The measuring principle is based on eccentric photo-retinos-copy. Infrared light is projected through the pupils onto theretina. Depending on the refractive error, the reflected lightforms a specific brightness pattern within the pupil. The sphe-rical refraction is calculated based on this crescent pattern. To determine cylinder and axis the same measurement isrepeated in three meridians. The measurement with infraredlight is completely innocuous. Infrared light is also contained indaylight and not visible.

App l i cat ionPediatric Autorefractor plusoptiX A09 is a binocular hand-held autorefractometer appropriate for infants and children. It provides reliable measurements of refraction, pupil size, interpupillary distance and eye alignment. It can also be usedto assess the accuracy of an eyeglass prescription.
Used in un-dilated pupils, measurements of hyperopia, myopia, astigmastism and anisometropia provide valuable data in a ped-iatric vision examination. Results can be used as a startingpoint for retinoscopy or to confirm retinoscopic results.
Un ique featurePediatric Autorefractor plusoptiX A09 provides three uniquefeatures:
Á measurement distance is 1 meter, i.e. 3.3 feet
Á both eyes are measured simultaneously
Á acquisition time is 0.8 seconds
These features make it a very effective tool for gathering vision data on non-verbal, uncooperative patients and children with nystagmus.
[Measurement is fully automated and can be performed by paramedical staff easily.
