I bet by not having to attend graduation ceremonies

you all thought you’d lucked out of the hour long

speeches that come with these special events. Well

you thought wrong. I’d like to thank the teachers, the

students, the building, the lockers, Google...Just

kidding! I won’t bore you with all the thankyous as

many graduation speeches do. But I would like to

say a couple words to these special graduates. First

of all, well done! In a time where life is upside down

and unpredictable you have prevailed and finished

this race. It was told to me that half of getting a

diploma or degree is not necessarily what it is you

are getting, but that you were able to stick with it for

years and not give up. You all should be very proud

because that is exactly what you’ve done. Secondly,

I’d like to encourage you to always keep God first in

your future plans. One thing we all still have, even

when so much is being taken, is the love of our

Savior. Isaiah 41:10 says, “Fear not, for I am with

you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will

strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with

my righteous right hand”. Whatever your future

plans are I pray you always feel God’s love for you.

In times of fear and doubt I pray you feel God’s

presence and his strength he gives you. Lastly, I’d

like to leave you with something that has stuck with

me and that is, “this too shall pass”. I know, you’ve

heard it before. Usually though in the context of a

bad time in life. The bad times won’t last forever.

Which is true. But neither will the good things. What

I took away and what I hope you do too is, to not

dwell on the negatives, and the things you don’t

have or can’t control. But to also appreciate all

things beautiful, what you do have and people in

your life. This too shall pass. The one thing however

this quote does not apply to is that God’s love for

you will never pass. It is said to us in 1 Corinthians

13:8, “Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will

pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for

knowledge, it will pass away”. All things on earth,

good and bad, will one day pass. But take comfort in

knowing the one thing that will never pass and will

be with you wherever you go and whatever you plan

is God’s love for each and everyone of you! God

bless on all your future endeavors. Abbie Cornelius

“O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave”.

The last line in all four, yes four, verses of “The Star-

Spangled Banner”. Many know the first verse as our

National Anthem. Yet, so many people have never

heard the other three verses which speaks of true

courage and heroism with respect to God when it was

written in 1814. Over 200 years later the verses still

stand as an example of what means to live in a free

country because of those who have fallen while

serving. In verse three are the words, “No refuge could

save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight, or

the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner

in triumph doth wave O’er the land of the free and the

home of the brave”. I encourage you when you look at

our flag, our star-spangled banner, to remember all

those who have given their life and what it was they

felt and went through so that you can enjoy your life

how you want. Tell your kids and grandkids of those

fallen heroes in your family, remember and honor

them for all they have done and pray for the families of

those who have lost their loved ones. And lastly, I wish

for us to all take away a line from verse four, “Then

conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this

be our motto—“In God is our trust”. May we all have

our motto be, “In God is our trust” even when we don’t

always understand. Abbie Cornelius

Prayers of blessing and peace to all those with fallen heroes this Memorial Day.

A reminder the church office will be closed Monday, May 25th for observance.
