What would you be doing i you werent playing

basketball?Probably working with kids somewhere. eres aprogram out here called Freedom For Youth, where

they take in lower income youth and just change theirlives through dierent kinds of activities. Its probably

    something I would do.

What pregame rituals do you have?I always get a baldy (shave my head) beforeevery game, the night before or the day of.I remember when we were heading to theshowcase (Reno, Nev.) and we were goingthrough security; I forgot I had the bottle, itspretty big, in my bag and they threw it away. I

    was devastated.

What was your welcome to pro basketball moment?

Probably my rst year out, I ran back on defense fora fast break and I jumped up to block a guy and hejust went right over my head and dunked on me. Iwas like wow, this is the real deal. Everybody herecan play, its not like college where you just have

those star players, everybody here can play.

Who is your role model? My father, he came here from Africa as an immigrantto pursue his ministry. Just knowing where he camefrom and how hard he had to work to get to where hesat right now, it motivates me, and I really look up tothat. I know where I want to be, which is the NBA,and I know how hard I have to work to accomplish

    that dream.

    What hobbies do you have?

Keeping my wife and my girls happy (Ehambe andhis wife, Sarah, have ve-month-old twin daughters),playing the drums, and helping with Freedom For

Youth. Just making a dierence in peoples lives, itsa hobby of mine; throwing camps and making kids

    smile.

    Whats on your ipod?

Christian rap, my favorite artist is Lecrae. Youstill have your hip-hop beat, but it throws a

    positive message to you.

Whats your avorite part o playing or the Energy?e crowd, theres nowhere in the D-League where the crowd isthis live and amazing. Especially last year in the nals run it was

just so packed, and the community, it was just together and they

    were all for us.

What is your avorite restaurant to eat at in Des Moines?I really enjoy the Drake Diner.

Energy star Cartier Martin (above, right) became the45th Gatorade Call-Up to the NBA when the 6-oot-7orward signed a contract with the Washington Wizardson March 28.

Liv was born in Durham, N.C. but has lived in Des Moines,Iowa since she was 12 years old. Her dancing career beganlong beore the move at the age o three.

Liv rst noticed the High Voltage Dance team when she

would attend Energy games with her amily.I always admired and would be so impressed with thedancers and all that they did at the games, said Liv. Itsparked an interest with me that I could possibly do thatone day.

She is now in her second season with the s quad and hasnothing but great things to say about the experience.

Te girls on the team are awesome, ans are incredible, andto have the opportunity to watch every game so close oncourt is denitely one o the main highlights or me, saidLiv.

Randi has been with the Energy since its inaugural

2007-2008 season, getting to Des Moines just one

week before the teams irst home game.

The Blacksburg, Va. native began her D-League

career with the former Roanoke Dazzle before the

franchise ended after the 2005-2006 season. From

there Randi moved to Boston, until the former

Dazzle owner called and asked for her assistance in

getting the ball rolling with the Energy franchise.

I was invited to come lend a helping hand for the

irst week of Energy home games (three games),

but instead ended up coming to interview for a full-

time position [on] Halloween weekend [in] 2007,

    said Randi.

Two weeks later Randi was relocating to Des

Moines, as the Energys Director of Game

Operations and Community Relations. Under the

title she is responsible for arranging, managing and

producing all aspects of entertainment that take

place within Wells Fargo Arena when the Energy

    are in town.

I also love working with the performers we bring

for halftime shows, said Randi. Theyre all such

amazing, talented individuals and groups that

travel the world, and I love that we can bring their

shows to our fans here in Des Moines.

As Director of Community Relations, Randi

was charged with the duty of building Energy

awareness and presence in the community and

maintaining it as well. (On pages 12-13 are

photos taken during just a few of the numerous

    community engagements that Randi coordinated

    during the 2011-2012 season).

I really enjoy getting to work with the local schools

and community programs that work with kids and

families, said Randi. Being able to bri ghten their

day by bringing players, dancers, and Surge to visit

    is so fun.

However, those two positions are not the only

things Randi contributes to the Energy.

During the offseason I sell [tickets, sponsorships

and advertisements], make sure we maintain a

presence in the community and attract new fans,

research new ideas for theme nights, promotions,

giveaways, marketing and also arrange donations

and team appearances, said Randi. I also

maintain the website and hire and train our

interns year-round. We (front ofice) all do a ton of

    different things.

Randi graduated from Roanoke College in Salem,

Va. with a degree in sports management.

She enjoys playing softball, bike riding, reading,

going on road trips and visiting with family and

    friends during the offseason.

    Marketing Intern

Carson is a senior in communications studies at Iowa State.Sports have always been a actor in his l ie, but basketball seemedto stick out the most.

I have always been passionate about basketball, so naturally Iwanted to continue to be around the sports aer I nished play-

Tat passion is what led Carson in to becoming an intern with theEnergy, but the 2011-12 season is not his rst stint with the team.

Carson interned with the Energy in sports marketing during t hesummer o 2011. He helped put a ace towards Energy basketballby hosting Energy events around the community and helpingEnergy All-Star Moses Ehambe with his summer camp.

Once I started interning or the team this summer, I knew Iwanted to stick around or the regular season so that I could get
