GRAPHIC DESIGN
{ HELLO! }This is Soumya Garg, a final year student of Graphic Design at MIT Institute of Design,
Pune. India
This portfolio is a showcase of work done in the period of four years of my design learning. It also shows a little bit about me and things that make me tick.
{ I am currently looking for 20 weeks graduation project }
I am an ambitious and capable individual who believes in offering creative, professional and reliable qualities to any team. I pick up my inspiration from my surroundings and tend to implement them in my design.
It is my belief that the way we perceive a design is very different from the way a person from a non-designer background perceives it. So I try to implement simplicity in my designs.
I am looking forward for a project which helps me to enhance my understanding of design in the real world.
DESIGN FOR BRANDS
A classroom project to understand the whole process of brand formation. We were
supposed to introduce a hypothetical brand and develop
a complete brand experience including brand
personality and its ideologies.

I selected an organic soap as my business. What I had in mind was to create an identity which people can easily relate to. I have picked up elements from nature to create a direct link between the customer and the brand. Visaya is the name cho-sen for the brand.

A self-initiated branding project, I personally have a
keen interest in branding so I thought of introducing a
new brand which can also be for international and Indian
market.
DESIGN FOR BRANDS
{ELEG} is chosen as the brand name which is been derived from the word “Elegant”. My main motive was to create an identity which shows a class. The brand personality is derived keeping in mind the mind setup of women how they perceive different elements.

A classroom project wherein we had to select a product and design a packaging solutions for the same. It
was an interdisciplinary group project, the packaging was to be done along with a product design student. We selected pani puri as
our product.

Pani puri is an Indian snacks which is been consumed by almost 80% of the people in India. As families prefer to have it together so they get pani puri packed for home. In existing packaging every product is packed separately so becomes difficult to carry it and also adds one more process of emptying it in different vessels. Aim- Wanted to create a package which contains everything and cut down the process of emptying in a vessel.
Taking a look on existing packaging of pani puri so as to find out if there is a need for enhancing the packaging.Step1 -

Complication with Current packaging
1. Difficult to carry puri’s.2. Breakage/wastage of puri’s3. Need to transfer liquid products e.g. chutney and pani to a vessel which ends up creating chaos.4. Possibilities of leakage.5. Splashing of liquid while transferring.
Understanding the problem areas and listing out important things to be kept in mind.Step2 -
“A cost effective pani puri takeaway pack which eliminates the task of using vessels,keeping the pani puri experience intact and also doesn’t hamper the activities of the
retailer” In the process adds goodwill and business to retailer.
User- easy to open- easy to pour- cut tasks involved - emptying in another vessel- easy to carry- leak proof- puris should not get soggy- intact puri
Retailers- quick assembling of pani puri- less space consumption- costs- should not hamper service to other customers

Costing- RS 0.7 x 2 = 1.4 {PS bowl}- RS 1 x 1 = 1 (zip lock for paani)- RS 0.4 x2 = 0.8 (zip lock for chutney n ragda)- 2 paisa {Thread cost}- plus travelling expenditure to buy
Quantity- 9 Puris- paani 100ml- Ragda 100gm- chutney 40ml
TOTAL = RS. 3.2 [As of local wholesale rates]

Steps involved in packing
Color selection
Colors are selected according to the whole look and feel of pani puri e.g. earthy colors have been picked.
Information on label
Information regarding quantity of product and some precautionary measures.
The name “Jai Shankar” used on label is temporary which can be replaced by the store’s name which is using the package.
For roadside venders of pani puri the package can be used without label so as to reduce the cost of package.
CORPORATE IDENTITYA classroom project wherein
we were supposed to select an existing company and redesign its identity.
I picked up an ice cream brand by the name of
“blue bird”.
The objective was to create an identity which is simple and would attract kids at once. The bird could also be used as a mascot lately.My target audience was mainly kids. The color scheme is decided keeping mind lively, fresh, happy, chocolaty and something new. I have tried adding fresh colors to it.

INTERACTION DESIGN
This project was a part of course based on a book written by a
Delhi based writer Mrs. L.K.Sharma. The aim was to make the book an easy and interesting reading experience.

The name of the book is “Britain Reborn”. The book is non-fiction on the theme of Anglo Indian encounter in Britain. It consist of 4 volumes in continuation. Naipaul’s children, The Twain, Inside Chutney Palace and Britain Reborn. We were given an option to create visuals which could make it interactive. Aim- Creative an interactive e-book.
SYSTEM DESIGN
A classroom project wherein we supposed to take an already
existing business or service and create a system for the same.
I took Cafe Chokolade of M.G.Road as my subject.

Cafe chokolade is a Pune based cafe running for past 2 years. It has various outlets all over the city. I chose to work on one outlet which is in the heart of the city. This cafe is basically famous for CAD-b. I went through a research session to know more about the company and their customer experience particularly. Aim- My aim was to enhance customer’s experience and make them aware of new products and discounts in the cafe.
I had the system mapped and a few design opportunities like enhancing the look and feel of the place so I planned to work on interaction, Wall graphics (according to branding), Menu design, given an option of “Open air cafe”, E media to place an order.

INTERNSHIPWORK
Six weeks (1 and a half month) of internship at Quantum Communications, Delhi, an advertising firm. This was to make us aware of the practical working in the industry. It was a golden period
for me as I enjoyed working in the firm. I got to learn a lot of things from my col-
leagues.
Logo design for a coffee shop named Tangerine. The client wanted it to keep the styles simple while providing variation in fonts. Designed print ads for Himachal tourism. The guideline given to us was to create ads to promote Himachal tourism. They wanted us to show different area which tourists can enjoy in Himachal.
