Performances will be at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1 and Saturday June 2 in Benzaquen Hall at the Dimenna Center, 450 West 37 th St, NYC. The opera will be performed in English with J. Machlis’s translation. In 'La voix humaine,' a monodrama by Francis Poulenc with a libretto by Jean Cocteau, a woman makes the phone call that will change her life forever. The opera explores the relationship between humans and technology– whether it threatens to choke off the connection between one other. How are we left to interpret the silences in between the words? In the end where do we stand with our voice and who we are? About the Artists Paul Peers, Director Paul Peers has directed theatre and opera, including Händel’s Serse and Amadigi di Gaula for Grammy nominated Boston Baroque, and Mozart's La Finta Giardiniera at the Alexander Kasser Theater, New Jersey. New York credits: Blue Balloon by award winning playwright, Libby Leonard at the New York Theater Workshop, and the U.S. premiere of Shadowboxing by James Gaddas, Love is in the Air Pig Brooch Inc, and Tennessee Williams’ Talk to Me Like the Rain and Let Me Listen. He has also directed in Australia and Germany. Paul was artist in residence at 3 Legged Dog Art and Technology Center to develop an opera about Mata Hari collaborating with composer Matt Marks. Upcoming engagements include Little Shop of Horrors at the Adelaide College of Arts, Australia.

Alan Hamilton, Music Director Collaborative pianist Alan Hamilton has been featured at concerts and festivals around the world. He was a fellow with San Francisco Opera’s Merola Program and at the Tanglewood Music Festival, under the baton of James Levine in the American staged premiere of Carter’s What Next?. Mr. Hamilton has prepared singers for the New York Philharmonic’s performance of Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre under Maestro Alan Gilbert, and has served on the staff of Opera Company of Philadelphia, the Spoleto Festival USA, the International Vocal Arts Institute in Israel and Virginia, the American Lyric Theater, and Pocket Opera of New York. Lyric soprano Carrie Hennessey’s performance of the title role in the West Coast Premiere of Tobias Picker’s opera Emmeline, earned her a nomination in the 2010 Bay Area Broadway World Awards. Opera credits include Mimi (West Bay Opera), Cio-Cio San (Livermore Valley Opera) Hanna in The Merry Widow (Townsend Opera Players). Known for her concert appearances, she debuted with the Modesto Symphony Orchestra in Mahler’s 4th Symphony on only one day’s notice. 2011/2012 engagements include her European debut at the International Mahler Festival in Prague, with the Mozart Mass in C minor, Mahler’s Ich bin der Welt, Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 for Voice and Eight Cellos, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Carmina Burana, Mozart Requiem, and the Dvorak Requiem.

Carrie was the soprano soloist at the Mendocino Music Festival for Stravinsky’s ballet Pulcinella and with the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra in Hector Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 for Voice and Eight Cellos. Joel Yapching, Costume Designer

Phillipine born designer Joel Yapching launched his menswear line in 2009, BOOK homme and was featured on Mode TV. His Spring/Summer 2012 NY Fashion Week presentation for BOOK homme was a collaboration with Pocket Opera of New York, presenting a runway version of Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria. Joel has designed costumes for off-Broadway shows including Orestes, Wonton Destruction, as well as costumes, hair, and makeup for films and music videos. As Visual Director for PONYmobile, Yapching designed Le pauvre matelot and Apollo e Dafne + Monteverdi Madrigals. Upcoming projects include costumes for Manhattan School of Music’s La Calisto.
