With the continued campaign to empower the project beneficiaries with skills and knowledge onall aspects of the project, FRANCESCO closed the contracts with TESDA and DepEd to start thefirst step to the construction process. The Pope Francis Building, a two-storey six classroombuilding, will be built in Scandinavian Elementary School in Brgy 100, Diit, Tacloban City. TESDAtraining already commenced with a total of 125 trainees from the Pope Francis Villagebeneficiaries.
Preparations for the upcoming construction process such as procurement of materials, obtainingof necessary permits, detailed planning and engineering works, coordination with DepEdtechnical staff and school officials, soil testing, and any other pre-construction groundworks aremeticulously undertaken by the project team to finally put up the Pope Francis Building.

550 displaced and affected households have access to safe, permanent and sustainable housing with resiliency features and complete with toilets, water pipes and electrical lines, better equipped to face natural disasters

Training was conducted by STEFTI whichcommenced last 06 October 2015;
TESDA budgeted a total of Php 850,000.00for the first batch of training in STEFTI;
With the continuing discussion regardingthe possibility of the second batch ofbasic skills training, TESDA affirmedthat this may pursue provided thatFRANCESCO will be able to produce therequired number of participants and theirqualifications. This will include SMAW,Carpentry and Masonry.
Objective 2 Demo Farm
There are 5 farms identifiedthat serve as a demo farm for theproject beneficiaries namely:
1. Diit farm,2. Yaokasin,3. Cordero farm,4. Mahusay farm and5. Pretencio farm lot;

Savings ForumObjective 2
On October 9, 2015, a savingsforum was conducted attended by 500members of the community (both fromproject beneficiaries and communitymembers). The negotiation is that thesocial team will invest an amount equal tothe investment of the community member.
The savings forum wants toelevate the savings of the community intosocial enterprise where they will be taughton how to use and increase their moneysaved for a period of 6-8 months.

that will include 600 participants from
community; 182 pax were assigned to work
at the Pope Francis Village; The program
will last for 15 days.
On the site, the markings are already
identified, so it will not hinder the project
beneficiaries from utilizing the area for
natural farming.

Objective 2 Bagsakan Center
The Bayanihan Food Garden was successfully conducted with the objective to incorporate sustainability from the community.
Two (2) bagsakan centers were organized. The concept of bagsakan centers is to gather all the harvested products of the community from natural farming which in turn will be bought in lump sum by assigned individuals.

Refresher course on BDRRMC structure and functions was conducted last 19 Sept 2015 by the Social Team
Meeting with OCD upcoming meeting/workshop on revisiting the DRRM program of Tacloban;

Organize a strong community with a Community Council and empower them in the areas of estate management, local governance, networking, and advocacy for basic social services such as health and education and conflict resolution.

First Aiders Committee was mobilized and is functionalFour (4) members from the community who completed andgraduated from the Community First-Aid training and Basic LifeSupport conducted by the Philippine Red Cross are actively on-duty regularly under the guidance of the Project Nurse. Theyare monitoring the health and welfare of the community whoare working under the Cash-for Work Program at Diit.
Objective 4
Build a community that is ecologically, economically and socially sustainable. The eco-village will be adapted including the local building materials, recycling, wastewater treatment, use of renewal energy, organic farming and planting of trees.
On the use of locally available materials, the team coordinated with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and obtained contacts of local cooperatives that can supply the project with raw bamboo for proposed livelihood of project beneficiaries.
The application of vermi-composting as a practice by the community;
There is still the continued coordination with Oxfam for the waste water technology.
As already implemented, the social team has incorporated the use of natural farming as part of the livelihood program.
