Police: 'MacGyver bomb' exploded in school parking lot
WEST CHICAGO, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -
Authorities are investigating after a "MacGyver bomb" exploded Friday morning in the parking lot ofan elementary school in west suburban West Chicago.
The DuPage County sheriff's office was called about 10:30 a.m. after a plastic bottle exploded in theparking lot of Indian Knoll Elementary School, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.
Deputies arrived and determined the bottle was used as a "chemical reaction device commonlyknown as a MacGyver bomb," the sheriff's office said. They searched the school and grounds as aprecautionary measure, but no other devices were found.
No injuries were reported, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies will remain at the school whiledetectives continue investigating.
