1. Your pharmaceutical drug manufacturing project is running late and you
have deadlines to meet on your project. You want to replace some of the
inefficient human resources with more talented human resources to finish
the project on time. What risk response strategy is being followed in this
context?
A. Share
B. Accept
C. Transfer
D. Mitigate
Hint: You are trying to reduce the likelihood of the risk occurrence.
Sample PMP® Exam Question
The correct answer is D
Explanation: This is an example of risk mitigation. By replacing
the human resources you are reducing the probability of the
risk.
Answer and Explanation
2. You are performing the Plan Risk Responses process for your manufacturing project
and encounter a critical risk that may have a high impact on the project completion. All
of the following are valid responses to this new risk except?
A. Allocating Contingency Reserves
B. Developing Fallback Options
C. Conducting Bidder Conferences
D. Reviewing Risks Driven by Strategies
Hint: A fallback plan is used when a primary response plan proves to be inadequate.
Sample PMP® Exam Question
The correct answer is C
Explanation: Conducting bidder conferences is not a
strategy used in Risk Management. All other answer
choices are valid risk responses.
Answer and Explanation
3. Which of the following Enterprise Environmental Factors does not influence the
Estimate Activity Durations process?
A. Duration Estimating Databases
B. Project Management Information Systems
C. Productivity Metrics
D. Published Commercial Information
Hint: All of the given choices are valid Enterprise Environmental Factors but which one of them
is not relevant to the Estimate Activity Durations process?
Sample PMP® Exam Question
The correct answer is B
Explanation: All of the given choices are valid Enterprise
Environmental Factors. However, the Project
Management Information System will not influence the
Estimate Activity Durations process. We do use project
management software for scheduling (Scheduling Tools)
during the Estimate Activity Durations process but we
do not use the Project Management Information System.
Conceptually, these two software applications are
different and perform different functions. However, you
can find a software application that performs both of
these functions, e.g. Microsoft Project. For the actual
PMP Exam you must remember that these two software
applications are different and perform different
functions, i.e. one is for reporting and one is for
scheduling.
Answer and Explanation
4. You are managing a hardware design project in India with locally trained engineers
but your client is based in the U.S. You are unable to meet your client face-to-face
and you cannot talk to your client on the phone because of the different time zones.
Instructions are sent via email but there is a communications breakdown and your
team fails to understand the messages. What is causing this issue?
A. Poor message encoding
B. Poor message decoding
C. Noise
D. Medium
Hint: You are faced with a language problem between native and non-native English speakers.
Sample PMP® Exam Question
The correct answer is C
Explanation: This is an example of noise. The PMBOK Guide
defines noise as "Anything that interferes with the
transmission and understanding of the message (e.g. distance,
unfamiliar technology, or lack of background information)".
In this case the "noise" is the fact that your team members
who are local to India do not speak English as well as your
customer. This interferes with the understanding of the
message.
Answer and Explanation

Department. Which of the following illustrates this information?
A. Work Breakdown Structure
B. Organizational Breakdown Structure
C. RACI Chart
D. Resource Breakdown Structure
Hint: A welder is a resource. The project manager wants to see all welding resources in a
hierarchical format.
Sample PMP® Exam Question
The correct answer is D
Explanation: A Resource Breakdown Structure is a hierarchical
structure of resources broken down by resource category and
resource type.
