Polymer Based Synthesis In an attempt to create more uniform distribution of nanorods, the polymer PEI (polyethyleneimine) was added to the solution in a haphazard fashion. •Surprisingly, this resulted in high quality nanorods with very little “junk”. The idea came from a paper which used this process on aligned nanowire films. •We have found that in our solution synthesis, which I would refer to as a spatially uniform synthesis, this polymer can produce tapered nanorods with very little amorphous “junk”.
