Polymer Based Synthesis

• In an attempt to create more uniform distribution of nanorods, the polymer PEI (polyethyleneimine) was added to the solution in a haphazard fashion.

•Surprisingly, this resulted in high quality nanorods with very little “junk”. The idea came from a paper which used this process on aligned nanowire films.

•We have found that in our solution synthesis, which I would refer to as a spatially uniform synthesis, this polymercan produce tapered nanorods with very little amorphous “junk”.

What’s Next?

• Continue to work on the Matlab Program.

• Prepare an experiment for manipulating polymer-based synthesis.

• Attempt a CVD run, and prepare an experiment based on distance.
