Because earthquake fault slip rates feed into Seismic Hazard, I will calculate the fault slip rate (i.e. source characterization). The following are the steps I would take:1. Rate = Distance / Time.2. The stream is 10,000 years old,

so the time span is 10,000 years.3. The stream channel has been

offset. I will measure the distance in Map Units.

4. I will determine the scale of the map (conversion factor).

5. I will convert the Map Units to Real World Distance with the conversion factor.

6. I will divide the Real World Distance by the time to get the fault slip rate.

7. I will convert the slip rate units to mm/yr so it can be used by the design engineer, she will appreciate this.
