What would winter be without knits? From an ultra-plush cable-knit poncho at Barbara Bui to an exaggerated woven turtleneck at Alexander Wang, a cozy dress code is required this season. On the runway, the trend
unraveled in many unusual forms: wooly coats (Viktor & Rolf), prickly pullovers (Kenzo), ropey sweaters (Atsuro Tayama) and hand-loomed dresses (Altuzarra). One thing is for sure: When it comes to cold weather collections, basic knits are so passé.
Techs can take the textured trend and follow guest artist Ran Kowatari’s lead. Using 3-D tone-on-tone acrylic, mimic the knits seen on the catwalk—nubby, wooly and everything in between.
