Preliminary measures

1.Alwayswearsturdy,non-slipfootwearandlongtrouserswhenmowing.Nevermowbarefootorinsandals.

2.Checkthegroundsonwhichthemachinewillbeusedandremoveallobjectsthatcouldbecaughtupandviolentlyflungoutofthechute.

3.Warning:Petrolishighlyflammable!Therefore:-Onlystorepetrolincontainersdesignedtoholdpetroleum-basedliquids.-Onlyrefueloutintheopenanddonotsmokeduringtherefuelingprocess.-Alwaysrefuelthelawnmowerbeforestartingtheengine.Alwaysensurethatthefueltankcapisclosedwhentheengineisrunningandwhenthemowerishot;alsodonotrefuel.-Ifpetrolhasoverflowed,donotunderanycircumstancesattempttostarttheengine.Instead,removethemachinefromtheaffectedarea.Avoidstartingtheengineuntilthepetrolfumeshavecompletelyevaporated.-Forsafetyreasons,thepetroltankandothertankclosuresmustbereplacediftheyaredamaged.

4.Replacedefectivemufflers.

5.Beforeusingthemower,visuallyinspectittoensurethattheblade,mountingboltsandtheentirecuttingapparatusareingoodworkingorder(i.e.notwornoutordamaged).Topreventanyimbalance,replacewornoutordamagedbladesandmountingboltsasasetonly(ifapplicable).

9.Switchoffthelawnmowerandensurethatthebladehasstoppedrotatingwheneverthemowerhastobetiltedfortransportingoverareasotherthanlawnsandwheneverithastobemovedfromortotheareayouwanttomow.

10.Neverusethelawnmowerifthebladeorsafetygrillesaredamaged,orwithouttheattachedguards,e.g.deflectorsand/orgrasscatchingdevices.

11.Donotadjustoroverclocktheenginespeedsettings.

12.Releasetheenginebrakebeforeyoustarttheengine.

13.Starttheenginewithcare,inaccordancewiththemanufacturer’sinstructions.Makesurethatyourfeetarefarenoughawayfromthemowerblade!

14.Donottiltthelawnmowerwhenyoustarttheengineunlessthemowermustraisedoffofthegroundalittleinordertostartit.Inthelattercase,tiltthemoweraslittleasabsolutelynecessaryandonlyraisethesideoppositetothatoftheuser.

15.Neverstarttheenginewhilestandinginfrontofthechute.

16.Neverputyourhandsorfeetnearorunderanyrotatingparts.Keepclearofthechuteopeningatalltimes.

17.Neverliftorcarryalawnmowerwiththeenginerunning.

18.Switchofftheengineandpullthesparkplugboot:-beforeyoudislodgeanyblockagesorclogsinthechute.-beforecarryingoutanychecks,cleaning,maintenanceorotherworkonthelawnmower-ifthelawnmowerstrikesaforeignbody,examineitforsignsofdamageandcarryoutanynecessaryrepairsbeforerestartingandcontinuingtoworkwiththemower.Ifthelawnmowerbeginstoexperienceexceptionallystrongvibrations,immediatelyswitchitoffandcheckit.

19.Switchofftheengine:-whenyouleavethelawnmower.-beforeyourefuel.

7.Ifthefueltankshouldrequireemptyingthisshouldonlybedoneintheopenairwhereitisadvisabletouseapetrolsuctionpump(availablefromEinhellUK-call01516491500).

Thepetrollawnmowerisintendedforprivateusei.e.foruseinhomeandgardeningenvironments.

Privateuseofthelawnmowerrefersanannualoperatingtimegenerallynotexceedingthatof50hours,duringwhichtimethemachineisprimarilyusedtomaintainsmall-scale,residentiallawnsandhome/hobbygardens.Publicfacilities,sportinghalls,andagricultural/forestryapplicationsareexcluded.

Please note that our equipment has not been designed for use in commercial, trade or industrial applications. Our warranty will be voided if the machine is used in commercial, trade or industrial businesses or for equivalent purposes.

Theoperatinginstructionsassuppliedbythemanufacturermustbekeptandreferredtoinordertoensurethatthelawnmowerisproperlyusedandmaintained.Theinstructionscontainvaluableinformationonoperating,maintenanceandservicingconditions.

5.1 Assembling the components

Assembly

1.Takethemowerandattachmentpartsoutofthepackagingandcheckthatallpartsarepresent(Fig.2).

2.Affixthelowerpushbar(Fig.3a/Item5)tothemowerhousingandsetthedesiredworkingheight.3differentworkingheightsareavailable.Eachpegonthelowerpushbarcanbeinsertedintoaholesituateddirectlyoppositetoit,onthemowerhousing,forexampleA-A(Fig.3).Thelowerpushbarmustbeequallyadjustedonbothsides.Nowaffixthecover(Fig.3a/Item20)andattachthepushbar(5)usingthesquareheadscrews(14)andthestarknobs(17)asshowninFigure3a.

3.Fastenthetoppushbartothebottompushbarusingalevercamscrew(Fig.3b/Item15)andastarknob(Fig.3b/Item17)oneachside.Makesurethatthelobesofthelevercamscrewsarefoldedtowardstheinsidesothatthehighspeedclampingfunctionremainsoperational.

4.Insertthegripofthestartercord(Fig.3c/Item4)intothehookprovidedforthatpurposeasshowninFigure3c.

5.Fastenthecordstothepushbarwiththesuppliedcableties(Fig.3d/Item.12).

6.Lifttheejectorflap(Fig.4/Item7)withonehandandhookinthegrassbagasshowninFigure4.

5.2 Setting the cutting height

Important! Adjust the cutting height only when the engine is switched off and the plug boot has been pulled.

-Beforeyoubegintomow,checktoensurethatthebladeisnotbluntandthatnoneofthefastenersaredamaged.Topreventanyimbalance,replacebluntand/ordamagedbladesasasetonly(ifapplicable).Tocarryoutthischeck,firstswitchofftheengineandpullthesparkplugboot.

-Thecuttingheightiscentrallyadjustedwiththecuttingheightadjustorlever(Fig.7/Item8).Upto5differentcuttingheightscanbeselected.

5. Before starting the equipment

5.1 Assembling the components

Somepartsofthelawnmowerneedtobeassembled.Forquickandeasyassembly,readandfollowtheinstructionsbelow.

Important!Youwillneedthefollowingadditionaltools(notsupplied)forassembly,andalsoformaintenancework:

•Aflatoildriptray(forchangingtheoil)

•A1litremeasuringjug(oil/petrolresistant)

•Apetrolcan

Assembly

1.Takethemowerandattachmentpartsoutofthepackagingandcheckthatallpartsarepresent(Fig.2).

2.Affixthelowerpushbar(Fig.3a/Item5)tothemowerhousingandsetthedesiredworkingheight.3differentworkingheightsareavailable.Eachpegonthelowerpushbarcanbeinsertedintoaholesituateddirectlyoppositetoit,onthemowerhousing,forexampleA-A(Fig.3).Thelowerpushbarmustbeequallyadjustedonbothsides.Nowaffixthecover(Fig.3a/Item20)andattachthepushbar(5)usingthesquareheadscrews(14)andthestarknobs(17)asshowninFigure3a.

3.Fastenthetoppushbartothebottompushbarusingalevercamscrew(Fig.3b/Item15)andastarknob(Fig.3b/Item17)oneachside.Makesurethatthelobesofthelevercamscrewsarefoldedtowardstheinsidesothatthehighspeedclampingfunctionremainsoperational.

4.Insertthegripofthestartercord(Fig.3c/Item4)intothehookprovidedforthatpurposeasshowninFigure3c.

5.Fastenthecordstothepushbarwiththesuppliedcableties(Fig.3d/Item.12).

6.Lifttheejectorflap(Fig.4/Item7)withonehandandhookinthegrassbagasshowninFigure4.

5.2 Setting the cutting height

Important! Adjust the cutting height only when the engine is switched off and the plug boot has been pulled.

-Beforeyoubegintomow,checktoensurethatthebladeisnotbluntandthatnoneofthefastenersaredamaged.Topreventanyimbalance,replacebluntand/ordamagedbladesasasetonly(ifapplicable).Tocarryoutthischeck,firstswitchofftheengineandpullthesparkplugboot.

-Thecuttingheightiscentrallyadjustedwiththecuttingheightadjustorlever(Fig.7/Item8).Upto5differentcuttingheightscanbeselected.

-Pulltheadjustorleveroutandselectthedesiredcuttingheight.Theleversnapsintothedesiredposition.

6. Operation

Note:Fordetailedinformationontheengine&oil,refertotheenclosedmanualfromBriggs&Stratton.

Important.Theenginedoesnotcomewithoilinit.Therefore,besuretoaddoilbeforestartingtheengine.Theoillevelintheenginemustbecheckedeachtimebeforemowing(seetheBriggs&Strattonmanual).Youwillalsoneedtofillthefueltankwithpetrol,asthisisalsonotsuppliedupondelivery.

Inordertoavoidanyunintentionalstart-upsofthelawnmower,itcomesequippedwithanenginebrake(Fig.5a/Item1)whichmustbepulledbackbeforetheenginecanbestarted.Whentheenginecontrolleverisreleaseditmustreturntoitsinitialposition,atwhichpointtheengineautomaticallyswitchesoff.

Youcancontroltherotationspeedofthebladeusingthespeedlever(Fig.6).

Beforeyoustartmowing,youshouldrunthroughthisoperationseveraltimesinordertoensurethatthemachineisworkingproperly.

Wheneveryouneedtoperformanykindofadjustmentand/orrepairworkonyourlawnmower,waituntilthebladehascometoacompletestop.

Alwaysswitchofftheenginebeforecarryingoutanyadjustments,maintenanceorrepairs.

Note:1.Enginebrake(Fig.5a/Item1):Usethelevertostoptheengine.Whenyoureleasethelevertheengineandthebladestopautomatically.Tomow,holdtheleverintheworkingposition(Fig.5b).Beforeyoustarttomow,checkthestart/stopleverseveraltimestobesurethatitisworkingproperly.Ensurethatthetensioncablecanbesmoothlyoperated(i.e.isnotcatchingorkinkedinanyway).

3. Caution:Thebladebeginstorotateassoonastheengineisstarted.Important:Beforeyoustarttheengine,movethemotorbrakeseveraltimestobesurethatthestopcableisproperlyworking.Note:Theengineisfactorysettoaspeedthatisoptimalforcuttingandblowinggrassintothecollectionbagandisdesignedtoprovidemanyyearsofuse.

4.Checktheoillevel.

5.Fillthetankwithpetrolwhenitisempty,usingafunnelandmeasuringvessel.Makesurethatthepetrolisclean.

Note:Useonlyunleadedpetrolasfuel.Warning: Neverusemorethanonesafetypetrolcan.Donotsmokewhenrefueling.Switchofftheenginebeforerefuelingandallowtheenginetocooldownforafewminutes.

To Start the Engine

6.Ensurethattheignitioncableisconnectedtothesparkplug.

7.Presstheredprimerbutton5times(Fig.10).

8.MovethespeedlevertotheHare setting(Fig.6).

9.Standbehindthemower.Placeonehandontheenginestart/stopleverandpullthebarstogether(Fig.5aFig.5b).Placetheotherhandonthestarterhandle.

10.Starttheengineusingthereversingstarter(Fig.3c/Item4).Todothispullthehandleapprox.10–15cm(untilyoufeelaresistance)andthenstarttheenginewithasharppull.Iftheenginedoesnotstart,pullthehandleagain.Thiscouldtakeupto10pulls.

Important!Neverallowthestartercordtosnapback.

Note:Incoldweather,itmaybenecessarytorepeatthestartingprocessseveraltimes.

11.WhentheengineisatworkingtemperatureitcanbestartedintheTortoise setting(Fig.6).

MulchingInthemulchingmodethecuttingsareshreddedintheenclosedmowerhousingandthenspreadbackontothelawn.Itisnotnecessarytogatheranddisposeofthegrass.

Important:Mulchingisonlypossibleifthelawnisrelativelyshort.Optimumresultscanbeachievedonlywithamulchingblade(availableasanaccessory).Tousethemulchingfunction,removethegrasscollectionbag,slidethemulchingadaptorintotheejectoropening(Fig.5d/Item19)andclosetheejectoropening.

Side ejectorYoushouldfitthemulchingadaptor(Fig.5d/Item19)inordertousethesideejector.Connectthesideejectoradaptor(Fig.5e/Item18)asshowninFigure5e.

6.1 Before mowing

2.Inspecttheblade.AbladethatisbentordamagedinanyotherwaymustbeimmediatelyexchangedforagenuineEinhellreplacementblade.

3.Donotfillthefueltankindoors,butratheroutintheopen.Useafillingfunnelandameasuringjug.Wipeoffanyspilledpetrol.

4.Readandfollowtheinstructionsintheoperatingmanualaswellastheinformationregardingtheengineandaccessoryequipment.Storethemanualinaplacewhereitcanbereadilyaccessedbyotherusersofthemachine.

5.Exhaustgasisdangerous.Onlystarttheengineoutintheopen.

6.Makesurethatalltheguardsarefittedandthattheyareingoodworkingorder.

7.Themachineshouldonlybeoperatedbypersonswhoarewellinformedwiththewayitworks,andwhoareinreasonablygoodphysicalcondition.

8.Itcanbedangeroustomowthegrasswhenitiswet.Trytoensurethatyouonlymowthegrasswhenitisdry.

6.2 Tips for proper mowing

Alwayscarefullyfastenthechuteflapandcollectionbag.Switchofftheenginebeforeemptyingthecollectionbag.

Alwaysensurethatasafedistance(providedbythelengthofthelonghandles)ismaintainedbetweentheuserandthemowerhousing.Beespeciallycarefulwhenmowingandchangingdirectiononslopesandinclines.Maintainasolidfootingandwearsturdy,non-slipfootwearandlongtrousers.Alwaysmowalongtheincline(notupanddown).

Forsafetyreasons,thelawnmowermaynotbeusedtomowinclineswhosegradientexceeds15degrees.Usespecialcautionwhenbackingupandpullingthelawnmower.Trippinghazard!

6.3 Mowing

Onlyuseasharpbladethatisingoodcondition.Thiswillpreventthegrassbladesfromfrayingandthelawnfromturningyellow.

Trytomowinstraightlinesforanice,cleanlookininsodoing,themowingswathsshouldalwaysoverlapeachotherbyafewcentimetersinordertoavoidbarestrips.

Keeptheundersideofthemowerhousingcleanandremovegrassbuild-up.Depositsnotonlymakeitmoredifficulttostartthemower;theydecreasethequalityofthecutandmakeitharderforthemachinetobagthegrass.Alwaysmowalonginclines(notupanddown).Slightlyturningthefrontwheelsupthehillwhilemowingwillassistthemowerinproducingastraightline.Selectthecuttingheightaccordingtothelength

Important:Mulchingisonlypossibleifthelawnisrelativelyshort.Optimumresultscanbeachievedonlywithamulchingblade(availableasanaccessory).Tousethemulchingfunction,removethegrasscollectionbag,slidethemulchingadaptorintotheejectoropening(Fig.5d/Item19)andclosetheejectoropening.

Switchofftheenginebeforeinspectingtheblade.Keepinmindthatthebladecontinuestorotateforafewsecondsaftertheenginehasbeenswitchedoff.Neverattempttomanuallystoptheblade.

Regularlychecktoseeifthebladeissecurelyattached,isingoodconditionandissharp.Ifthecontraryisthecase,sharpenthebladeorreplaceit.Intheeventthatthebladestrikesanobject,immediatelyswitchoffthelawnmowerandwaitforthebladetocometoacompletestop.Theninspecttheconditionofthebladeandtheblademount.Replaceanypartsthataredamaged.

Tips for proper mowing:

1.Payattentiontoensurethatyoudonotrunintooroveranythingthatcoulddamagethemower.

Thelawnmowercouldbedamagedand/orthemachinecouldinflictbodilyinjury.

2.Ahotengine,exhaustordriveunitcanburntheskiniftouched.Thus,donottouchthesepartsunlessthemowerhasbeenswitchedoffforsometimeandyouknowthattheyhavecooleddown!

3.Useextracautionwhenmowingoninclinesandsteepgrades.

4.Donotusethemowerifthedaylightorartificiallightlevelsareinsufficient.

5.Checkthemower,thebladeandotherpartsiftheyhavestruckaforeignobjectorifthemachinevibratesmorethanusual.

6.Donotmakeanyadjustmentsorrepairsuntiltheenginehasbeenswitchedoff.Pulltheplugbootoffthesparkplug.

7.Payspecialattentionifyouaremowingdirectlynexttoastreetorareclosebyone(traffic).Alwayskeepthegrasschutepointedawayfromthestreet.

8.Avoidmowinginplaceswherethewheelshavetroublegrippingormowingisunsafeinanyotherway.Beforeyoubackup,ensurethatnobodyisstandingbehindyou(especiallylittlechildrenandpetswhoaremoredifficulttosee).

6.4 Emptying the collection bag

Assoonasgrassclippingsstarttotrailthelawnmower,itistimetoemptythecollectionbag.Important!Beforetakingoffthegrasscollectionbag,switchofftheengineandwaituntilthebladehascometoastop.

Totakeoffthegrasscollectionbag,useonehandtoliftupthechuteflapandtheothertograbontothegrasscollectionbaghandle(Fig.4).Removethegrasscollectionbag.Forsafetyreasons,thechuteflapautomaticallyfallsdownafterremovingthegrasscollectionbagandclosesofftherearchuteopening.Ifanygrassremainsintheopening,itwillbeeasiertorestarttheengineifyoupullthemowerbackapprox.1metre.

Donotuseyourhandsorfeettoremoveclippingsinoronthemowerhousing,butinsteadusesuitabletoolssuchasabrushorahandbroom.Ensurethatboththeengineandthebladearestoppedbeforeattemptingtoremoveclippingsanddebris.

Inordertoensurethatthemajorityofgrassclippingsarepickedup,theinsideofboththecatchbagandespeciallytheairgrillmustbecleanedaftereachuse.

Re-attachthecatchbagonlywhentheengineisswitchedoffandthebladeisstopped.

Usingonehand,liftupthechuteflap,whilegrabbingontothegrasscollectionbaghandlewiththeother.Hookonthegrasscollectionbagfromthetop.(seeFig.4).

6.5 After mowing

1.Allowtheenginetocoolbeforeyouputthelawnmowerinanenclosedarea.

2.Removegrass,foliage,greaseandoilbeforestoringthemower.Donotplaceanyobjectsontopofthemower.

3.Checkallthescrewsandnutsoncemorebeforeyoustarttousethelawnmoweragain.Tightenanyloosescrews.

4.Alsobesuretoemptythegrasscollectionbag.

5.Pullthesparkplugboottopreventunauthorizeduse.

6.Ensurethatyoudonotparkthemowernexttoanysourceofdanger.Petrolfumescanleadtoexplosions.

7.Onlyoriginalpartsorpartsapprovedbythemanufacturermaybeusedforrepairs(seec).

8.Ifthelawnmowerisnotgoingtobeusedforanextendedperiod,emptythepetroltankusingapetrolsuctionpump.

9.Tellyourchildrennottousethemower.Itisnotatoy.

10.Neverplacepetrolnearanignitionsource.Alwaysuseacanthatisapprovedtostorepetrol.Keeppetrolawayfromchildren.

11.Oilandmaintainthemachine.

7. Cleaning, maintenance, storage, transport and ordering of spare parts

Important:TheenclosedenginemanualfromBriggs&Strattonprovidesmaintenanceinformationandmaintenanceintervalinformationontheengine.

Important:Neverworkonortouchconductingpartsontheignitionunitwiththeenginerunning.Alwayspullthesparkplugbootfromthesparkplugbeforestartinganycleaningormaintenance.Neverperformanyworkonthemachinewhileitisrunning.AnyworknotdescribedintheseOperatingInstructionsmustbeperformedbyanauthorizedserviceworkshoponly.

7.1 Cleaning

Aftereachuse,themowershouldbethoroughlycleaned(especiallytheundersideandbladereceptacle).Note: Beforeyoutiltthelawnmowerontoitsside,emptythefueltankcompletelywithapetrolpump.Thelawnmowermustnotbetiltedmore

than90degrees.Thesimplesttimetoremovedirtandgrassisdirectlyaftermowing.Driedresidualgrassanddirtcouldcausedamagetothemowingoperation.Makesurethegrassejectorcanalisfreefromresidualpiecesofgrassandremovetheseifnecessary.Nevercleanthemowerwithadirectjetofwaterorahighpressurecleaner.Themotormuststaydry.Aggressivecleaningagentssuchascoldcleaningsolventorpetroleumethermustnotbeused.

7.2 Maintenance

7.2.1 Wheel axles and wheel hubs

Theseshouldbelightlygreasedonceaseason.Todoso,removethewheelcapswithascrewdriverandslackenthefasteningscrewsonthewheels.

7.2.2 Blade

Forsafetyreasonsyoushouldonlyeverhaveyourbladesharpened,balancedandmountedbyaserviceworkshop.Foroptimumresultsitisrecommendedthatthebladeshouldbeinspectedonceayear.

Changing the blade (Fig. 8)Onlyeveruseoriginalsparepartswhenhavingthebladereplaced.Themarkingontheblademustbematchedwiththenumbergiveninthelistofspareparts.Neverhaveanyothermodelofbladefitted.

Damaged bladesShouldtheblade,inspiteofallprecautions,comeintocontactwithanobstruction,shutdowntheengineimmediatelyandpullthesparkplugboot.Tipthelawnmowerontoitssideandcheckthebladefordamage.Damagedorbentbladesmustbereplaced.Neverattempttobendabentbladebacktostraightagain.Nevermowthelawnwithabentorheavilywornbladeasthiswillcausevibrationsandcanleadtofurtherdamagetothelawnmower.

Important:Thereisariskofinjuryifyouworkwithadamagedblade.

Resharpening the bladeThebladescanberesharpenedwithametalfile.Inordertoavoidimbalance,thebladeshouldberesharpenedbyaserviceworkshop.

7.2.1 Wheel axles and wheel hubs

Theseshouldbelightlygreasedonceaseason.Todoso,removethewheelcapswithascrewdriverandslackenthefasteningscrewsonthewheels.

Forsafetyreasonsyoushouldonlyeverhaveyourbladesharpened,balancedandmountedbyaserviceworkshop.Foroptimumresultsitisrecommendedthatthebladeshouldbeinspectedonceayear.

Changing the blade (Fig. 8)Onlyeveruseoriginalsparepartswhenhavingthebladereplaced.Themarkingontheblademustbematchedwiththenumbergiveninthelistofspareparts.Neverhaveanyothermodelofbladefitted.

Damaged bladesShouldtheblade,inspiteofallprecautions,comeintocontactwithanobstruction,shutdowntheengineimmediatelyandpullthesparkplugboot.Tipthelawnmowerontoitssideandcheckthebladefordamage.Damagedorbentbladesmustbereplaced.Neverattempttobendabentbladebacktostraightagain.Nevermowthelawnwithabentorheavilywornbladeasthiswillcausevibrationsandcanleadtofurtherdamagetothelawnmower.
