Over the past week we have had a very high number of students absent each day due to a variety of illnesses. Students who have a medical cer- tificate to stay at home will be supported to learn from home in line with regular procedures if the student is able to (recorded as ‘F’). These regular procedures are different to what was offered during the “learning from home” period. If parents or carers require work to be provided to children whilst they are at home due to an underlying health condition they should contact their child’s teacher for assistance with this as well as planning for their return to school. For day to day absences the Department does not expect teachers to provide an additional learning platform. Students who have an occasional day off school to recover from a cold or flu should rest and recover. Assessment tasks can be caught up with and completed upon return to school. To support families who may still be “learning form home” the Department has released the following supports: https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/learning-from-home/ learning-at-home/learning-packages SUCCESSFUL STUDENTS Kindergarten had an excellent day on Friday celebrating everything about the Letter “P”! Congratulations to all the students and their teachers for making a Literacy focused activity so much fun. I saw plenty of perfect participation and a plethora of princesses, panthers, pirates and Pikachu’s. AUDIT OFFICE OF NSW This week the school has been interviewed by the AUDIT OFFICE OF NSW in relation to school closure procedures relating to the COVID -19 pan- demic, bushfires and flooding events. I am pleased to report that we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback around the school’s response to each of these events.

SCHOOL SPORTS UPDATEThis week our school is investigating whether or not it is feasible for us to hold a school Athletics Carnival next term without parental spectators. The guidance from the Department stipulates the following rules:

From June 11 – June 30 sport and physical activity programs will continue to focus on non-contact sports. Inter-school sport competitions such as zone sport, state wide competitions and knockouts, gala days or inter-school carnivals are not permitted. School carnivals such as athletics, cross country and swimming car-nivals are not permitted. Full contact and semi-contact sports are not permitted. From 1 July all school sport and physical activity program may resume in alignment with relevant health restrictions.

Tomorrow afternoon the Brisbane Water PSSA are holding a meeting to determine if there will be a ZONE PSSA Athletics carnival during Term 3. We will keep everyone updated via our Facebook page, once we have further advice.

NEW ENROLMENT PANELUnder the latest Departmental policy relating to the enrolment of students, all NSW public schools are re-quired to form an enrolment panel. The panel consists of a convenor nominated by the Principal, a staff representative and a parent representative selected by the P & C. The Principal cannot be on the enrolment panel as they are required to review any appeals to a decisions made by the enrolment panel. The Point Clare Public School enrolment panel is headed by Mrs Young and she is supported by the Assistant Principals and a representative from the P & C – to be advised. The panel only meets to consider potential non-local enrolment applications when the school has available places.

ASSET MANAGEMENTOur long awaited playground designs will be installed this coming Wednesday 24 June. The day will begin with the installation of two chessboards in the Library COLA area and then a large number of designs will be installed down under the Hall COLA. This will mean that the bottom playground will be out of bounds for the day. Bus lines will be assembled under the Library COLA and walked out to their respective buses by the duty teachers.

Unfortunately, the removal of the demountable building has been delayed until this Friday 26 June. To ensure the safety of all students, staff and contractors on site, the bottom playground will be closed from 8:25am until the end of the school day at 2:55pm. This will not have an impact on Before or After School Care but the Kindergarten children who have been playing in this area of a morning will have to move to the Library COLA. If the process is delayed we will advise any changes via Facebook and Skoolbag.

TEACHER PROFESSIONAL LEARNINGThis week our staff are learning how to use the Prowise presenter software through our interactive whiteboard supplier Electroboard. The Prowise software is a replacement for the Smart Notebook that many teachers use every day. Next Wednesday, our executive team will be learning all about the new school planning require-ments for our next school strategic plan. Pending any further COV-ID 19 restrictions we hope to be able to invite community members into the school during Term 4 to help develop this next plan.

OPPORTUNITY CLASS TESTSIf you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2021, you need to apply between Tuesday 9 June 2020 and Friday 26 June 2020. You will need to access the online application at:

A warm hello to everyone!

Our enthusiastic new team is eagerly awaiting the opportunity to get back to running fundraising activities at the school in the second half of this year. Please keep checking the newsletter and our Facebook page for updates as we will need volunteers to help at these events. It’s a great way to meet others from the community while doing something to support our school.

School Banking is also hoping to return in Term 3 – watch this space for further updates!

NEXT GENERAL MEETING

7:30pm on Wednesday 12 August (Term 3)

P&C General meetings are held during school terms on the 2nd Wednesday of every month at 7:30pm. You do not need to be a member to attend. We hope that with the continued gradual easing of restrictions we will be able to return to conducting these meetings at the school next term.

Our meetings aim to run no longer than 2 hours and are the best way to gain insight into current and upcoming events at the school. Our group is centred on inclusivity. We value and respect the diverse experiences and perspectives our community have to offer.

You can join our association anytime. Membership is just $1 for the year. Forms can be obtained via the front office, at our meetings or via email.

As a community we have strength in our combined knowledge and experience. We are always looking for more volunteers to join our various P&C teams. It doesn’t have to be a regular commitment. Any time you can spare is valued.

At present these roles are still available:

- ASSISTANT BANKING COORDINATOR VOLUNTEERS (X2)

- COMMITTEE POSITIONS (CANTEEN / UNIFORM SHOP)

Please email us if you are interested in filling in any of the above positions.

Our email is: [email protected]

Select ’Like’ on our Facebook page for P&C event dates, updates and communication:

I look forward to working together with you. Thank you for your continued support.

LOST PROPERTY & LABELLING

The blue cabinets near the Canteen contain lost items. They are separated according to the type of item.

Please label your child/ren’s school items so they can find them easily. We have set up a fundraiser with the label company ‘My Name Label’ which has great reviews and free postage. Ordering as part of our

fundraiser will provide you with a 5% discount and the P&C will receive an awesome 15% of all purchases made – which will go right back to funding things for our kids!

Use code: PCPS0515

The ‘My Name Label’ company sells all kinds of name labels suitable for clothing, lunch boxes etc.

Please ensure that you have your child’s first AND last name on their labels.

All items are cleared from Lost Property at the end of each term.

$$ GRANTS $$

Grants are usually available throughout the year for a variety of areas. We need your help with finding and (if possible)

applying for them.

So if you see anything that you think that any area of our school may be eligible for, please contact us.

The more eyes and ears out there looking for grants or competitions, the more chance we have of getting much

needed funding for our school and the services that support it.

Thank you, Grant Writing Team
