystery of the night. In their sleepless state, they creep around the city under the shroud of darkness. When all others are tucked up in bed, they unleash their inner child and free their minds. They leave no hill unridden, no wall unclimbed and no forbidden territory unexplored. The rules of society do not apply to them.

AbstractThe battle between the pre-structured requirements of society and choice of the individual has

been an ongoing battle. To become a member of society, it is unlikely to stay a bystander,

watching the war between either side. Each has demands you need to meet, and like any secret

club, they need to be followed to allow you in.

By following the requirements of what is deemed to be the norm, the choice of the individual is

restricted. We are limited to a small selection of prescribed garments, accessories, environments

and actions. These limitations judge us for who we should be, removing any part of ourselves,

losing originals in the mass of the retail industry.

While these rules restrict our freedom of choice, they also hold a different status for some.

These requirements lend a façade for the unsure to hide behind, to remain anonymous. Mass

produced garments create replicas of people, removing any individuality, protecting the wearer

from the ridicule that might come from being different.

The development of this collection is not to resolve this battle. There will never be a clear-

cut winner, and some of the best designs of fashion, and the best expressions of individuality

come from the competition of each side. This collection is instead about the observation of

collaboration. The structure and protection of fashion, remains in the armour like aesthetic, but

with explosions of soft fabric, the outfit gives way to another perception of the individual

and the wearer can be seen in a different light entirely, their individuality pulsing

through the facades.

MarketHigh End Fashion: Ready to Wear

My clothing and accessories aim to bring a new revolution to the unconventional thinkers. The desires of the fashion hungry are fulfilled through the ability to create their own look with futuristic designs, and fashion forward silhouettes, differentiating themselves from the photocopies of society.

A disregard for mainstream trends distinguishes this collection from others you would find in a commercial retail store. Garments can be mixed and matched with other commercial garments, allowing the less brave to partake in the revolution. This gives the wearer the choice to select one piece to wear, or to completely take on a new persona and wear the entire outfit.

Performance wearThe Lights component to this collection means parts of each outfit can be used for performance, becoming apparel art. Dance, in particular contemporary dance, can be enhanced with these garments to provide a new arena to explore. Combining technology, interactive art and body, the light garments can portray what dance techniques aim to do so through traditional dance,

The garments draw the viewer's eye transforming while protecting the virtual body they cover.

The FilmTo push this collection further and exemplify the two contrasting ideas of societies rules and individual identity, the use of El wire will provide the final visual step between the confines of society and the exposure of the self. Lights are implemented in areas where parts of the body are shaped using these lights, making it look like blood is flowing around the legs and torso. From the darkness, these individuals are made up through the lines of lights that flow around the body, shaping up each original who all present themselves differently.

Each outfit contains one garment that has lights incorporated into it. This includes leggings, a leotard, shorts and a pair of trousers.
