Steve Hartz began his career in the jewelry industry in 1982, at age 16, as a sophomore in high school. Hartz was hired as part-time sales for LeRoy’s Jewelers, one of the original Sterling Jewelers’ retail stores. He continued to work for Sterling and its retail stores throughout high school and re-joined them at their corporate headquarters in Akron, Ohio shortly after graduating from the University of Michigan in 1990.

In October 1993, Hartz helped launch one of the first two Jared Galleria stores (the two stores opened one day apart). Hartz went on to successfully manage other Sterling stores such as JB Robinson Jewelers, increasing annual sales volume at each store by simply following his dad’s philosophy, “When you break bread with others, it comes back to you in loaves.” In other words, “When you build relationships, business follows.” Today, Hartz owns SHR Precious Metals, Inc., a refining company, he founded in 2008, that caters to independent jewelers and pawn shops across the country. Growing up in Philadelphia with a family store on Samson Street, the jewelry business was a way of life for Josh. With three generations of jewelers before him, the natural path was to continue in the business. He started his training by studying cutting in Idar-Oberstein , Germany, and continued by attending GIA and earning his GG in 1992. Since then, Josh has worked in many aspects of the industry. He began working in retail locations, both domestic and abroad, soon making the transition to a large scale jewelry and pawn operation. He followed this by working at a buying office before opening his own in 2011. This experience honed his skills in diamond grading, colored stones, as well as signed and antique jewelry. Josh’s formal knowledge, combined with years of trading, gives him not only highly technical skills but also a deep understanding of market prices.

People acquire expertise in many different ways. With no family in the jewelry industry, becoming self-taught was a long and expensive journey. John honed his skills as a watch buyer on the road while engaging with a wide variety of jewelers and pawn shops. When the recession hit, trading only domestically was no longer an option. Expanding his network included traveling the world, primarily in Asia. Doing business with an extensive and highly varied array of stores and individuals gave him an expanded view of the market. With that knowledge, he continued to grow by opening a pawn operation where he has taken his strong market knowledge and familiarity with watches, both modern and vintage, into daily over-the-counter buying and selling. John’s day-to-day operations as a pawn shop owner, plus his maintained relationships with other dealers and stores, keep his skills sharp and always up to date with both wholesale and retail markets.

Jacques Voorhees is the founder and former CEO of Polygon. Sara Yood, Senior Counsel at the Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC), is an attorney admitted in the state of New York with extensive experience in intellectual property law. Yood’s responsibilities at JVC include anti-money laundering compliance, trademark monitoring, trademark litigation, advertising monitoring, creating legal compliance tools and publications, and general legal strategy. She has developed an additional expertise in U.S. and international laws concerning the importation and exportation of animal materials used in jewelry, and has authored multiple JVC publications illustrating the laws surrounding the jewelry industry. Yood is a sought-after speaker in the jewelry industry, presenting on topics such as intellectual property law, advertising law, the laws about the import/export and use of animal products in jewelry, employment law, and the compliant use of diamond grading reports in selling jewelry. She has been a featured speaker at many jewelry and fashion industry events and trade shows, including JCK Las Vegas, AGTA Tucson, JA New York, RJO, AGS Conclave, the United States Import-Export Council, the Fashion Institute of Technology, and at Fordham Law School. The auctions are ideal for retail jewelers and pawn brokers who wish to sell secondary market/OTC goods, or for any seller to move diamond inventory, and are only accessible to members of the trade.

Polygon members are pre-qualified to participate, and can access the auctions to bid or list items after a quick one-step registration.

“The auction feature offers complete visibility to the users and a quick turnaround, so it fits well with Polygon’s platform and services,” said Sean Lemire, Director of Sales & Operations of Polygon. “We have received great feedback and believe our members will find this an extremely beneficial, easy to use tool.”

Hoover & Strong launched its unique online diamond auction platform in January 2015, and has since gained momentum and growth as both buyers and sellers are excited by how quick, seamless and transparent the auction process is.

The auctions are held twice a month and feature single diamonds larger than 0.40ct

or parcels of diamonds larger than 0.20ct with a minimum carat weight of 1.00ct. All diamonds are inspected, graded and cataloged by Hoover & Strong and all bidding is done online. Items are available for online bidding during a 48 hour auction, starting Mondays at 2:00pm EST and ending Wednesdays 2:00pm EST.

All items can be entered into the auctions directly through Polygon, where the sellers will be able to print their packing list, shipping label, and track their diamonds throughout the process. Likewise, bidding and the entire auction process for buyers is done from the member’s Polygon account online.

Harmony Diamond Auctions to Polygon members directly through the Polygon member platform.

VAULT STORAGE INFORMATION

Safety deposit boxes are armor plated, solid steel safe deposit boxes that operate on a two-key system. Only the registered safe holder can access the safes and will be accompanied by security. A fee of $100.00 will be charged to any safe holder who loses their keys.

Each safety deposit box measures 10”x10”x24” (deep).

The use of one safety deposit box in the vault is included in the packages for Gold and Silver booth holders. Other exhibitors and attendees are encouraged to use the vault. The fee per safety deposit box on April 15th and 16th (including overnight) is $100.

EACH SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX MEASURES

A show vault will be provided for goods storage as of 9:00-10:00am on Saturday, April 14th, and 6:00-7:00pm

on Sunday, April 15th. The vault will be located on the show floor, under video surveillance, and guarded

by armed guards. All goods in the vault must be checked in with the guards.



Additionally, Malca-Amit is offering overnight, insured storage at their Dallas-area facilities the night of Saturday, April 14th.

Pick-up of goods for overnight storage will be done between 6:00 and 6:30pm at BLUESTEM 1 in the Hilton Conference Center.

Goods will be picked up by armored car service and delivered to the show floor the next morning – in the Prairie Ballroom, Hilton Conference Center, between 10:00-11:00am.

There are a limited number of safety deposit boxes at the hotel front desk that can be used

on a first come, first served basis. Please enquire at the hotel front desk directly.

SHIPPING, ARMORED CAR & AT-SHOW INSURANCE SERVICES

Malca-Amit will provide discounted rates for all event attendees, and be on-site at the event (Hilton Granite Park) to deliver goods and take return shipments per the schedule below. Early deliveries will also be offered on Saturday morning for those who wish to receive their goods before the show opens.

You can opt to use armored car services or Malca-Amit Express Shipping (insured shipping via FedEx) for deliveries and pick-ups to and from the show site.

Malca-Amit is the official armored car service, insured shipping, storage, and on-site insurance service for the Conclave & Trade Event 2018.
