2002 structure structure (solids and liquids) D 2000 50 - 008 Polymeric, Band Shaped Tellurium Cations in the Structures of the Chloroberyllate Te 7 [Be 2 Cl 6 ] and the Chlorobismutate (Te 4 )(Te 10 )[Bi 4 Cl 16 ]. Black crystals of Te 7 [Be 2 Cl 6 ] (I) are pre- pared from Te, TeCl 4 , and BeCl 2 in an eutectic Na 2 [BeCl 4 ]/ BeCl 2 melt at 250 C. Needle shaped crystals of (Te 4 )(Te 10 )[Bi 4 Cl 16 ] (II) are obtained from Te, TeCl 4 , and BiCl 3 in the molar ratio 5:1:2 by chemical vapor transport in the temperature gradient 150 90 C. As revealed by single crystal XRD, (I) crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnnm with Z = 2 and (II) in the triclinic space group P 1 with Z = 2. The structure of (I) consists of one-dimensional polymeric (Te 7 2+ )n cations which form folded bands and of discrete [Be 2 Cl 6 ] 2- anions forming double tetrahedra connected by a common edge.
