RIPE Policy Development
• RIPE policies are made by people like you! • Policy development in RIPE is done via working
groups — following an open, bottom-up, consensus-based approach
• People share policy ideas in working group sessions at RIPE Meetings…
• …but all discussions and decisions take place on the mailing lists

Let’s use an Example…
2014-03, “Remove Multihoming Requirement for AS Number Assignments” • Would allow ASNs to be assigned for any need that
can’t be satisfied with an existing one• The RIPE NCC would no longer evaluate need, but
would record this• 1,000 ASN limit per organisation• 16-bit ASNs must be multihomed within nine
months
