Welcome to Merawah

WELL, WHAT A YEAR it has been so far. The worst drought in living memory followed by, for many, the best season they’ve seen

for many years. Just as things looked like they may be getting back to some kind of normal, the global COVID-19 pandemic tipped everything on it’s head and caused a tragic number of deaths worldwide and untold hardship for many business operators across the country. Australia appears to have weathered the virus much better than many countries and is taking significant steps to return to normality as soon as it can.

The cattle market has reached new levels over the last few months due to the combination of low numbers and many producers with an abundance of feed looking for trade cattle along with producers looking to rebuild herds. The grass fed markets are starting to really ramp up with forward contracts up to $7.00/kilo dressed weight already out there at the moment along with a number of exporters looking to procure Hereford heifers at very attractive rates.

On the home front, many of our cows have seen a lot of the country over the last 6-8 months including a stint in southern Victoria until early April when they finally returned home and joined up with those that stayed behind. A 95% pregnancy rate on all of them is a testament to the fertility of those cows. While Merawah is still very much in need of good follow up rain, they have powered ahead since they returned. So many people have helped us along the way and we are very grateful for all their assistance. Hopefully we will never need to go to those extremes again!

The bulls have handled the trying conditions well at home along with a bit of agistment on a few failed crops around the district last spring. With our last oats crop here being in 2017 and with this years barely being ready to eat, they have been out in the paddock and have been getting a canola hay/barley straw mix with some gradings mixed in for the last few months and have done extremely well. This is a very strong set of bulls with good numbers, plenty of growth and thickness that are ready to go out and work in your herds. There are a number of bulls in the offering that we recommend for heifers – look for the H symbol on their lots.

The sale will also be interfaced with Auctions Plus for those who can’t make it ( or would prefer to stay home in these unusual times)– contact your preferred agent if you’re not a regular user of this platform and they will be able to set you up to use it.

We will be observing whatever the current COVID-19 rules are that will be in place in July – we WILL certainly be having a physical sale and if everything stays on course most people should be able to attend as normal – fingers crossed!

We look forward to seeing as many of you as we can on July 14 – we’re very proud of these bulls and the cows that produced them and look forward to catching up.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE

VENDOR1. The expression “the vendor” means Merawah Poll Herefords, Boggabilla NSW.

THE SALE2. The highest bidder above the reserve price shall be the purchaser and if any dispute shall arise as

to the bidding, it shall be decided by the auctioneer, whose decision shall be final. The bidding from time to time shall be regulated by the auctioneer and no bid shall be retracted.

3. The auctioneer expressly reserves the right to refuse any bid without indicating any grounds or reasons therefore.

4. The Auction shall be conducted on the basis that the bid price shall be exclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST). GST shall be added after the fall of the hammer for those sales subject to GST.

5. The purchaser, if more than one shall be jointly and severally bound by the terms and conditions and shall jointly and severally carried out and perform the same.

RISK6. All lots shall be at the risk of the purchaser on the fall of the hammer.

PAYMENT7. All lots shall be paid for in cash immediately on the fall of the hammer and prior to delivery, but

in the event of delivery being made or possession being obtained by the purchaser or his/her representative prior to payment in full of the purchase money shall have been made (and in the case of payment by cheque or other negotiable instrument such payment shall be deemed to have been made only when clearance of such cheque or other negotiable instrument shall have been effected) the purchaser shall hold lots purchased as bailee only for the vendor.

8. All Payments of purchase money shall be made to the clearing agent.

DEFAULT9. If the purchaser shall neglect or fail to comply with any of the above conditions, any lots

purchased by him/her may be immediately re-sold by public auction or private contract, with or without notice at the risk of the purchaser, who will be held responsible for all loss and expenses arising out of such resale and shall not participate in nay profit accruing there from.

AGENTS10. The auctioneer is to be considered merely as an agent of the vendor/s and all disputes from

defect of title, breech of any warranty or otherwise, the purchaser and the vendor/s must adjust the matter between themselves and no lot is to be returned to the auctioneer.

11. A rebate of 5% on Stud Cattle will be paid to and Agents introducing a buyer in writing prior to the Sale Day, and making payments within 7 days of the Sale Day.

INJURY TO PERSON OR PROPERTY12. All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk and the vendor assumes no liability, legal

or otherwise, for any accident which may occur.
