Discovering Durbs!
Day 1
After landing in Durban at King Shaka International Airport, transfer to your hotel.
Overnight at The Oyster Box Hotel
Includes: Breakfast
Day 2
Our day begins with a coastal drive heading into the city of Durban, recently voted as one of the New 7 Wonders Cities of
the world. Built on a ridge, overlooking the ocean, we visit one of the prime viewpoints in one of the oldest suburbs of this
once British colony. We then head into the city centre to explore one of the oldest and most culturally diverse areas.
With Durban having the largest Indian community outside of India, it’s no surprise that they have played a huge role in the
character and architecture of the city. The narrow lanes and arcades around Grey Street are a vibrant collection of
trading stores featuring colourful fabric, beads and homewares. The newer African immigrant populations have also
established businesses with Ghanaian, Mozambican and Nigerian shops sitting alongside their local counterparts. A visit to
the Victoria Street Market with its spices, arts and crafts as well as the nearby traditional herbal market will overwhelm the
senses and it’s a great way to interact with the locals and practise your bartering skills.
We’ll enjoy a traditional Indian lunch before heading to the ‘Golden Mile’ – a playground for locals both in and out the
warm waters. We’ll hop on a bicycle for a short ride along the promenade that runs from the harbour entrance to the river
mouth passing the World Cup soccer stadium en-route, before heading back to the hotel.

Durban · iSimangaliso Wetland Park
Day 1
Pick up at King Shaka International Airport by your guide.
Travel through rolling green sugar cane with the dramatic Indian Ocean on your left hand side as you head towards the
city of Durban for your brief orientation tour. You’ll pass by the dramatic skyline of the once quiet village of Umhlanga and
past the newly re-located business hub of Durban. We’ll have a chance to visit the Moses Mabhida World Cup soccer
stadium where you’ll enjoy panoramic views of the city and beachfront from the Skycar. We’ll travel through one of the
oldest suburbs of the city with its Victorian influenced architecture before heading to the tranquil oasis of the Botanical
Gardens in the heart of the city. We return to the hotel via the trendy Florida Road precinct with its collection of vibey
restaurants, bars and galleries.
Drop off at Lambert House for the evening, a lovely old Durban home.
Includes: Breakfast
Day 2
After breakfast we depart and drive north up the coast through varying landscapes of sugar cane and Eucalyptus forests
towards the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. En route, in a town called Groutville, we stop and visit The Luthuli Museum, a
national cultural institution charged with conserving, upholding, promoting and propagating the life, values, philosophies
and legacy of the late Chief Albert Luthuli - a very worthwhile stop!
Reach your accommodation, a privately owned safari lodge surrounded by unspoiled wilderness, vast wetlands and a
game reserve.
Overnight at Makakatana Bay Lodge
Includes: All meals and local brands drinks
Day 3
An early breakfast is served at the lodge after which guests depart the lodge to embark on an exclusive 2 hour boat trip on
the Lake St Lucia Estuary. The focus of this safari is to seek out birdlife, hippos and crocodiles on the boat and other animals
and birds in the Wetlands. After a picnic lunch and an exploration through the western shores reserve, guests then return to
the lodge for tea in the late afternoon.
