We are going to read a poem. Do you know what a poem is?• Elements of poetry:

– imagery, – diction, – sound, – metaphor, – theme, – saying something new

Imagery:

• the idea that an image, presented on its own.

Diction: choice of words

• uses the least number of words to finish the task,

• each word is important and must be chosen as the exact word

Metaphor is a comparison between two things :• help us see something in a new or more

meaningful way • E.g.

The moon tonight is full and bright.

The stars are shining high.

A falling star flies before my eyes.

I make a wish as it goes by.

The darkness creeps

But it’s time to sleep.

I say “ Goodnight “ to the sky.
