"Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed." - Mahatma Gandhi PM dedicates 35 PSA Oxygen Plants across 35 States and UTs established under PM CARES "As the demand increased, India increased the production of medical oxygen by more than 10 times": PM "Very soon India will cross the 100 crore mark in vaccination" MESSAGE Today, on this special occasion of the 21 st Raising Day of the only Operational Tri-Services Command of the Nation, it is my proud privilege and a matter of great honour that my thoughts in the form of this message are reaching out to all service personnel serving under the proud Flag of ANC. I have been fortunate to have had the singular privilege of being a CINCAN earlier and have been operationally and now administratively closely associated with the functioning of this prestigious Command. This Command unlike any other has a very unique role and task which it has been performing in a stellar manner since its inception in 2001. Besides providing a military in the Area of Responsibility, the Command has been vital in Aid to Civil Power and in sub-conventional scenarios putting its best foot forward in each crisis. The Tsunami of 2004 saw the Command taking the lead in providing succor and relief in a fine exhibition of commitment and selflessness. In recent times, the contribution of the Command towards control of the COVID-19 pandemic and evacuation of several critical medical cases from the remote Islands has been praiseworthy. I am happy to note that being at the forefront of every challenge and on every calling has become a tradition with the Command. Over the years, the Andaman & Nicobar Command has been faced with numerous challenges in all the three dimensions of Sea, Land & Air. All the challenges were surmounted in a very professional manner with seamless synergy drawing upon the inherent strength of jointness that characterizes this Quad-Service Joint Command. The recent flawless conduct of the Swarnim Vijay Varsh Flame and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in the ANI is another example of the professional character of this Command and its personnel. I feel proud to be a part of its glorious history and extol all Officers and personnel to serve with synergy and professionalism to make it a beacon for the future contours of theaterisation. May the Command achieve greater laurels and may its Flag always soar high. Best wishes and compliments to all service personnel and their families on this proud and memorable day. Banana constitutes a major share in the fruit productionof Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Among the varietiesbeing cultivated in the islands, Korangi holds a specialplace particularly in North and Middle Andaman Islands. Each bunch of this variety contains seven or morehands, each containing about 10 to 14 fruits. The fruitscould be easily distinguished from other varieties withtheir delicious, golden yellow pulp and fibrous, thickpeel. Being thick skinned, fruits have good shelf life. In general, banana fruits are notso rich in vitamin A. However, studies at ICAR-CIARI have revealed that its fruits have12.3 microgram per gram pulp of total carotenoids. In simpler terms, fruits have highervitamin A content than commercial banana varieties such as Grande Naine. Hence, itsfruits will provide additional nutritional benefits to the consumers. Plants come tobearing after 14 to 16 months of planting. Plants grow tall and are amenable forintercropping in both coconut and arecanut gardens. It is suggested to do replantingafter taking one main crop and two ratoon crops (subsequent crops from a single mat)to maintain plant vigour and yield of the crop. Removal of male flower after completeopening of female hands is beneficial for improving fruit size.Benefit: Bringing more area under Korangi cultivation could improve the availability offruits in local markets, thereby improving the nutritional security of island dwellers.Contact person with Name, Designation e-mail and phone no: Dr. Pooja Bohra, Scientist(Fruit Science), Division of Horticulture and Forestry, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair.
