Industry news 7 Filtration+Separation September/October 2014 RWL Water provides mobile water treatment systems for US nuclear power plants Sonitec-Vortisand opens Dubai office RWL Water is supplying 16 skid mounted mobile water treatment systems to Pooled Equipment Inventory Co (PEICo), which operates an inventory sharing program for US nuclear power plants. PEICo, which has been providing a shared inventory service to meet the emergency and non- emergency needs of the nuclear industry for more than 30 years, manages two regional response centres near Phoenix, Arizona and Memphis, Tennessee. These centres are capable of delivering emergency and non-emergency response equipment to an affected facility within 24 hours of an extreme event. The multimillion dollar order was secured following a collaborative effort from RWL Water teams located in the USA and in Israel. The systems are evenly split between 500 GPM mechanical filtration systems and 250 GPM Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) treatment systems. The skid mounted mobile water treatment systems were custom- engineered around the M1N aircraft container dimensions and weight limits. This allows the systems to be easily transported by both fixed and rotary wing aircraft, as well as by truck if necessary. www.rwlwater.com www.pooledinventorymanagement .com Canada-based Sonitec-Vortisand Inc has set up a subsidiary and new office in Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The affiliated company will be led by regional sales manager Nikhil Bhatia. “Opening our Dubai office marks an important step in our growth and our ongoing expansion as a company,” said Marco Bosisio, general manager at Sonitec- Vortisand. “This subsidiary will allow us to intensify our presence in the region with the appointment of a MENA territory manager, Mr Nikhil Bhatia, as well as facilitate our growth and future needs should they include the creation of an assembly plant locally in JAFZA when the volume and market demand justify it.” Sonitec-Vortisand designs and manufactures a unique cross- flow microsand submicron filtration system for industrial water polishing. The Vortisand filter, installed in 2500 sites around the world, is an automatic backwashable microsand filter combining cross-flow dynamics and microsand filtration. Sonitec- Vortisand currently exports 85% of its production outside Canada. www.sonitec.com PMFG wins Skimovex orders UOP membrane system selected for North Sea FPSO vessel BW Offshore will use Honeywell’s UOP LLC technology to remove contaminants from natural gas aboard a new Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel off the coast of Scotland. The vessel, which will be leased to Premier Oil, will include a UOP Separex Membrane System to remove carbon dioxide. This will be the first FPSO in the North Sea to use the membrane-based treatment system. UOP guard bed adsorbents will also be used to remove mercury and hydrogen sulfide. These contaminants must be removed to meet export and end-user specifications, and to protect downstream equipment. Scheduled for start-up in 2017, BW Offshore’s FPSO will be located approximately 125 miles east of Aberdeen, in the Catcher oil field. It will have a processing capacity of 60 000 barrels of oil per day and a storage capacity of 650 000 barrels. www.uop.com PMFG Inc has been awarded two contracts, together worth US$3.7 million, for Skimovex oily water separation systems. Both contracts are scheduled to be completed before June 2015. The Skimovex systems are for two new offshore oil production platforms in the Persian Gulf and in the South China Sea. The Skimovex oily water technology is used to remove oil from water, such as refinery effluent, tankfarm drainwater, ballast water, desalter effluent, condensate, cooling water, produced water (both on- and offshore), tank draw-off and injection water. “Our sales efforts related to identified Skimovex opportunities has become a material part of our operations in both Europe and Asia Pacific,” said PMFG CEO Peter Burlage. “Driving the growth in the opportunities are increasingly stringent requirements for discharge water purity in combination with greater water volumes produced by the oil and gas industry. We expect this trend will continue in the future and drive incremental demand for our Skimovex product line. He is also a member of the advisory boards of the Pictet Water Fund, Emefcy Ltd, ClearCove Systems Inc and Advanced Mem-Tech Ltd.
