Differences between these two videos. There are a lot of differences between these two music videos. The two videos show a clear difference between the pop genre and the r&b genre. I have chosen to research the difference between these two genres because they often are mistaken for each other and I want to make sure that my music video fits the conventions of Pop as that was our chosen genre.

Costume – the costume in these two videos is different in that the r&b costume is black and white with no changes of colour and is mainly tight fitting to suit the male gaze. However, the costume in the pop video is very bright and creative and has lots of different colours and styles to support the up beat tempo of the song. Whereas the r&b song isn’t as up beat and “cheesy”. Props – the props in these two videos are different because in the first video the props are minimal and aren’t a big part of the video whereas in the second video props are a huge part of the video and make up the majority of it to keep the video interesting.Lighting – lighting differs a lot in these two videos as the Rihanna video has low level lighting with the performer in the spot light and you cannot see very much of a back ground but the Katy Perry video has very high level lighting and high contrast to make it brighter and there is a lot going on in the back ground supporting the happy beat of the song.Colour – colour contrasts the most in these two videos. This is shown by the first being very minimal in colour with all the back grounds apart from one in black and the costume is all black and white stopping colour from being brought into the shots, the main colour is black. This is completely different in the second video because the costumes, backgrounds, and props are all extremely vibrant colours and the contrast has been increased during editing to make it look even more bright and colourful.
