The structure consists of wood members in irregular shapes. It starts low in the back and gradually grows larger towards the stage of the amphitheater. Sound boards take the irregular shapes within the wood members in front of the stage.

The skin system consists of wood members that take the same shape as the structure. The people of the community comes together to take part in building the structure.

The end project consists of the skin system and structure coming together as one. People can now come to the amphitheater as a community together.

As visitors make their way through the osage monument they come up to the entrance to the cultural center. The cultual center provides a canopy structure that is part of the rood structure of the center.

As visitors enter the cultural center, they come upon the lobby and the gallery. The lobby and the gallery are given a skylight to provide light and a place to gather before making their way through the cultural center.

After the visitors walk through the galleries of the cultural center, visitors come upon the atrium of the center. The atrium creates a connection from the lower gallery spaces to the upper spaces. This space creates a chance for the visitors to see outside upon the osage site from the atrium.

After visitors have spent time in the Cultural Center they can exit through the gift shop and enjoy the scenary in the cafe. From this point within the cultural center visitors are able to proceed through the site and to the outdoor experience, outdoor theater and the view pavilion.

The beginning process of the project provided a chance to study the relationship of spaces and their arrangements. These arrangements create new spaces and create an organization pattern for the program.

The final product provided an organized pat-tern of spaces that creates a guide for the rest of the site. Throughout the rest of the site the pattern is consistent and helps cre-ates larger spaces not only in the interior but the exterior as well. The patter is seen on the right in the arial view and the site plan.

Concept: To have a sense of purity and understanding of the body. To foster the community’s sense of well-being through the Wellness Center.

goals

arial view

to identify a relationship between public and private spaces in combination with the development of a neighborhood transit station and a mixed-use development that includes both commercial and residential development

to create an economic and cultural network within the river north district in order to establish a tighter connected community

to propose a permanent infrastructure

to revitalize the existing streetscape through means of sustainability, thus increasing the quality of life and livability of the district to change the future of how we design urban walkable and transit-oriented development

to provide a new precedent and way to achieve a transit-oriented developmentthat acts as a living fabric that unifies the river north district

transit

The new Transit-Oriented development will create an open feeling that invites pedestrian users not only from the River North District, but surrounding areas as well. This structure helps to erase the boundaries we normally put between all of these functions found on the site. It permeates through them to bond all the features within the development and out in the community.

The plaza creates a large pedestrian and community focus within the site. This walkable area will generate the growth of foot traffic and help to foster the idea of a pedestrian friendly development that will hopefully extend beyond just our site.

The plaza creates a large pedestrian and community focus within the site. This walkable area will generate the growth of foot traffic and help to foster the idea of a pedestrian friendly development that will hopefully extend beyond just our site.

The two residential towers on the west side of the site will provide housing for multiple income levels. This housing is designed to attract the growing demographic of independent and youthful people in the area by providing a mix of both studio and loft style apartments.

The open air farmers market helps to support sustainable concepts, create a sense of community that can be experienced by more than just the immediate neighborhood, and provide a center for the com-munity to gather and operate special events and meetings.

With the little amount of space available for the residential footprint, the studio apartments are configured through the geometry from the structure. Each studio apartment consists of this geometry and is seen throughout the site. The studios facing inward towards the center of the site are provided a balcony and great views of the surrounding context. The studio apartments are available to provide for a single or a double living unit space for the resident. Each room provides everything necessary for living comfortably and within budget.

The studios are on the top floor of each building at double story height. Each loft is shaped by the geometry within the site. These rooms provide wonderful views towards downtown and the Gold Coast. foundation, progression and materialization

Foundation, progression, and materialization are the three elements that tie the central states region and design. At the foundation, there is the concept, the beginning of a legacy. It starts small, but springs up with determination. As it develops, it fans out and becomes more diverse, lending strength and shape to the region and inspiration in design. This sculpture represents the central states region as it grows and finds definition. The trophy lets each year’s design team add to the legacy of the region. As the progression of design can be predicted, so to can the form of the sculp-ture, but it is not until the end when it is completely materialized that it is fully seen. As the pieces are added, the legacy of the region is shown in the simplicity and strength of the materials.

the trophy is packaged in a wooden case. The case opens on the front side as seen in the diagram to the right. Dimensions: 8 in x 11 in x 18 in. The case will be used to transfer the trophy to the annual winner

An addition to protecting the trophy during transportation, the case is used to store the ribs. These ribs are magnatized on a sliding component within the traveling case. There are two sliding components that hold five ribs each. Each rib will be presented to the annual winner and inserted into the trophy.

The back side of the traveling case door will hold the individual plaques of the trophy. These plaques will be presented along with the ribs. The plaque will then be engraved with the winners names and the annual winner will take their slot.
