    How to Start M easuring Your Heart Rate (BasicUse)1. Place the t ransmit ter around your chest and wet the elect rodes . Place the

    receiver on your w rist .

    2. Press and hold the OK but ton to s tar t the measurement . The s topwatch and

    the exercise recording start . Your heart rate w ill appea r in about 15 seconds.

    How to Stop Measuring Your Heart Rate1. Press the stop but ton. The s topwatch a nd other calculat ions stop. Heart rate

    measurement continues but exercise da ta is not recorded into a file anymo re.

    The Polar S810 and Polar Precision Performance™ sof twa re of fer you various

    ways to customize your exercise sessions so they meet your personal needs.

    For example, you can build up exercise profiles to guide you through various

    training sessions. Choose the functions that suit you best: OwnCal calorie

    calculation, timers or recovery calculation, etc. Monitor your fitness level, and any

    long-term changes in it , by performing the quick and e asy Polar Fitness Test™ .

    After t ra ining, you can review your exerc ise f ile an d t ran sfer it to your

    computer for ana lysis with the sof tw are. Or, you can t ransfer your heart ra te to

    the computer in rea l t ime through an o pt ional Polar IR Interface™. In addit ion,you can perform an over t ra ining test , included in the sof twa re, for thorough

    informat ion a bout your body’s recovery.

    tha t a ppears on the display above the

    button indicates its use.

    Useful Tips• Brief ly pressing a but ton (approximately 1 second) will do dif ferent

    things than pressing and ho lding the but ton f or a longer period of

    time (approximately 2 to 5 seconds). If your press the button for a

    longer period of t ime, you can use shortcuts.

    • The bu t t ons a re s ligh t ly s t if f e r t ha n t hose o f a n o rd ina ry w a t c h t o

    prevent them from b eing pressed acc identa lly.

    • You can a lways return to the Time of day display from the Opt ions

    setting or File recalling loops by pressing and holding the stop button.

    Easy Start

    How to Prepare the Wrist Receiver

    1. Since the display is blank when t he receiver leaves the

    facto ry, you have t o activate t he w rist receiver by pressing

    the OK butto n tw ice, aft er which the Time of da y display

    appea rs. This is a o ne-off procedure; on ce you have turned

    on your receiver you can not turn it off anymore.

    2 . You ma y s t a r t mea sur ing your hea r t r a t e r igh t a w a y

    using t he defa ult set t ings . How ever, the fo llowing

    set t ings are ones tha t i t wo uld be useful to change as

    soon a s possible: Time of da y (see section Watch setting s)and personal user settings (see section User information

    settings).

    3. Polar S810 has various funct ions tha t you can use

    according to your personal t ra ining needs. For more

    informat ion, see sect ion Modes an d t heir funct ions. You

    can either manua lly enter the set t ings by pressing the

    receiver but tons o r you can def ine your set t ings using

    Polar Precision Performance sof twa re, a f ter w hich the

    data should be t ransferred from your computer to the

    wrist receiver.

    4. Wear the wris t receiver as you would wea r an ordinary

    wa tch. If you go biking, we recommend a t ta ching the

    wrist receiver to a Polar Bike Mount™ .

    How to Put the Transmitter on

    1. Attach the t ransmit ter to the elast ic s t rap.

    2 . Adj us t t he s t ra p leng t h t o f i t snug ly a nd

    comfortably. Secure the s t rap around your

    chest, just below the chest muscles, and

    buckle it .

    3. Lif t the t ransmit ter of f your chest and

    moisten the grooved electrode areas

    on the ba ck.

    4 . Chec k t ha t t he w e t e lect rode a rea s a re f i rmlyaga inst your skin and the Polar logo is in a

    central, upright position.

    How t o Start M easuring Your Heart Rate

    1. Beg in w i t h t he d isp la y t ha t show s

    the t ime of day.

    2. Keep the wris t receiver within

    3 feet/1 meter of your t ransmit ter.

    3 . Chec k t ha t you a re no t nea r peop le t ha t ha ve

    heart ra te mo nitors, high voltage pow er lines ,

    televisions, mobile phones or other sources of

    electromag net ic d isturbance.

    Modes and Their Functions4. Press the OK but ton t o s tart measuring your heart ra te . A heart symbolwill start f lashing a nd your hea rt ra te (beats per minute) will appear in

    a m aximum of 15 seconds.

    5. Press OK aga in. The stopwa tch starts running and you can s tart

    exercising. The exercise data will only be sto red in a f ile if you have

    turned the s topwatch on.

    How to Stop M easuring Your Heart Rate

    1. Press the stop but to n. The stopwat ch and other ca lcula t ions stop.

    The hea rt ra te measuring cont inues, a lthoug h exerc ise da ta is no longer

    recorded.

    2. Press the stop but to n aga in. The heart ra te mea suring s tops.

    The receiver shows the Time of d ay display ag ain.

    Aft er Exercising

    4. Store the transmitter in a clean and dry place. Dirt impairs the conductivity

    and fun ctioning of the transmitter. Sweat a nd moisture can keep the

    electrodes wet and t he transmitter activated, which shortens battery life.

    When you start setting exercise preferences, you first select whet her you

    BasicUse  (E0)

    BasicUse is a simple mode fo r exercising. You do not have to do a ny settings

    befo re exercising with this Exercise mode. There a re no heart rate limits in

    phases are successive, Ex., in interval training.

    During exercise, you can see the same opt ional values as in the BasicUse

    mode . Heart rate limits and up t o 30 interval and recovery periods can be setfor each phase.

    BasicSet  (E8)

    BasicSet is a pre-programma ble exercise set, but simpler tha n a n exercise

    profile. There are no pha ses available alth ough three timers and a recovery

    period help yo u split up the exercise session. The t hree a djustable hea rt rate

    limits allow yo u to mo nitor your w orkouts, securing the correct intensity.

     You can use two modes while

    exercising: Measure or Exercise mode.

    In the Measure mode you can see

    your heart rate but exercise

    information will not be recorded. In

    the Exercise mode your exercise isrecorded. Stopwatch and other

    calculations are also started.

    1. Wear the transmitter and th e wrist receiver as described in “Easy start” section.

    2. To ensure tha t the code search will f ind a s ignal:

    • Keep the wris t receiver within 3 feet/1 meter of your t ransmit ter.

    • Chec k t ha t you a re no t nea r : peop le w i t h hea r t ra t e moni t ors, h igh

    voltage power lines, televisions, mobile phones, cars, motor driven

    exercise eq uipment or other electromag net ic dis turbance.

    Swap Time 1 or Time 2

    In the Time of d ay display press and hold th e do wn b utto n. Time 1 or

    Time 2 is displayed in t he uppermo st row f or a couple of seconds. Displayed

    time will now be used in all watch and alarm functions. If you chose time 2,

    “ 2” is displayed in t he Time of d ay display.

    Shortcut t o Watch Setting Loop

    Press and hold th e signal/light butt on fo r a few seconds to en ter into the

    wat ch set t ing loop. I f you want to skip some parts and go direct ly to a wat ch

    function, scroll up or down button until the desired watch function is

    displayed . Set the f unction as in the “ Watch settings”  section.

    Swap Measuring Units

    As you set your user information for weight and height, press and hold the

    signa l/light butt on until the units are swapped . Release the butt on.

    Swap Date, User ID, User Name and Logo

    You are able to set a user ID number, user name and logo with the Polar

    Precision Perfo rmance softw are. These settings are show n on t he upper row 

    of th e Time of d ay display. You can swa p betw een the user ID, user name,

    logo and da te b y pressing and holding the up but ton.

    You can uploa d 7 reminders , each including t ime an d na me, to your wris t

    receiver from Polar Precision Performance software.

    The reminder sounds an a larm only w hen t ime of d ay is displayed. When

    the reminder alarm comes on, it will sound for 15 seconds. You can turn it

    of f b y pressing an y of the b ut tons except the s ignal/light but to n.

    Erase the reminder text b y pressing an y of the b ut tons except the

    signal/light but ton .

    Turning the heart rate zone alarm on/off

    Press and hold the signal/light button. When appea rs on the display the

    zone a larm is on. A beeping no ise will sound w ith each heart bea t to a lert

    you tha t your heart ra te is outside the set l imits. I f you do not w ant t o use

    the zone a larm the f lashing heart ra te reading indica tes if your heart ra te is

    outside the limits. This function can be used if you h ave turned on he art rat e

    limits in Profile and BasicSet exercises.

    In ad dit ion to the a larm you can see:

    if you are exercising above heart rate zone.

    if you are exercising below heart rate zone.

    3. Start f rom the Time of da y display by pressing the OK to start mea suringyour heart ra te . A heart symbol w ill s tart f lashing and your heart ra te in

    beats per minute w ill appear in max. 15 seconds. The fram e around the

    heart symbol indica tes tha t t he hea rt ra te recept ion is coded. The

    receiver returns aut oma tically to the Time of da y display within

    Polar S810 automat ica lly stores a lap t ime wh en you stop recording a nexercise. Polar S810 can store 99 laps if you have not used the profile

    function . After storing 99 laps FULL appea rs for a few seconds every

    t ime you take a lap. You can cont inue taking laps but t hey will not be

    recorded . The wrist receiver continue s recording a ll oth er informa tion

    of the exerc ise, except lap and Prof ile informa t ion.

    Pausing the Exercise

    Press the s top but ton.

    The exercise recording , stopw atch a nd o ther calculation s are paused. To

    continue t hem, press OK. Or, to ret urn to t he Time of d ay display, press and

    hold the s top but ton.

    The receiver auto mat ically returns to the Time of d ay display w ithin

    The ba r indica tes the baseline of your relaxa t ion ra te.

    Bar of d ots indica tes the current relaxa t ion ra te in rela t ion to

    your baseline va lue. I f you are in a mo re relaxed sta te than

    the ba seline va lue, the bar of do ts is on the right s ide of the

    baseline bar, and vice versa.

    You cannot select the same displayed funct ion to the upper and midd le row 

    i .e . the opt ion o n the middle row is no longer a va ilable for the upper row.

    Select the Lower Heart Rate Information row

    3. Press and hold the down but ton to select f rom the fo llowing: Current heart

    rate, average hea rt rate (avg) or the reading in percentage s of your

    maximum h eart rate (% max) if you have set your user information.

    You can only change the d isplayed funct ion of the low er row if the

    stopwatch is on.

    Resetting the Stopwatch to Zero

    1. Pause your exerc ise by pressing the s top but ton.

    2. Press and hold the down but ton unt il the stopw atch is reset . " Reset "

    stops flashing as the stopwatch is reset. Release. If you are resetting a

    profile exercise repeat step 2.

    3. Press OK to restart the s topw atch and recording or to return to the Time

    of d ay display, press and hold the s top but to n. As a result of reset t ing

    your s topwatch the recorded f ile is deleted.

    Deleting a File

    1. In the Time of d ay display scroll up or do wn until FILE is displayed .

    the signal/light butt on. DELETE FILE and file num ber are displayed.

    4. Press OK. The receiver confirms if you wa nt t o delete a f i le (Are yousure).

    5. Press OK to delete the selected f ile .

    6. Press s top to exit the f ile . Wait a ppears . The receiver reorganizes your

    f ile , which takes few seconds.

    7. Press stop to return to the Time of da y display.

    Deleting All Files

    Recorded Heart Rate Samples

    You can reca ll deta iled heart ra t e informat ion of an

    exercise from the sample file. Start with the display

    show ing SAMPLES.

    1. Press Ok to s tart reca lling the recorded samples of your

    exercise informa t ion. The f ollowing informat ion is

    displayed: The RR read ing in milliseconds (ms), the

    sample numb er (S1 - If the RR recording ra te is turned off ), the time

    when t he heart ra te sample occurred and heart ra te .

    To be able to t ransfer the recorded t ra ining informat ion via IR

    communica t ion a nd t o a na lyze it w ith Polar Precision Performance

    software version 3.0 or later, you need the Polar IR Interface.

    There is two-waycommunication between Polar S810

    and a computer. The Polar Precision Performance

    software offers an easy way to analyze training data.

    A training log makes it possible to plan future training.

    Wrist receiver settings can be uploaded from the software

    or manually entered.

    After preparing your settings you can upload options lock 

    to ensure that your settings will not change. You must

    deactivate the options lock from the “user features” of 

    your software.

    Uploading Settings from Computer

    The Polar Fitness Test is an easy, safe and quick 

    way to estimate individual maximal aerobic

    power and to get predicted maximum heart rate

    value. The Polar Fitness Test is targeted to healthyadults.

    OwnIndex is a va lue which is comparab le to ma ximal oxygen upt ake

    (VO2max

    ), a commonly used descriptor of aerobic fitness. Cardiovascular

    (aerobic) fitness relates to how well your cardiovascular system works to

    transport and ut ilize oxygen in your body. The st ronger a nd mo re ef f ic ient

    your heart is, the better the cardiovascular fitness is. VO2max

     is a go od

    indica tor of performance capability in endurance sports .

    communication or via audible Polar UpLink. For IR communication please

    For the polar UpLink communication proceed as follows:

    2. I f the receiver is in the Time of da y display scroll up or dow n unt il

    CONNECTis displayed.

    3. P lace the receiver less than 4" /10 cm from the loudspeaker.

    4. Act iva te the upload funct ion of the sof tw are. Do not move the receiver

    during the da ta t ransfer.

    5. The receiver automat ica lly starts to upload the informat ion as UpLink

    and COM appear. You w ill hear a chirping sound w hile informat ion is

    tran sferred to th e receiver. The receiver autom at ically returns to th e

    Time of day d isplay a f ter d a ta t ransfer.

    If the data transfer was unsuccessful bring the receiver closer to the

    loudspeakers or turn t he volume level of the loudspeakers up.

    Interrupt the data t ransfer to t he computer by pressing t he s top

    button during data transfer. CONNECTis displayed.

    softwa re via Polar UpLink, you need a personal computer with a sound
