    NETWORK CONFIGURATIONS

    6) Hierarchical PNMS configuration

Central and Regional PNMS can be configuredas shown in the figure to the right. RegionalPNMS monitors and controls PASOLINKs (up to500 NEs) in its region. Central PNMS monitorsand controls all PASOLINKs (up to 2,000NEs) inall regions (up to 10 regions). It is considered analternative configuration o Parallel PNMS Each NE is monitored and controlled by bothCentral and Regional PNMS. It means that evenif Central PNMS is down, each Regional PNMScan monitor and control NEs in its monitoredand controlled region. In a similar way, if a regional PNMS is down, thecentral PNMS can monitor and control NEs

under the region where the regional PNMS isdown.(The logging dat , performance monitor data and network

configuration dat are not synchronized between th central

PNMS and Regiona PNMS. Central PNMS has som

    restriction of the function.)

    7) Upper Management Interafce

In order to make NEC's PASOLINK/PASOLINK+

equipment an integral part of an uppermanagement system, an optional SNMP

interface is provided with the PNMS. Theinterface is based on SNMP 1 and resides onthe same PC as the PNMS. The detailed controland data gathering are performed by the PNMS.The summarized alarm traps (Summary SNMPtrap such as Group of NE summary trap or NEsummary trap) are sent to upper managementsystem through this interface. As uppermanagement system receives summary trapsfrom PNMS, the operator needs to access thePNMS for the detail.

In addition, as each PASOLINK/ PASOLINK+

also has SNMP interface in itself, eachPASOLINK/ PASOLINK

    +is directly accessible

from upper management system if required.

The interface to the upper management isUDP/IP with Ethernet interface. 10BASE-T isassumed for LAN interfarce.
