Install the latest NX software and test
• You must download the specific
Maintenance Patch for the specific
Maintenance Release.
• You can apply any new Maintenance
Release at any time but may lose
specific patches from a previous MP.
• MR’s & MP’s are cumulative – you can
go directly to the latest one of each
• Make sure NX is up to date by going to
File/Help/About NX/System Information
• Only install MP’s to fix your problems

Run the “Evaluate Graphics Performance” option
• Run the ―Evaluate Graphics Performance‖ option in
the Visualization Performance Preferences.
• This command should be run after any of the
following to take advantage of your high end
graphics card.
• New workstation
• New Graphics card
• New Graphics driver
• First time you log into a machine, each user on a
machine must run the command
• New version of NX, must be ran for each version
on machine.

Set Site wide environment variables for NX
Create customer specific environment text file.
(EX: my_company_ugii_env.dat ) and place in location below.
Set a System Windows environment variable on all machines to point to a
server environment file.
EX: UGII_ENV_FILE=Z:\Siemens\NX_10\my_company_ugii_env.dat
You now have a centralized location for NX variables. #

Install JAVA
JAVA is required for Batch translators, PTS, WAVE Relations browser, Documentation search.
• Download and install JAVA 64 bit version http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
• NX 9 = JAVA 1.7 (PTS requires 1.7)
• NX 10 = JAVA 1.8 so far I use 1.8_45.
• Download and install JAVA 32 bit for NX 9 documentation. Not required for NX 10.
• For NX9 download and install documentation patch from GTAC: NX/Product
updates/Ugdoc/NX9/Qagent.
• Insert the following 2 lines in the file customer specific environment text file (EX:
my_company_ugii_env.dat ).
• UGII_JAVA_HOME=―C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_60‖
• UGII_JVM_LIBRARY_DIR=―C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_60\bin\server‖

Setup Site customer defaults
• Add an environment variable to the ―my_company_ugii_env.dat‖ file created for environment variables.
Group defaults are also possible, see NX documentation.
• UGII_SITE_DIR=Z:\Siemens\NX_10\Site
• Create a folder called ―Startup‖ in the site directory: Z:\Siemens\NX_10\Site\Startup
• Open NX and go to File/Utilities/Customer Defaults and select the Manage settings in the top right corner.
• Select the Export defaults icon on the right and save the file up to the server location.
• For NX 9 save as Z:\Siemens\NX_9\Site\Startup\nx90_site.dpv
• For NX 10 save as Z:\Siemens\NX_10\Site\Startup\nx100_site.dpv
When migrating to a new version of NX always export from the old
NX version and then import into the new version so NX can verify settings.

Site customer defaults –
Some common settings that you should change from OOTB
Look at customer defaults ―manage settings‖ and check ―scope‖.
If the value of scope is part you must make the change to the setting in the Template parts.
Setting Value Reason
Undo File Size 4095 Maximize memory for NX
Generate Weight data Yes Automatically save weight for all parts
Load Smart Lightweight Data Yes Helps users when loading lightweight
Drafting Standard ? Sets NX to specific standard, can be customized
Show Blank Templates No Make users use templates
Use Settings from Drawing template
Use Settings from Standard
? Choose where your drafting preferences are defined

Load Smart Lightweight
Customer Defaults Assemblies Site Standard Lightweight Representations
One of the drawbacks of loading Lightweight Representations is that not
all NX commands work with lightweight data, e.g. feature creation,
assembly constraints. Every release more items are added
Options:
1. Users can manually load exact data
2. Turn on Load Smart Lightweight Data

Display Center of Rotation customer default
―Display center of Rotation‖ Customer default added in NX 9.
The default setting for NX9 is that it is turned on.
In NX 10 the default setting is that it is turned off.
The display of the center of rotation can cause slight performance delays when working with remote sessions
of NX or with low end graphics cards.

Setup PAX files and File new templates
In NX native mode you can override the standard templates by
setting the UGII_TEMPLATE_DIR
Copy the appropriate PAX files and NX templates from
%UGII_BASE_DIR%\UGII\templates to a server location.
Ex: Z:\Siemens\NX_10\Templates
Modify PAX files and NX templates to suit to companies needs
Add environment variable to the custom
my_company_ugii_env.dat
Ex:UGII_TEMPLATE_DIR= Z:\Siemens\NX_10\Templates
See documentation on PAX files and templates.
If in Teamcenter you must import templates.
PAX files should also be managed if in Teamcenter

Download Reuse library, configure and install
From GTAC download site under Machinery Library download the desired parts
libraries.
Download the Machinery-library-install-tool-2015-09-08.7z
Unzip the install tool and run MachineryLibrary-Installation.bat
This tool will install the downloaded libraries for Native or Teamcenter.
Part names and numbers can be changed in seed part
using Part Families

Configure a Site Material Library
Store custom material definitions in external MatML XML library files. Use customer defaults to control user
access to these library files, as well as to the standard NX material library.
1. Copy the OOTB material library to a server location for example
C:\Siemens\NX10\UGII\materials\physicalmateriallibrary.xml
2. In the customer defaults Gateway/Materials/Mass set the location to a
Site MatML library and restrict user control. Can also decide on other
Libraries
• Site MatML Library — A material library that all users have access to.
• User MatML Library — A material library to which only certain users are given access.
• NX Material Library — The library of standard materials (physicalmateriallibrary.xml) included with NX.
• Legacy NX Material Library — The library of standard materials (phys_material.dat) included with earlier
versions of NX.

Configure a Parts List for Drawings
Create template parts list. Right click on top left and Save As
Template
Give the template part a name, press OK and it will be saved in your
${UGII_ROOT_DIR}\table_files directory.
To set this as your default parts list template you have to add this to
your Customer Defaults. File -> Utilities -> Customer Defaults ->
Drafting -> Annotation -> Parts Lists.
If in Teamcenter you can save the template and set customer
defaults to point to the Parts list. EX: @DB/my_template/A

• This will collect all the necessary files
for a quicker resolution to you issue.
• If you are using Teamcenter this
menu will also collect all those files
as well.
