What a beautiful start to summer in the Land of Pur-

ple Trees! Just shows you what a little love, in the

form of water for them, can do!

Our June show at the Faulkner got off to a bit of a

rocky start due to construction issues but 129 pieces

made their way in and juror Ray Hunter selected 75

to be hung. The show is beautiful in its choices,

curating, and represents the use of 13 different media

and many different themes. We should be very

proud of the wide range of creative spirits that our

membership represents. The Jurors Choice Award

went to Rex Kochel. Memorial Awards went to Sal-

ly Hamilton to honor Virginia Butterfield and Mi-

chael Mead to honor Roz Nordli. A third Award

went to Francis Reighley. Honorable Mentions

went to Mureen Brown, Helena Hill, Jane Hurd,

Tomi Murphy, and Rick Osgood. I was sorry I felt

I had to cancel the First Thursday reception due to

the construction but SBAA will donate the money

we would have spent to the FoodBank for their No

Child Hungry program.

Our next Ingathering will be for Semana Nautica at

the Cabrillo Pavilion Arts Center. Susan Price, who

noticed that the Semana Nautica website didn’t men-

tion the art show, has been working with them to

bring more attention to the show and our contribu-

tions. With large cash prizes the competition will be

fierce. Ralph Waterhouse will be the juror, and do

remember that this show is open to all artists so in-

vite your artist friends to enter. See you on Tuesday,

June 27th! We will have postcards for you to hand

out to your friends and family to promote the show.

This show is the first time we will use our new

award ribbons that are now for First, Second, and

Third places plus honorable mentions rather than the

Juror’s Choice and green award ribbons we used in

the past.

The August shows will be here before you know it

so start looking at your options. August 1st at the Ca-

brillo Pavilion Arts Center (a 2 month show), August

2nd at the Faulkner Gallery (a 1 month show), Au-

gust 12th at 1919 State (a 3 month show), and the

Jewish Community Center on August 31st that runs

until October 25th. Full details are on Page 1 of the

newsletter or check the website. Thanks to Jacqui,

you will always receive timely email activity alerts!

It’s time to start reminding your friends who are not

members that our Fall ingathering for New Members

will be held on Monday, September 25th at the

Faulkner. Give them time to pull together their best

work! Full details can be found on our website or in

our small green brochures that you can pick up at

our ingatherings or at Gallery 113.

We are firming up final details for the art show we

are organizing in conjunction with the Acoustic Mu-

sic Celebration at the end of August. Full infor-

mation will be sent to the membership soon.

A final request from me regarding phone calls to the

SBAA number 963-1026, that rings into my mobile

phone. I have been receiving an increasing number

of robo calls so, if you call on SBAA business and I

don’t answer the phone, please leave a voice mail

message so that I know to return your call. My

home phone is also listed in the directory – no ro-

bocalls there.

Have a sweet and inspirational summer!
