Annual Syracuse Catholic Women’s Conference
Attention Ladies! Mark your calendars!
The 9th Annual Syracuse Catholic Women’s Conference is coming on
October 27th at the OnCenter in Syracuse. A day out with women featur ing
well known speakers including:
Nikki Kingsley, Fr. Shawn Monahan OMV, and Susan Tassone
The theme for this year’s Conference is “Trust in the Truth.” Drawing from their
unique backgrounds and personal experiences, each presenter will highlight the
unchanging Truth of the Catholic faith. Priests will be available for Confessions
and the Holy Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Cunningham, a seated plated
lunch, vendors, & much more!
Pope John XXIII will be reserving two pre-paid “Tables for Ten” again this
year at the Catholic Women’s Conference. Call the par ish office at 315 - 652
- 6591 to reserve you ticket for ONLY $25.00 - less than half price of a regular
ticket ($70 at the door if space allows). Don’t delay, tickets go fast!
Pot Luck Dinner
Pope John XXIII Parish will be hosting a Pot Luck Dinner on Saturday,
November 10th after the 5:00 PM Mass in the Parish Center. You
must bring a dish that serves at least six in order to attend. We are
looking for main courses (past, soup, casserole, meat, etc.), vegetables
dishes salad and desserts. Hot and cold beverages will be provided.
Sign up sheets are located at the main entrance of the church.

Joseph’s House Baby Bottle Drive
During the month of September, as a result of the effort of the below
volunteers and the generosity of the parishioners of Pope John XXIII
church, we were able to raise $7, 400 during our Baby Bottle Drive to
support Joseph’s House in giving pregnant homeless woman an
alternative to abortion and offering them a new chance at life for them
and their children.
Thank you to the following volunteers: Bronson Kopp, Executive
Director of Joseph’s House, Kathy King, Mike King, Dawn Marie Rau,
Alice Beiswnger, Emily Beiswenger, Carol Jones, Matthew Brady, Frank
Sylvester and members of PJ 23 Youth Group for their support of the
Joseph’s House mission to promote the sanctity of life and the dignity of
women by providing a nurturing home for mothers facing an unplanned
pregnancy or homeless.

World Mission Sunday Appeal
This Sunday is World Mission Sunday, we are called to be part of
today’s special appeal, supporting mission priests, religious Sisters and
Brothers, and lay catechists who provide loving service to those most in
need, As Catholics around the world gather at the Eucharist around the
table of the Lord, let us PRAY for the Church’s worldwide missionary
work and OFFER financial help through the Society for the Propagation
of the Faith. Your generosity gives hope to vulnerable communities
throughout Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands.

On behalf of the entire parish community I thank all who made
our celebration of the Feast of Pope St. John XXIII such an informative
and joyous occasion. Special thanks to: Paula Picciotto who chaired the
great Feast of the Good Pope (Italian Feast) on Saturday evening. It was
truly a fitting celebration in honor of our patron, Pope John XXIII with
delicious food, music, successful raffles and generally a great
community spirit. My gratitude as well for Jacqueline Bressette for the
informative bulletin blurbs and insert, Chris Kennedy and Elizabeth
Fallon for the musical involvement of the children, and Social Life
Committee for the morning Coffee and Donut reception. Lastly thanks
to the following volunteers who helped make it all possible: Cheryl
Babrowicz, Matt Brady, Jacqueline Bressette, Brian & Karen Dahl, John

As we come to the end of summer it is also a time for thanks
to all those who maintained our beautiful flower beds and took such
good care of the parish garden. We appreciate the tender loving care of
Joan Wells, long time coordinator of the flower beds and helpers
Michelle Callahan, Peter Egan, Sue Garavelli, Sharon Hambrecht, Rick
Kline, Eversly & Keisha Parkins, and Margi Lawrence, Joe McMullen,
Bill Saarie and the initial planters for an abundant harvest from the
parish vegetable garden. It was a good year thanks to all of you and the
blessings of the Lord.
All Souls Commemoration
There will be a special remembrance of parishioners who have died in
the last year at 10:30 AM Mass on Sunday, November 4th. All are
invited to join the families of the decedents in this special candle lighting
and prayerful remembrance.

Onondaga County’s own Barbershop Chorus, of which two of our parish-
ioners are members! Will be performing a benefit show: “The Harmony
Katz of Broadway”, to support the Food Bank of Centr al New York.

Food Pantry News / Thanksgiving Baskets
Thank you very much for your continued support of our Food Pantry. As in the
past, we will be preparing Thanksgiving Baskets for families and senior citizens in
our community. Food items that are needed for the baskets are located on the
tables at each of the church entrances. On behalf of our 40 families and 25 senior
citizens, we again thank you for your generosity.
If you would like to bring in any perishable items before the date shown on the
cards, please call the Parish Office 315 - 652 - 6591, arrangements will be made
for someone to meet you at the Food Pantry at your convenience.
Congratulations to Larry Messina!
Our congratulations to Larry Messina who was formally accepted into
the Diaconate Program of the Diocese and service here at Pope John
XXIII parish. Having already completed two years of study and
discernment Larry was accepted into the final two years of preparation
for the Diaconate at a Mass at the Cathedral this past Sunday. May he
have the support of our prayers for the remaining two years of study and
many years of service to the people of Pope John XXIII parish.
