IMPORTANT DATES
Port Pirie West Primary School
Throughout Term 1, Room 2 students have been developing their
knowledge and understanding of place value. By practising their fluency
of ‘rainbow facts’ each day, many children in the class can now quickly
manipulate numbers to 10, 20 and even extend to 100 and 1000.
Recently patterning, ordinal numbers and number lines has been a
focus. Partner collaboration and group work has supported our learning
of strategies with these topics.
Last week we had an ‘egg-cellent’ time with our cheaper Easter eggs that
we decided to quadruple in amount by receiving them after Easter from
Ms Pike. We have been using them for addition and subtraction sums,
while being very patient and delaying eating them.
With narrative writing Ms Pike’s group has been learning to write a
narrative that include speech marks “ “ and varied punctuation marks
such as exclamation marks and question marks. ! ? Students have been
creating oral ‘stand up sentences’ and then writing them.

Hi Pirie West Community,
I hope you had an enjoyable Easter long weekend. School holidays start tomorrow so we have an early finish at 2:10pm. Due to the ANZAC Day public holiday school returns on Tuesday April 27th.
Next term I look forward to our Year 4/5/6 Camp planned at Arbury Park, in the Adelaide Hills.
The transition of the new Early Years class begins today. We are excited to welcome Mrs Bodzioch full time next term and her students to Room 22.
Thanks to Chris for his work at PPWPS. We wish him all the best in his new role at SA Housing.
Thanks for your ongoing support this term. I hope you have a nice break.
Kind Regards
Fiona Perry— Principal
ANZAC Day - Sunday 25th April 2021
This year the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at the World
War 1 Memorial Gates at 6am is by invitation only.
The public are invited to lay wreaths or poppies at the
gates during the day. The ANZAC Day Civic Service and
march has been cancelled. As a result of the COVID-19
restrictions the RSL encourage families to “Light up
the Dawn” to remember and pay respects from home. I will be
attending the service with student leaders from PPWPS. Fiona
Port Pirie West Early Years
Maths Morning
Families from Reception to Year 2 are invited to attend our Maths Morning. Please come and listen to
some information about Maths at Pirie West and then play some Maths games with your children.
When: Friday 14th May
Time: 9:15am
Where: Building One Hall
Last week the Carly Ryan Foundation visited the Year 5/6 students and spoke about cyber safety. They shared their website called esafety, where you can report any unsafe interactions on the internet. Carly’s story was horrible. She was meant to have a sleep over but didn’t show up. The Police found
her body the next day at the beach. She was suffocated by a 50 year old pedophile. We were advised to have strong passwords, keep passwords confidential, don’t befriend any person that you don’t know (especially if they don’t show their face), and to check friend requests by using the photo on google search.
The presentation was scary and informative. STAY SAFE on the internet during the holidays!
To celebrate 100 years of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) a Poseidon P-8A plane flew over the school around 11:30am last Wednesday.
KESAB attended on Tuesday to teach us about Recycling and how you can take soft plastic to Coles to be reused. We helped clean up the yard.
Have a safe holiday.
