Please ensure you are registered with Centrelink to find out about your eligibility for Child Care Subsidy. Thanks also to our kindy families who have paid their term kindy fees as this goes towards providing resources, ex- cursions, and shared morning tea. This year has been very busy at PLCC. Lynn and I went on a study tour to Reggio Emilia in Italy. It was a very long flight to Dubai, then to Bolonga but very worthwhile. Reggio Emilia was a very inter- esting place to visit. I was especially enthused about the partnership the education centres have with the community. I enjoyed the visits to infant and toddler centres and the preschools. These centres had many examples of how the children are active members of their community and showed community involvement in the centres. Nadine presented at the State Aboriginal Education Con- ference in Adelaide, which was exciting to share the changes to practice at PLCC to ensure literacy outcomes for children are achieved. Nadine spoke about the small group conversational reading that is currently happening in kindy. If you would like to know a bit more about conversational reading, reading aloud and some words that extend children's thinking and knowledge, please come in and see Nadine, Roxanne or Rose. Please come and have a look at the play spaces, we have been working at developing the outdoor area as a third space for learning for the children. We have had many trials over the years to change our practice and spaces (some more successful than others) to make sure we provide the best pos- sible learning environment for the children to be the best they can be when they leave PLCC. Port Lincoln Children’s Centre Newsletter Dear Families

A huge thank you to all of our childcare families for your patience, understanding and support

while we transition to the new way of life under the New Child Care Package. Please ensure you are

registered with Centrelink to find out about your eligibility for Child Care Subsidy. Thanks also to

our kindy families who have paid their term kindy fees as this goes towards providing resources, ex-

cursions, and shared morning tea.

This year has been very busy at PLCC. Lynn and I went on a study tour to Reggio Emilia in Italy. It

was a very long flight to Dubai, then to Bolonga but very worthwhile. Reggio Emilia was a very inter-

esting place to visit. I was especially enthused about the partnership the education centres have

with the community. I enjoyed the visits to infant and toddler centres and the preschools. These

centres had many examples of how the children are active members of their community and

showed community involvement in the centres.

Nadine presented at the State Aboriginal Education Con-

ference in Adelaide, which was exciting to share the

changes to practice at PLCC to ensure literacy outcomes

for children are achieved. Nadine spoke about

the small group conversational reading that is currently

happening in kindy. If you would like to know a bit more

about conversational reading, reading aloud and some

words that extend children's thinking and knowledge, please come in and see Nadine, Roxanne

or Rose.

Please come and have a look at the play spaces, we have been working at developing the outdoor

area as a third space for learning for the children. We have had many trials over the years to change

our practice and spaces (some more successful than others) to make sure we provide the best pos-

sible learning environment for the children to be the best they can be when they leave PLCC.

Childcare News

As the warmer months are approaching its great to see that the children are remembering to put on

their hats and sunscreen before heading outside to play and enjoy the sunshine. We asked some of the

children ‘What it means to be Sun Smart’. These are their answers “If we didn't put sunscreen on we

would burn”, “if its really hot we have to get a cold drink of water,” “wear sunnies” and “stay in the

shade when you’re outside.” Just a reminder to parents that singlets and dresses with straps are not

sun safe, we encourage you to send T-shirts that cover the shoulders of

your child/children.

EYLF Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
