A Poem Is A Little Path

A poem is a little pathThat leads you through the trees. It takes you to the cliffs and shores,

To anywhere you please.Follow it and trust your wayWith mind and heart as one, And when the journey's over, You'll find you've just begun.

PUMPKINS ON GUARD

by Charles Ghinga, from "Halloween Night"

Look at all the pumpkin facesLighting up so many places. On the porch and in the yard,Pumpkin faces standing guard.Looking friendly, looking mean,With a smile or with a scream.Orange faces burning brightIn the cool October night.

WITCH WAY

With warts on her noseAnd sharp pointy toes,

She flies through the night on her broom. With covers pulled tightIn the shadows of night,

I hide in the dark of my room.

THE BEE POEM

by Charles Ghinga, from "Tickle Day: Poems by Father Goose"

A poem is a busy beeBuzzing in your head.

His hive is full of hidden thoughtsWaiting to be said.

His honey comes from your ideasThat he makes into rhyme. He flies around looking forWhat goes on in your mind. When it's time to let him out

To make some poetry,He gathers up your secret thoughts

And then he sets them free.

I Wrote an Awful Poem

I wrote an awful poem; it was bad in the extreme. I showed it to my sister

and it made my sister scream.

I gave it to my mother and she promptly flipped her lid.

My father blew a gasket, and my baby brother hid.

I brought my poem with me when I came to school today. My teacher nearly fainted

and my friends all ran away.

I never knew a poem could be such amazing fun,

but that was such a blast,I think I'll write another one.

My Father Looks Like Frankenstein

My father looks like Frankenstein, my mom looks like Godzilla,

my brother looks like Dracula, my sister, Vampirella.

My family is the scariest in this entire city.

I really can't explain how I turned out to be so pretty.
