Mock Interview Day

Year 11 came to school dressed to impress for this year’s Mock Interview Day. We were delighted

to welcome to Pool Academy over 30 of our local business partners to put our year 11 students

through an interview process to prepare them for the competitive world beyond the school. It was a

great morning and the year 11 did us proud! The comments from the interviewees were amazing.

They just didn’t expect the mature, well dressed young people that turned up for the interviews. I

had at least four people tell me that if that person had turned up for a position in their company they

would have been offered a job. I even heard rumours that one year 11 was offered a position. The

feedback evaluation forms from our business partners were unanimously positive. Every member of

staff that participated in the main hall for the event felt extremely proud of our students. I would like

to congratulate you all for the way you prepared and took part in the interviews. I have never seen

you all look so smart!

Safer Internet Day

Students took part in the annual "Safer

Internet Day" recently. The day is designed

to help students across the world stop and

think about keeping safe online. There were

a range of activities happening- some

students made some great role plays that

were filmed on iPads to be displayed on the

big screen in the library. At lunch and break

time the ICT rooms were packed as the ICT

staff unfiltered social networking sites. Staff and student mentors then spent the time talking with

students about how they use websites and how checking their privacy settings keeps them safe.

Passport to the World

Tuesday 12th February saw Pool Academy canteen host its first ‘Passport to the World’, in which Icelandic food was served to pupils at lunchtime. The Icelandic menu created by pupils Emily Bowles, Eden Oxborough and Matthew Patrick consisted of fish stew, vegetarian sausage stew and sweet rice pudding. The winning pupils were treated to a free Icelandic meal as a reward for their efforts.

The turn-out for the Icelandic menu was a great success, with comments from pupils such as “delicious,” “it is really good” and one pupil even said “it tastes better than I thought!” A huge thank you goes out to the Geography Department, Mr Creeper and Mrs Boase for organising the event. A further thank you also to Stuart the chef and all the canteen staff for preparing the tasty feast!

The next ‘Passport to the World’ themed menu will be China, date to follow after half term!

Year 9 Students from all over Cornwall completed a Maths Master Class

at Truro College on Saturday 9th February. The event was run by train-

ee Maths teachers, including Mr Barker. Alicja Bochnacka, Fiona Pascoe,

opportunity, learning about the ‘The History of Mathematics’. The photo

included was taken in the ‘Future Zone’ when the students were working

ber in Spain. Pool Academy would like to send their congratulations to Georgie. You should be
