POLISH FISH INDUSTRYEvery day, from small fishing boats and family fish farms to the world’s largest salmon smokehouse, we produce high-quality fish and fish products with pas-sion and dedication for the most demanding Europe-an and non-European markets.

The Polish fishing industry, which designates over half of its production for export, is ready for the chal-lenges of the contemporary world. The Polish fishing industry is distinguished by the following features:• Adherence to the highest hygienic standards

and safety with respect to food products,• Competitive prices and flexible approach to clients,• Openness to various forms of cooperation,

even with the most demanding buyers.

The Polish fishing industry oers a wide range of fresh fish (sea and freshwater), fresh and frozen fillets as well as processed fish products such as deli products, smoked and canned fish.

The Polish fish processing industry consists of over 250 processing plants, which have the right to sell their products in the Common Market area (ap-

proved establishment according to Regulation (WE) 853/ 2004), and more than 370 firms entitled to make direct sales. Most plants, especially small and medium, are private enterprises or family businesses. Only some medium and large enterprises are capital firms listed on stock exchanges and owned by inter-national concerns or funds.

Most fish industry plants were started after 1990 under free market conditions. The intense involvement of the owners made the fish processing sector devel-op very dynamically, not only satisfying the growing expectations of Polish consumers but also opening export markets. Polish firms very quickly gained a reputation for being reliable, stable partners who are also very competitive in terms of quality and price.

Today the Polish fish processing industry produces 450 000 tonnes annually, resulting in 2 billion euros of income. Over 60% of production is exported to Germany, Great Britain, France, and Denmark, among other European and non-European countries. Poland is the biggest salmon importer in the world, import-ing only from Norway 153 000 tons in 2014.
