Route 18, heading to Fuchsia City on a partly

cloudy & windy aternoon! "he clouds are #lowing

in the wind & $o$entarily #lock out the Sun inso$e parts! A cold #ree%e #lows through the area

& Serena speaks to Ash!

Serena: Ooh, it eels cold out today.

Ash: ou said it, Serena, !ut "e#re almost at$uchsia %ity.

Serena: Oh, that#s good. So, is the Saari &onehere a great 'lace(

Ash: ou !et it is. ou can catch all kinds o "ildPokemon in there.

Serena: That#s 'retty interesting. What "as it like"hen you frst )isited it(

Ash: Boy, "as it something. When *isty, Brockand + frst arri)ed there, the "arden at the time, aguy named ai-a, "as a )ery tough man.

Serena (intrigued: eally(

Ash: e', and he "as )ery strict a!out enorcingthe rules. + you didn#t ollo" them, you "ere going

to get it.

Serena (understanding: Ah/ha.

(As they go on, $ore clouds start rolling into the

area until it #eco$es an o'ercast!



Serena: What else ha''ened(

Ash: Then, Team ocket sho"ed u' and issued us achallenge, that i "e "on, they#d lea)e us alone,

!ut i they did, "e#d ha)e to gi)e them all ourPokemon.

Serena: Sounds like that "ould#)e !een a"ul.

Ash: Oh, it "ould#)e !een. So, "e "ent in and hadgotten o0 to a 'retty good start. Brock and +caught a cou'le o Tauros, then ater that, + tried to

catch a hyhorn, though + "asn#t !eing careul andaccidentally caught another Tauros.

Serena: Ahh. That#s 'retty silly.

Ash: e'. +n act, !y the end, + "ounded u'catching thirty o them. But any"ays, "e lateround out that Team ocket "as going ater a rare

1ratini and "ere going to use an electric !om! toget all the Pokemon li)ing in the 1ragon 2alleylake.

Serena: *y goodness.

Ash: +t "as a!out to go o0, so ai-a di)ed in to getit. Then, + di)ed in ater "ith him, along "ith

*isty#s Staryu, "here + had it take him !ack to thesurace, "hile + "ent ater the !om!. + had gottenit and tried to s"im !ack to the surace, !ut + hadrun out o air and nearly dro"ned.

Serena (sy$pathetically: Well, that#s horri!le.



Ash: But then, a 1ragonair came in 3 rescued me,and it turned out that it e)ol)ed rom the 1ratiniai-a sa)ed.

Serena (i$pressed & a$a%ed: Wo", that#s reallyama-ing.

Ash: *mm/hmm, !ut you can#t tell anyone elsea!out the 1ragonair or 1ratini.

Serena: All right, + "on#t.

("hey continue onward! Eight $inutes later, they

arri'e in Fuchsia City! ust then, lightning )ashes

within the clouds and, two seconds later, the

thunder ru$#les!

Ash: Ooh, sounds like it#s going to get nasty.

Serena: eah. We !etter head take co)er.

("hey hustle on o'er to the Poke$on Center #eorethe stor$ starts!

4oy: 5ello, there guys. 5o"#s it going(

Ash 3 Serena: 6ood, 7urse 4oy.

4oy: Well, that#s great to hear. + take it you "ant torest u' your Pokemon(

Ash: ou !et "e do.

4oy: Okay, +#ll get right on it.

("hey hand her their Poke*alls & Pikachu, puts

the$ on a rack and carts the$ o+! ow, they go



o'er to the waiting area and sit in a #ooth seated

near a window!

Serena: So, ater the Saari &one, "hat do "e do

rom there(

Ash: + don#t kno" yet, !ut "hate)er it#ll, +#m sureit#s going to !e un.

Serena: Okay, then. Oh, + almost orgot. + ha)esomething or you.

(She goes into her #ackpack, pulls two s$all #ags

and hands the$ to Ash! -ne is ull o Poke Pu+s,

and the other has $acarons!

Ash (appreciati'ely: Thank you, Serena. That#sreally nice.

Serena: ou#re "elcome, Ash.

(She turns & looks out the window and gets asurprised look on her ace!

Serena: (gasps! Ash, you ha)e to see this.

Ash: What is it, Serena(

(.e looks outside and sees/ it0s snowing 'ery

hard, and the wind #lows it all around and a )ash

o lightning appears in the sky!

Ash (a$a%ed: Whoa8 That#s incredi!le.

Serena (concurring: eah, !ut ho" is this 'ossi!le(



Ash: + don#t kno". +t is really "eird seeing lightning3 thunder in a sno"storm.

Serena: *ay!e Siara "ill kno" something a!out it.

(She goes into her #ag, pulls the Pokepilot out,

turns it on and calls Siara, who is doing so$e

training with her ragalge!

Siara: 5i, guys.

Serena: 5ey, Siara. 5o" are you doing(

Siara: Oh, terrifc. 4ust hel'ing 1ragalge "ork onits Scald attack.

Ash: That#s cool, and ho"#s that !een going(

Siara: +t#s !een going "ell so ar.

Ash: That#s great.

Siara: *mm/hmm. So, "hat are you guys u' to(

Serena: ight no", "e#re at the Pokemon center,and there#s a thunder sno"storm going on rightno".

Siara (ascinated: eally(

Serena: eah.

(She holds the Pokepilot out to the window andshows Siara!

Siara: *y, that is a strange 'henomenon.



Ash: ou said it, so do you kno" ho" this kind o"eather can ha''en(

Siara: Well, to !etter understand that, you need to

kno" ho" a lot o the "eather is ormed.

Ash: Okay, ho" does it ha''en(

Siara: To start "ith, it usually de'ends on theatmos'heric 'ressure. 9ssentially, !ecause theamount o heat rom the Sun )aries each day,tem'eratures "ill also )ary de'ending on "here

less dense, the air rises to higher le)els, "here thetem'eratures get much cooler, and the "ater)a'or condenses into clouds, thus !ringing'reci'itation to some areas.

Siara: The air in one area heats u' aster than theair in an ad;oining area, the 'ressure di0erentialscreate "ind. When this occurs, the air in the hotter

area !ecomes less dense 3 rises as an u'drat.Ater that, cooler air comes in as surace "ind, getsheated u' as "ell, rises "ith the u'drat, coolsdo"n and gets 'ushed out as u''er air "ind.

cooler tem'erature orces it to !e condensed, itoten in)ol)es the mo)ement o air masses, "hichare large !odies o air "ith similar tem'eraturesand moisture content. There are our naturaloccurrences that cause air to rise, like the

Siara: ou#re "elcome, Serena. 7o", i you guys"ill ecuse me, "e need.

Ash: Okay, !eore you go, "ould you minde'laining ho" a thunder sno"storm can occur(

Siara: Sure thing. Basically, "hat ha''ens is that acold ront comes in, lits u' the "armer air, "hichthen condenses into clouds, and it allo"s ice'articles to ru! against each other, thus resulting

in a thunder sno"storm.

Ash (co$prehending it: Oh, okay. Thanks.

Siara: 7o 'ro!lem. Well, see you guys later.

Ash: See you.

(Serena puts the Pokepilot away, #ut 2ust then,

they hear the chi$e!Serena: + guess "e !etter go get them.

(Ash gets up ro$ his seat!

Ash: 5ang on, Serena. Let me go get them or us.

Serena: Oh, okay.

(.e goes up to the ront desk, where urse oy iswaiting with Pikachu and the other Poke*alls!

4oy: All your Pokemon are "ell/rested and ready togo.



Ash: That#s good.

Pikachu: Pika, Pika.

(Pikachu 2u$ps o+ the tray & onto Ash0s shoulder,while Ash takes the rest i his Poke*all and puts

the$ #ack on his #elt!

Ash: 5ey, 7urse 4oy, do you mind i + !ring Serena#sPokeBalls to her mysel(

4oy: O course not. 6o right ahead.

Ash: Thanks.(.e picks up Serena0s Poke*alls, goes #ack o'er to

the #ooth & hands the$ o'er to her!

Ash: 5ere you are, Serena.

Serena: Thanks, Ash. That "as really nice o you.

Ash: 7o 'ro!lem.

(She takes the$ ro$ Ash and puts the$ #ack in

her #ag! Ash looks out the window and sees that

the stor$ has died down a #it, #ut it0s still co$ing

down and the wind0s still #lowing hard!

Ash: Boy, it#s going to take a "hile !eore thestorm lets u'.

Serena: eah. What do you say "e go getsomething to eat(

Ash: Sure.



("hey get ro$ their #ooth and head o'er to the

#u+et! -nce there, they each get a plate & tray!

Ash gets so$e cheesy #readsticks, onigiris,

lasagna and snickerdoodles, while Serena getsso$e sweet rolls, onigiris, spaghetti & $eat#alls

and regular #readsticks! "hey lea'e the #u+et and

head #ack o'er to their #ooths! Ash place his tray

down, gets out a can Poke$on ood or Pikachu out

o his #ag, pours so$e into his hand and gi'es it to

hi$! ow, Ash & Serena start eating!

3itwicks0 heads, which grow #igger with each one

they a#sor#!

4oy: As you can see, they#re a!sor!ing the energyrom these Pok@mon#s nightmares and are hel'ingthem slee' !etter.

Ash (concerned & wondering: Okay, !ut "on#tthey take more o their lie energy once they "akeu' and take them to the 6host World(

4oy: 7o need to "orry a!out that. They#)e !eentrained to not do that to any Pokemon or 'eo'le.

Ash (co$prehending: Oh. Well, that#s good.

4oy: *mm/hmm, it is.

(ust as they e4it the roo$, one o the 3itwick tries

to lea'e with the$, #ut oy turns #ack and 3itwick

stops it in its tracks!

4oy ('ery sternly & authoritati'ely: 1on#t e)enthink a!out it.

other two! ow, we cut #ack out to the $ain

Serena: All right, then. What else(

Ash: Another time, during our ad)enture in theOrange +slands, "e had an encounter "ith a ghost



shi' "hen Team ocket tried to steal the OrangeLeague cu'.

Serena: *y goodness.

(ow, we pan as he goes on a#out it dissol'e to an

hour and a hal later, where we see the stor$ has

let up and the entire city is co'ered in 7'etosi4

inches o snow, #ut it re$ains an o'ercast! Cut

#ack to the inside o the Center!

Serena: Whoa, those "ere some really cra-y stu0

you did.

Ash: eah, and +#m sure there#ll !e 'lenty more inthe uture.

(.e looks out the window and sees it0s stopped

snowing & all the snow co'ering the ground!

Ash: Well, it#s fnally let u'. ou ready to head tothe Saari &one(

Serena: e'.

Ash: All right, then.

("hey each go a changing roo$ and put on their

winter coats, glo'es & #oots! ow, they e4it the

roo$s, pick up their #ags, lea'e the Poke$onCenter and head on o'er to the Saari 9one!

:o$ents later, they arri'e at the destination and

head inside, where the new ;arden, 3oren%o,

awaits the$! .e has #rown hair, sapphire #lue



eyes, a #rown $ustache and is wearing a park

unior$ and #lack loaers!

Loren-o: Aternoon, you t"o. 5o" are you !oth

doing(

Serena: We#re doing "ell, thanks.

Loren-o: Oh, good. Wasn#t that a strange stormthat came through(

Ash: +t certainly "as.

Pikachu (agreeing: Pika/chu.Loren-o: Any"ays, + take it you#re here or a )isit(

Ash: ou !et "e are.

Pikachu: Pika/chu.

Loren-o: 2ery "ell, then. (6ery seriously! 4ustremem!er to ollo" the rules, or else.

Ash (con7dently: 1on#t "orry. We "ill.

(.e gets out a #ucket ull o saari #alls and a

couple o 7shing rods! "hey take the$ and start

#ack outside!

Loren-o: 5ang on a second. ou#ll need these.

(.e hands the$ each a pair o snowshoes!

Serena: Okay, thanks.



(ow, we dissol'e to the$ #ack outside, at the

$ain entryway, where 3oren%o opens up the

gates!

Loren-o: ou t"o ha)e a good time no".

Serena: Oh, "e "ill.

("hey enter into the Saari 9one and the gate

closes #ehind the$! -nce inside, they see herds

o Stantler and Saws#uck eating lea'es o+ o low

hanging tree #ranches or #ushes, a couple o

<ogoats head#utting into each other, a Rhyhornusing its horn to dig through the snow and get to

the grass and o'er #y a pond, so$e *i#arel are

taking reuge in a lodge=da$ ro$ a pack o

:ightyenas, while others are trying to end the$

o+ ro$ their ho$e!

Ash: Boy, they#re really going all out o)er there.Serena: eah, you said it. 5o" long do you thinkthey#ll !e at it(

Ash: Who kno"s( *ay!e or hours.

(As they continue on through, they take notice o a

pride o Pyroar huddled around, keeping each

other war$! "hen, they see an E$olga trying tokeep a young aru$aka war$, while also

protecting it ro$ a large Staraptor!

Serena: 5ey, "ould you look at that(



Ash: eah. +t must really care a!out that1arumaka.

Serena: *mm/hmm. +#m really en;oying "hat +#m

seeing so ar.

Ash: That#s good. There#s 'lenty o more like thisto come.

Serena: Okay, good.

(ow, we wipe to $o$ents later, where they are in

another part o the Saari 9one!
