PARCA Status• CReSIS Visited in August
Duerr and Weaver visited CReSIS in August Tentative verbal agreement that NSIDC will house the low level
radar data collected over Greenland (joint effort of DAAC andACCESS grant)
Also discussed inclusion of high level products on NSIDC webpages and in our catalog as brokered products

Science-Data Liaison
Data sets for consideration by PoDAG will bediscussed at the meeting
PoDAG 27: Highlights Presentation October 15-16, 200826
Engineering related items of interest
• Proposing to add following data to ECS AVHRR polar collection Passive Microwave collection We are studying this option to see if we can more
effectively manage these data within ECS withoutdegradation of services
• Possible move of our ECS computing facility to adifferent CU building. “return on investment” study will be conducted, once
we confirm CU is actually going to make spaceavailable to us
• ECS/EMD (see following slide)• NON-EOS/ECS (see following slide)
PoDAG 27: Highlights Presentation October 15-16, 200827
EOS/ECS Topics• ECS/EMD upgrades completed
7.21 install of software completeo Code reduction and simplificationo Removal of EDG valids for data ordering
• ECHO/WIST transition We are now operating with the centralized metadata
warehouse at GSFC for access to our data. Thissystem replaces the EDG.
• Data Pool access is via the data pool web interfaceor direct FTP access
• ECS/EMD planned upgrades Increase in RAID space so that all data can be on-line
o Rotating disk archive with LTO tape backup
PoDAG 27: Highlights Presentation October 15-16, 200828
NON-EOS/ECS Topics• Non-ECS system upgrades
Virtual server environment purchased and in testing RAID capacity increased, means that a good portion of
our data holdings are now on an FTP site• NSIDC’s Search-Light Development (separate
presentation at meeting) Quick search, retrieval, display, and delivery. Simple to use interface for cryospheric data. Access to all NSIDC data. Provide data in user specified format. Allow users to display and interact with data. Create a a standard & flexible framework for new
applications.
