Intro

The Pope and the church gained much power on the Middle Ages, they used it to give hope to the people in dark times. The people went to the church to ask god for their needs and to hear what god needed to say. The church got all that power with the help of the religion. The church became so powerfull that was all around Europe.

The church in the Middle AgesDuring the Middle Ages also known as Dark ages, the people went daily to the church to ask Jesus for their needs. The effect of people going to the church everyday to ask Jesus for their needs was that the church became so powerfull that what the Pope said was done. This power corrupted many Popes but still there were some popes who were known as, The Best Popes ever.

The corruption and the power was shown in many ways. An example of this are the Crusades. The crusades was a war that the Pope Urban II started to regain Holy Land (Jerusalem) . Not all Popes were corrupt, they were also very good popes such as Pope Paul III.

During the Middle Ages the Pope was considered of the high class society. He was very respected and Praised. He was almost as powerfull a king, but still he didnt own a nation.

The Work of a PopeThe Popes were responsible for a lot things such as to manage the church and give public speeches. The Pope was known as the king of the church because he was the most important member of the church.

The time to become a pope is not short; it takes the hole life to get there. A Pope starts from the bottom in the organization of the church , and he ascends through the different positions of the churchs organization when, he is appointed by one of his superiors .Once you become a Pope you will stay there for your hole life until you die. Even when he dies, he will be remembered for the rest of his life because of the actions he did.

In my opinion, Popes should retire when they want. I think this because the Pope should live the outside world.

Popes on WarThe Popes were extremely powerfull, so much that they could extradite countries, start wars, and give people obligations. Many of the Popes in the Middle Ages extradite hole countries and also some of them started wars. Still with all this power in their hands some Popes didnt use it well.

One of the most remember Popes of the Middle Ages is Pope Urban II. Pope Urban II is remembered for the war he started vs Palestine. This war was because Seljuq Turks had taken control of the Holy Land, what in this days is known as Jerusalem. The rewards that he gave to everyone that participate in this war was that everyone will be free of all the wrong doings he had done. Despite of all this effort Pope Urban II was not able to reconquer Jerusalem from the Seliug Turks.

7Becoming a Pope

It takes a long time to become a Pope. First you needed to join the church, then you will study to become a priest and you will be the alumni of a bishop who could select you to become a bishop. This ascend in the church organization has taken you plenty of years and you wouldnt even be half way within the organizational rank. Then, if an Archbishop sees you working very good he might also ascend you to that position or a position nearby, still with all this ascends you are only getting to the half. Now that you are an Archbishop your next ascend will be to the Curia place, but for this you will need that a Curia dies for you to take his place. Now you are almost there but from all the Curias world wide you have a little bit of chances to be selected as the next Pope. The begging of CorruptionThe corruption of Popes during the Middle Ages was huge. This started when the Pope Sergius III became Pope. The begging of his reing was very violent, first he was technically accepted but then he was replaced by Christopher and Leo, who later on he send them to be killed. When he killed them he became Pope again.. Later on people discovered that the one who ordered the killings of both Popes was Sergius.

This had a big influence on other popes. Later more and more popes became corrupt. This was the time with the most number of corrupted popes.

Reasons for corruptionThe Popes needed to be responsible of there actions, but some of them prefer not to be. In the Middle Ages many people become corrupt including Popes. This happened by various reasons, for example some popes change there tittle for gold or even others stop following the church rules and change there tittle for girls or fun. But even still with so many corrupted popes some of them didnt go that way.

Popes were very rich and had there privilages, but they also had rules that they couldnt brake. But because of the curiosity and the power they brake that rules.

Until DeadThe life of a Pope was a long journey. From the day they enter to the church and become Parishes to the day they get to a higer position they see there life has change quite a bit. Popes for example have been many years on the church.

Popes have now passed for all lower charges until this high position. Normally to become a Pope it will take the hole life. Then that you are on this charge the Pope would stay there until dead, but in other cases some popes prefered no to do that. On the Middle Ages popes will normally stay on that position for all there life until there dead.

A lot of Popes become corrupted in the middle ages, but later on the church members decide that the person who made this one more time will be errase of the map, and this was the way they supresed it. Still with some bad Popes the church continued gaining a lot of power. All this happened because all was going wrong at this time. The reason why we still talk today about Popes of the Middle Ages is because they had a lot of influence in the people of that time because of their power.

I also learn that the church during the Middle Ages was all over Europe and was a worldwide power. They also defend, accept, and give an opportunity to people to go in and pray for what they needed. Still today the church is very important and still a lot of believers are in the hands of the pope and the church

Popes on the Middle Ages make a lot of acomplishments, but the major known for were:The Crusades, Gratest corruption of all times, crowning Kings and Emperors.

Today we study Popes for all the acomplisments they made on the Midddle Ages

How do we benefit from their legacy? Did the efforts of the person, the conditions of the place, event, and/or technology have a significant impact on our lives? Explain in detail.

The reason why the Church still exist is because all what happened in the Middle Ages. Without all that bad things happening on that days no one will have ever go to the churchand if that happened the church will lose all its power.
