just a glimpse Amanda Victoria Garcia, born and raised in Harlingen, Texas. I am an Environmental Design major studying to be an Architect at Texas A&M University. I plan on attaining my Masters in order to become licensed Architect.

behind the design The unique shape of this micro dwelling is a result of making the home as small as possible, while still including all the necessities. Located in Cuernevaca, Mexico, started off in a triangular shape, however, the corners would become useless, so it ended up being a polygonal figure to minimize wasted space, creating a 217 sq. ft. home that is very livable by a single person.

roof design These slats that are cut into the roof are to allow natural light and wind to circulate throughout the house without having to turn on any air conditioning. The direction of these slats face the direction of the wind, which is the east.

hideaway bed In order to conserve space in the house, the bed had to be stored when not used considering it uses much of the floor area when in use. The series shows how the bed can be lowered into the floor and out of sight when there is company. The bed may also be used as a couch if one wished to do so.

design This 2,299 sq. ft. house is located in College Station, TX, and has a lake on the eastern side. The an 180° view of the lake. Which also leads to the patio which can be enjoyed as well to take in the view. The house is ADA compliant, therefore it has a very open floor plan. All bedrooms can access natural wind flow through the windows as well.

scenic view As one walks into this house, the first thing they will see is a beautiful view of the lake through the panoramic windows located at the opposite end of the house.

resourceful The garage is located on the western side of the house in order to insulate it from the suns rays. Also, clearly seen in the photograph, the roof is angled toward the southern side of the house where there is an underground rainwater collecting system that drip irrigates the vegetable garden and pumps water to the toilet.

vegetable garden This particular garden is raised to a height where a handicapped person would be able to garden easily from their wheelchair.

spatial separation In order to create a space divider, the roof, columns, and bar counter create the distinguished areas between the living room, and the kitchen & dining area.

intertwined This end table is designed after the beauty of rings. connected only by slits that hold the whole thing together. The table top is made of clear Plexiglas in order to see each ring completely, and the body is made from galvanized tin. The material used is the same amount of material in a 4x8 sheet of plywood. Each ring decreases in radius as well as depth as it goes towards the top.
