Dr. Gerson’s career includes:o Founder and Head of the Biotechnology Department at the Alberta Research Council, a 15,000 L biotechnology pilot and CMO facility.o VP vaccine manufacturing operations of Connaught Laboratories in Canada, oo VP R&D Apotex Fermentation Inc., Winnipeg.o Founder and 1st General Manager, Guangdong Blue Treasure Pharmaceuticals, Quingyuan, China. 1993.oo Managing Director for Manufacturing at Wyeth-Lederle Vaccines and Pediatrics in New York. Responsible for half the vaccine supply for the US and process development and commercial production of the 1st conjugate vaccine for pneumonia (Prevnar) and the rst Meningococcal-C conjugate vaccine.oo VP Manufacturing and Development at Acambis, Inc., developed and manufactured 300 million doses of a new cell-culture based Vaccinia vaccine for Smallpox.oo President and COO of Celltrion, Inc., a manufacturer of mammalian cell produced protein biopharmaceuticals with more than 180,000 L of capacity located in Incheon, Korea, the rst biologicals facility in Asia to be licensed by the US FDA, supplier of the BMS biopharmaceutical Orencia, and producer of a number of biosimilars.oo He has been responsible for producing most types of commercial vaccines for US, Canadian and worldwide distribution.o He has over 90 papers and 5 patents in various areas of biotechnology.
Dr. Gerson is Founder, President and CEO of both PnuVax, Inc. and PnuVax SL Biopharmaceuticals, Inc., developers and manufacturers of vaccines, located in Montreal, Canada. PnuVax, Inc. is dedicated to the development of low-cost vaccines for underserved populations worldwide and is the recipient of signicant grant funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Gates Foundation.
Dr. Gerson is also a Founder and COO of SaudiVax Ltd, a vaccine manufacturing and distribution company located in Saudi Arabia that was recently awarded a $50 Million grant to set up the rst full scale vaccine manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Gerson received his PhD from McGill University, taught biophysics and biochemical engineering at the University of Western Ontario in Canada, and was a Member of the Basel Institute for Immunology at Hoffmann LaRoche in Switzerland, where he worked for Prof. Niels Jerne, winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1984.
