Nellie
Ballad
I walked up and down the rows
I stopped and looked into her cage
She lay upon a little bed
My heart began to fill with rage
How can someone leave this thing?
With big eyes so brown
As I should and watched her there
I knew I could no longer frown.
I knew right then and there
That she was the one for me
She wagged her tail and winked her eye
Now I just needed everyone else to see.
I called them over and pointed her out
As they came near she rolled to her belly
They were not so sure that she was the one
But in the end she became our Nellie.
Poetry with an Erasure
Such Great Heights
By: the Postal Service
I am thinking it's a sign
That the freckles in our eyes are mirror images
And when we kiss they're perfectly aligned
I have to speculate
That God himself did make
Us into corresponding shapes
Like puzzle pieces from the clay
True, it may seem like a stretch
But its thoughts like this that catch
My troubled head when you're away
When I am missing you to death
When you are out there on the road
For several weeks it shows
And when you scan the radio
I hope this song will guide you home
They won't see us waving from such great heights,
"Come down now", they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away,
"Come down now", but we'll stay...
I tried my best to leave
This all on your machine
But the persistent beat it sounded thin
Upon listening
And that frankly will not fly
You will hear the shrillest highs
And lowest lows with the windows down
When this is guiding you home
They won't see us waving from such great heights,
"Come down now", they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
"Come down now", but we'll stay...
They won't see us waving from such great heights,
"Come down now", they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away
"Come down now", but we'll stay...
(They won't see us waving from such great heights,
"Come down now", they'll say
They won't see us waving from such great heights)

Allegory Poem
The sun had gone down
The stars finally visible
The moon full of light
As they all sleep in their beds
She cries and watches the stars
Lying in the grass watching she dreams of being free
Soon the sun is creeping back
The mountains begin glowing
The stars slowly disappear into the light sky
The moon is now a faint shadow against the blue
She begins to drift away
The once again life is full and bright
She can now sleep peacefully
She is finally free
Something
Free Poem
Time stops
Everyone stands still
Life doesn’t move
Only for a second until it starts
The temperature drops
The sun hidden behind a cloud
Hiding from mans imperfections
Rain starts to pour
The sky is crying
Saddened by the lack of love
The violence and pain
Crying for change
Good Bye
Lyric Poem
Never wanted to feel this way
Never wanted to hate you
Through cries and good times
And pain and lies I stuck beside you
But now that I see we aren’t who we used to be
I see we are too different to be happy
With tears in my eyes I write this good bye
To a life a friendship that can no longer thrive
As much as it hurts to say good bye
I know we can’t keep up the lies
As I continue through life
You will never leave my mind
Andrew Latreille
Acrostic poem
A special person
Never knows what to do
Do you know how much he needs my help?
Really wish he knew
Everything so I wouldn’t have to help him
Wish he wasn’t so slow
Leaves his stuff every where
Another thing I have to do for him
Try to teach him but he never learns
Rocket power was his favorite show
Eventually it went of air
It made him sad
Lions are his passion
Loves his stuffed lion sleeps with it every night
Even though he is slow let’s not let him read this
Birds
Haiku
(1) Birds flying around
High in the sky soaring free
Wings open happy
(2) Chirping happily
Everywhere flowers blooming
Singing songs of spring
(3) High up in the air
Wind blowing between their wings
Birds live happily
Renga
I awoke with fright.
The monsters coming at night
Were soon in my bed.
They scratched and bit at my legs,
They growled at me viciously.
I tried to beat them,
But they simply would not flee.
They devoured me.
But then something queer occurred;
Each monster became a bird.
They flew round my head,
Their wings flapping so loud;
Feathers were flying.
Then my head became a pear.
The birds nibbled near my hair.
Then the birds were wolves,
Howling at the midnight moon.
Oh, how their teeth gleamed!
Suddenly, my room transformed.
We were standing on the moon.
This moon was different.
Not white and gleaming like milk;
Technicolor blasts
Yes, this moon was rather strange;
At this point I was quite dazed.
Everything would shift,
Everything kept flying fast;
A kaleidoscope.
And then I started flying,
The monster-bird-wolves behind.
I stared down below,
At the land so dark and bleak;
A single tear shed.
I felt like I was crazy;
Infinitely amazing,
To put it in words,
And things were still changing.
The monsters fell fast; dead.
I kinda missed them.
At least I felt more normal.
I stood in front of a throne.
Well, there goes feeling normal
The king came to me and said,
“What are you seeking?
Why do you stand before me?
What made you float here?”
“Well, I thought this was a dream.
You mean to tell me it’s not?”
And then the king laughed,
“This is your life now,
strange and confusing.
You must be here to be blessed
With wisdom to carry on.”
“Wisdom? What wisdom?
I’m certainly smart as is,”
I answered him back.
“Sure, but what is your destiny?
Something must be wrong in life,
People do not come here
Unless their soul needs repair
You must be broken.”
“I suppose I am not whole.
Please, give me guidance.”
“You must be the saint
The saint inside of yourself
You must learn freedom,
But, you must learn on your own,
Because you lead your own soul,
No one can take it
And don’t take that for granted
Learn from living life.”
His insight inspired me.
Life was now changed forever.
I ventured back home.
Monsters no longer followed.
Slowly, I drifted.
But his words played in my head,
His utter brilliance shined,
And as I floated,
Back to my reality,
I found my purpose.
See, the monsters were the past.
The negative things, of course.
Slowly, I started
To let go of yesterday.
Starting fresh, I guess.
You can’t let the past weigh down
What might happen in the now.
The king had taught me
To live each day as your last,
And never look back
But it was never the king.
It had always just been me.
The Doctors
Free poem 2
The clock counts down to my turn
My thoughts are filled with concern
I’m unaware of what this will bring
So I nervously play with my purse string
What will I do when they call my name?
I try to calm down and just stare at the window frame
Every time the door opens my heart skips a beat
I hate sitting in this hot seat
I hope everything goes well
I guess I shouldn’t dwell
I have been dreading this appointment
I hope it doesn’t end in disappointment
I start to head for the door
Then I heard my name and swore
Looks like it too late to run away
This better not make for a bad day.
It Ain’t You by Squirrel Nut Zippers
I've been searchin' all over for someone
I can tell my troubles to
Searching all the wide world over
Is it you?
Is it you?
Are you the kind of man that marries,
Then gets his mind on somethin' new
You've got to let me know, I'm all alone
Is it you?
Is it you?
Is it you, baby?
Is it you?
I confide in you
You seem to understand my point of view
I moan and sigh
You can't understand why
Can't understand why
I confide in you
You seem to understand my point of view
I moan and sigh
You can't understand why
Can't understand why
I've been searchin' all over for someone
I can tell my troubles to
Searching all the wide world over
Is it you?
Is it you?
Is it you, baby?
Is it you?
