River North Roasterie and Café San Antonio, TX

The River North Roasterie and Café is a comprehensive studio project completed in my fourth year systems studio. The weeks preceding design development includ-ed research into the coffee and roasting culture along with schematic and site development exercises in the context of the San Antonio River North Master Plan. My primary focus in this systems studio was the struc-tural system and the fabrication of its elements for efficiency and ease of assembly. I integrated an intri-cate roofing system with a three piece tenon column and beam system. These systems provided a systematic design approach in creating an experiential space to promote the refocus on urban San Antonio

The evolution of the library has resulted in an exponential increase in digital media to supplement hard copy literature. I used the circuit board as an analogy to translate its efficiencies into an architectural design. Components of the circuit board such as capacitors, printed circuits and resistors were explored and applied to dynamic archi-tectural issues such as programmatic space, circulation and nodes.

Artemis Institute Jackson, Wyoming

The Artemis Institute is a non-profit organization in accordance with Montana State University founded to create opportunities for architec-ture students to design and build projects for clients in the Jackson area. The Vessel project serves as a traditional play structure to be used by all patrons of the church. The design features elements of a boat, which represents the common theme of passage through a vessel throughout the bible. The Tree Fort project serves as a less orthodox play structure intended for the preschool. The concept of biomimicry was extensively researched and applied to the Tree Fort design.

Topics in Advanced Digital Design Rib Script in Rhino

1. Loft two created curves to form a surface. 2. Offset surface to 1/8” material thickness to form a polysurface.

3. Offset modular grid to create intersecting planes form trimming.

4. Use polysurface as cutting object to trim grid. The relief forms the model.

5. Run rib script in Rhino to notch intersecting planes for laser cutting preparation.

6. Each curve is unrolled sent to laser printer. Ribs make for easy assembly.

18

10 State Grasshopper Manipulation

1: After creating a hexagonal grid with an offset, I created a boundary parameter in order to edit the offset and number of hexagons.

2: Increase of hexagons in one direction of grid.

3: Increase of hexagons in both directions of grid.

4: Offset and decrease of hexagons in grid.

5: Offset of the grid.

6. Offset and extrusion of the grid. 7. Offset and extrusion of the grid.

8. Axial rotation of the entire object. 9. Offset and axial rotation of the entire object.

10. Duplication and rotation of step 9.
