In 2002, Jamie Oliver, a world-renowned English chef (see www.jamieoliver.com) launched a program called “Fifteen” in which he and his staff elected 15 underprivileged young people and put them through an intensive culinary training program to become top-noch restaurant chefs. In this project, our client, a close friend of Jamie Oliver which is the owner of the parking lot on Colborne Street and Church Street in the St. Lawrence neighbourhood was interested in launching a similar program here in Toronto. GBC12, his preferred name for this project, is unique in that it is the first of which will provide student with on-site accommodation. The building was also to house up to two other commercial leasable facilities as well as a new restaurant.

The application of the principles of fundamental thinking in design and technology, to a project of greater scale and complexity was vital to succeed in this project. To introduce the consideration of design and technology in an urban context; to develop pragmatic requirements for multiple activities of small groups of people; to investigate considerations of amenity, spatial quality, view, privacy, interaction with climate and neighbourhood and structural capacities, circulation, multi-use and limited use space was led to a very successful project and a happy client. And all of the above qualities of this successful project was achieved by approaching this project with a fundamental and successful perspective of research and development.

ECO-Rush was a three day weekend cooperation project between The institute without boundaries and School of Architectural Studies at George Brown College for World House Habitat at Mississauga.
At ECO-Rush we have designed a project that will provide families with a chance at a better life now and for the future. With sustainability in mind we have created units that will cater to the lives of those in need, allowing them to grow together. Using the natural elements of the site and utilizing new construction technologies we have created a concept that will maximize the climate and the terrain while maintaining the cultures of the community and providing the financial flexibility that is needed.
To Learn, To Help, To Live.
