On Sunday, September 28 and Monday, September 29, the stretch of

Broadway from Olympic to 7th Street will come alive with street performers,

cultural programming, site-specific visual arts installations, pop-up

storefronts, plein air paint ers, dancers, musicians, bike rentals and video

projections. The intent of this urban overlay, dubbed Pop-Up Broadway, is

to demonstrate the power behind Mayor Garcettis Great Streets Initiative

to strengthen neighborhoods one main street at a t ime. Great Streets

activate the public realm, provide economic revitalization, increase public

safety, enhance local culture, and build great communities.

Taking advantage of the incredible diversity that al ready exists along the

sidewalks of Broadway, the most pedestrian intensive st retch of Los Angeles,

Pop-Up Broadway uses the new publi c spaces created by Councilmember

Jos Huizars Bringi ng Back Broadways Dress Rehearsal coupled with

existing businesses, empty storefronts, constructi on fences, blank walls as

well as the traditional publ ic spaces of the sidewalk.

Pop-Up Broadway culminates Monday night with the parallel opening of

CityLab: Making L A at Broadways Ace Hotel presented by the Aspen Institute,

The Atlantic, Bloomberg Philanthropies and Los Angeles Magazine.

Pop-Up Broadway is presented by the Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti,

the Great Streets Studio, the Los Angeles City Department of Transportation

and the Los Angeles City Department of Cultural Affairs in conjunction

with Councilmember Jos Huizars Bringing Back Broadway Initiative.

Pop-Up Broadway is produced and curated by Community Arts Resources(CARS), a leading innovator in the activation of pub lic space through

    content-driving programming.www.carsla.net
