SCOPE AND APPLICATION OF SD
The following employees are eligible to compete for the award of a SDS / SDA:
•Permanent full-time Namibian citizens – in the employ of the institution for a period exceeding 3 years
•Permanent residents – in the employ of the institution for a period exceeding 5 years

AWARD OF SD
• The relevance of the study to institutional and national needs will condition the granting of the award
• SDS awarded solely at the discretion of the Council
• Staff already receiving SDA or SDS is not allowed/entitled to receive further financial assistance from any other institution/ organisation

DURATION OF SDS
Granted once for a particular qualification. Financial assistance determined on merit by the HR Committee.
•BTech/Hons (post diploma) – 1yr full-time and 3yrs part-time
•Masters – 2yrs full-time and 4yrs part-time
•Doctors – 3yrs full-time and 5yrs part-time

STAFF DEVELOPMENT LOANS
• An interest free loan covering the whole or part of the study fees for approved work-related courses / programmes may be granted
• Repayment starts immediately after study fees have been paid to the institution concerned
• Granted on a year to year basis

REMISSION OF STUDY FEESPolytechnic of Namibia:•Permanent employees and full-time contract appointments of 1 year and longer, spouses and dependent children under the age of 23 years•Undergraduate studies only•Tuition fees•Only once per subjectUniversity of Namibia:•Permanent employees and full-time contract appointments of 1 year and longer, spouses and dependent children under the age of 25 years•Under and Postgraduate studies

LEAVE
1. Study Leave• Workshops / Examination / Full-time studies abroad• Must enter into an agreement• Remain in the service after completion of studies
2. Examination Leave• Granted once only per subject
3. Occasional leave (accumulative)• Staff can opt for accumulative leave – no agreement
