what is a rhyme?

words that have the same sound

Example:

The tiny bird in the tree

what is rhythm?

Rhythm in poetry is a pattern created with long and short,soft and loud, weak and strong sounds

Example:

She drank from a bottle called DRINK MEAnd grew so tall.

She ate from a plate called TASTE MEAnd down she shrank so small

What is a simile?a figure of speech in which things are

comparedusing the words “as” or ‘like”

Example:

The surface of the water looked as smooth as glass.

What is a metaphor?

a figure of speech in which things are compared by stating that one thing is

another

EXAMPLE:

“The clouds are cotton balls in the sky.”

what is alliteration?

the repetition of words with the same beginning sound

EXAMPLE:

a figure of speech in which objects are given human qualities

EXAMPLE:

What is repetition?

the repeating of a word or phrase to add rhythm

EXAMPLE:

Crunch, crunch went the potato chips in my mouth

Whack! Was the sound the ball made when it came into contact with the

Snake scales slithered against the treeRain sprinkled on frosty grass

The sun drifting behind snow capped mountainsCrickets singing in the night

a cool midnight breezeAnd me

Imagining it all.

The deck sighed with relief at the removal of the heavy book

The eggs stared back at me, pleading with their eyes to not eat them

A centipede won an awardsurrounded by hundreds of fans

Though his speech only lasted a minuteIt took hours to shake all his hands

My fingers are like littleWorms coming out of their holes.

My teeth are as white as the winter snow.My heart is as cold as a snake’s blood

I live in a phone and eat electrons

They said come skating;They said it’s so nice.

They said come skating;I’d done it twice.

They said come skating;It sounded nice...I wore roller-

They meant ice

Two boxes met upon a roadSaid one unto the other,“If you’re a box,And I’m a box,Then you must be my brother.Our sides are thin,We’re cavin’ in,And we must get no thinner.”And so two boxes, hand in hand,Went home to have their dinner.
