Session 6 Fully lengthen the posterior line of body from heels to skull • Free the buttocks of pain and maximize leg rotation • Improve gait and foot fall • Improve position and function of scapulas • The somatopsychic theme is doing and identity Session 7 • Maximize the length of the cervical spine and neck Free the head and neck from the chest Release cranial sutures Release facial bones and muscles Release mouth roof/floor and tongue Release pulls on the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) The somatopsychic theme is identity and doing (voicing emotions) Sessions 8, 9, 10 are the integrative sessions where all of 1 through 7 come together. This is the time of optimal client awareness of self, self in space and movement through body-mind connection. It is the time for practitioner and client to complete an environment that supports learning, respect and compassion through teamwork. Client design of sessions and active partici- pation is essential in these sessions. The main goal of 8,9,10 is to maximize structure and function of legs, pelvis, spine, chest, shoulders, neck and head. As you can see, the CORE Myofascial Structural sessions are very specific, well laid out and goal orientated. They are progressive by nature meaning that one session will lead into the next and so on. The body is unwound in a specific goal, problem area or injury site. CORE MYOFASCIAL BODYWORK CORE Myofascial Bodywork is a specialized, certified system of deep, connective tissue bodywork designed to access and make changes to the deepest layers of tissue in the body. Its foundation extends back to early “body-mind” theories from such notables as Reich, Jung, Freud and Perls. These theories were then put into healing, hands-on massage and bodywork applications maily through the efforts of early touch pioneers; the Esalen Institute of California and Ida Rolf’s School of Structural Integration in Boulder, Colorado (both still in existence). Body-mind bodywork – also called somatopsychic bodywork – states that whatever input influences the mind will also influence the body and visa-versa. The body system most affected by external and internal input is the connective tissue system. The connective tissue system consists of seven different types of tissue. The type most addressed by CORE Myofascial Bodywork is the fascia and is more popularly known as myofascial tissue (myo = bone). It is the all-encompassing tissue that wraps the body, then the muscle, integrates into the muscle and then becomes the tendon, the ligament, wraps the bone and then becomes the bone. Fascia also fills in spaces, wraps vessels, nerves, the lymph vessels, organs, stablizes organs and bones and determines the structure and movement of the body. Without fascia humans would be piles of skin on the ground unable to move or stand… unable to exist. POINTS TO REMEMBER ABOUT FASCIA • Deep fascia is the bedding for the sensory nervous system • Fascia encloses muscle and expands and contracts with muscle movement • Fascia can maintain an expanded or contracted status • Fascia regulates blood and lymph circulation • Fascia connects body segments and is responsible for ease of movement between these segments • Fascia is the tissue that trauma first resides in. The “buck stops here.” • Fascia tightens and shrinks to support an injured, weakened area just like an ace bandage • Fascia that is chronically tight and thick precludes further injury, lessons movement, encourages infection and illness • Fascia aside from trauma will thicken from overuse and/or underuse • Fascia is the lining of the spinal cord • Fascia wil thicken with advanced age in order to protect the body from injury • Fascia will thicken with negative thoughts of fear and anger CORE is a trademarked name.
