Paul Carrack arose to prominence in the mid-1970s as the frontman and principal songwriter of Ace, and gained further recognition for his work as a solo artist and for his tenures as a member of Roxy Music, Squeeze and Roger Waters' backing group, The Bleeding Heart Band, intermittently handling lead vocals on Squeeze and Waters recordings. From the mid-1980s to the late 1990s, he enjoyed considerable success as the co-frontman (with Paul Young) and a songwriter for Mike + The Mechanics. Carrack sang some of his affiliated bands' best-known hits, including Ace's "How Long?"; Squeeze's "Tempted"; and Mike + The Mechanics' "Silent Running", "The Living Years" and "Over My Shoulder

Paul Carrack has never been more in the public eye after a string of radio friendly singles from his latest studio album ‘Rain Or Shine’. He’s constantly out on the road, whether as part of Eric Clapton’s backing band, or on one of his own extensive tours. The next leg of Paul’s UK tour starts this autumn and includes a special concert at the Palladium in London with special guests Nick Lowe and Andy Fairweather Low.

There is continuity in the presence of producer/mixer/engineer Drew Brown, who was a key member of the team during the making of Penny Sparkle, and who made a number of telling suggestions along the way this time around. It was Drew who persuaded the band to head out to Key Club Recording in Benton Harbour, Michigan, where they encountered an amazing trove of vintage synthesisers – it was, in Kazu's words, "analogue heaven." When Blonde Redhead formed back in 1993 – initially a quartet, but, from 1995 onwards, the indivisible trio of Italian / Canadian twin brothers Amedeo and Simone Pace and Japanese sometime art student Kazu Makino – their music was obscured by their associations with post-No Wave art noise. The name was taken from a song by Arto Lindsay's short-lived band DNA and back then, these references suggested a band just out of step with fashion, doomed innocents stumbling into an inhospitable post-grunge landscape. But they're still here. And after 21 years it's suddenly obvious that Blonde Redhead have never made records for fame, or for money, or to ape their teenage heroes, or to indulge any of the dumb, ephemeral impulses that clog up the blogosphere with dumb, ephemeral music. They're making music, simply, because they have to. From the opening title track of Barragán, where acoustic guitars sway lazily alongside the flute-like tones of a Chamberlin synthesizer, it’s obvious that these songs breathe. The melodies occasionally flirt with folk music; outdoor sounds, including a suite of field recordings that Drew made in London’s Kew Gardens, are woven gently into the mix; and there is the odd moment where the band lets down their guard and leave a charming imperfection in the finished article. This lost gem of an album is a wonderful addition to the Spiro collection, demonstarting how their unique and fascinating sound began, and how fresh it remains after 17 years.

Spiro have been together, their line-up completely unchanged, for over 20 years. That probably doesn't come as a surprise to those who've heard the four musicians in action: completely in tune with one another, there's no ornamentation to attract attention to one particular instrument. In fact, there's that feeling that each member of the band isn't just playing that instrument, they're playing the whole thing. This is what Spiro refer to as "the mesh", the locked-in ensemble sound that's a relentless, wonderfully overpowering assault on the eardrums.

With their second and third albums (Lightbox and Kaleidophonica) released on Real World Records - both receiving rave reviews - it seemed fitting to complete the set and re-release Spiro's very first album, Pole Star, which originally came out in 1997.

Produced by Kris Drever and recorded by Lau’s sound engineer Tim Matthew, Mareel EP features a great team of Shetland musicians. Graham Malcolmson on double bass, Margaret Scollay piano, Maurice Henderson and Ewen Thomson fiddles and Ross Couper fiddle and snare drum. Éamonn Coyne plays banjo and tenor guitar and Kris Drever guitar but also adds the drums on the songs. Born in Orkney (but for more than a decade a resident of Edinburgh) Kris Drever moved to Shetland early in 2014 and his beautiful new surroundings have certainly inspired and infused these new recordings which follow up the duo’s five star rated (BBC Music Magazine Album of the Month) ‘Storymap’ (2013).

Taking its title from the local Shetland cinema and arts centre where the music was recorded with a cast of local musicians, ‘Mareel EP’ features a new version of Drever’s song ‘Wintermoon’. The duo set out on a UK tour in September 2014 including London’s Kings Place and of course Mareel. Award-winning English roots vocalist, Naomi Bedford releases her second album - A History of Insolence - on which she explores songs of freedom, dissent and strife.

Born in Putney in the 1970s, Naomi was taught folk songs as a 6 year old by her mother and began playing guitar from age 11. "As a teen" she adds: "I wanted to be in a girl band singing folk and country based songs. At that time those genres were unpopular with my peers. I tried to force my love of Shirley Collins and Hedy West on to all my potential band mates, staying up till the early hours playing them three of four versions of the same song, enthusing about the exciting storytelling and history they contained. But it was to no avail until I met Lisa Knapp whilst doing a college course in English. We began playing and writing songs together in our late teens and we also busked Tom Paley and Everly Brothers songs regularly."

In 2011 Naomi released the award-winning album of murder ballads 'Tales from the Weeping Willow'. On that album, after a chequered journey through travel, motherhood and dance music, Naomi returned to her first love of roots, folk and country music to great acclaim; appearing at Celtic Connections, Cambridge and Sidmouth Folk Festivals and achieved regular airplay across BBC National and Regional radio. The new album, 'A History of Insolence', assembles another cast of exceptional musicians and guests (including Justin Currie, Alasdair Roberts and Jackie Oates) and features an impeccable selection of new and old songs that examine Insolence - the very wellspring of all social and political songs.

"I have a history of political activity" she continues " I was the Artist Liaisons person for the Artists Against The Poll Tax and an organiser in the Anti Poll Tax movement. I also helped organise the Hyde Park rally and demonstrations (my boyfriend during this period was the Scottish political activist Tommy Sheridan). Also Paul is well known for his political songwriting in The Men They Couldn't Hang. So songs of insolence come naturally to both of us."

In Louisiana music is an important part of daily life. And in Arcadiana it's a compulsion. Often a whole family play and are ready to entertain themselves and their neighbours when the mood takes them. It's got something to do with the ancestors. The first significant arrivals - in 1755 - were French-speaking Acadians, from Nova Scotia who brought their musical traditions with them.

Fast forward to the 20th century. The first accordion-based Cajun records were recorded in 1929. Things changed with the advent of amplified instruments. Black bands in Texas added a contemporary edge to the tradition, calling it 'zydeco'. But Louisiana, of course, is famous also for Blues and R&B and no Swamp compilation would be complete if those styles were left out.

The groove of the 70s dancefloor jazz made an impact on the Finnish jazz scene and the track 'Grandma's Rocking Chair' is viewed as a highlight of that era. Featured on the original pressing in 1976, the track was picked up by legendary US house producer Kenny Dope when he sampled the track for his record 'The Illout'. Most likely the track was taken from a "Finnish Jazz 66-75"-bootleg album.

Born 6 August 1949, Olli Ahvenlahti is a Finnish pianist, composer, and conductor and has been one of Finland's leading Jazz artists since the 70s. He has recorded with several artists including UMO Jazz Orchestra. There was a small group of very talented jazz musicians in Finland during the 70s, of which Ahvenlahti was one of the key players. His band consisted of the cutting-edge musicians of that decade, including Markku Johansson, Bertil Strandberg and Pekka Pöyry.

The LP version is manufactured in Japan in our new, improved, super high quality sleeves and replicates the original 1976 release exactly.

In 1970, Tully had the Australian music world at their fingertips. They formed in late 1968, after a large section of hardworking R'n'B show band Levi Smith's Clefs broke away to focus on more adventurous material. By early '69 they'd become easily the most hyped band in the nation, feverishly acclaimed for their towering rock dynamics and extended flights of jazz-inspired improvisation.
